Rating: Summary: MADONNA 5 stars, Music 5 stars, DVD 3 stars !!!!!! Review: MADOONA continues to amaze the world with her longevity & creativity!!! Outstanding concert !!! Fabulous music !!!!!! Warner Reprise Video did a terrible job (shame on you) capturing and displaying the larger than life, MADONNA Drowned World Tour 2001. (Full Screen only, NO WIDE SCREEN hi-res digital transfer). This is 2001 Warner Reprise Video !!!! The audio and the extras help make up some ground but the Video delivery is amateurish. For the die hard fans and some small screen enthusists the visuals will squeak by but the music is awesome!!!!!
Rating: Summary: One Disappointment for Footage Collectors Review: This DVD is solid concert material. Only regret for die-hard Madonna footage collectors is the exclusion of Madonna singing "You'll See." Did I miss something? Perhaps she did not end up actually singing it in Michigan but she definitely sang it live at Madison Square Garden!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This concert is amazing. I saw the HBO special, and while this is the same concert, the DVD production of it is so much better. The quality is higher and they film used gives it a feel of a concert film, not a live broadcast. The angles are different and any technical problems HBO had have now been edited and fixed. It is a well-packaged and produced piece. I am really pleased with this DVD, especially the new camera shots and angles.
Rating: Summary: Not her best show... Review: "The Drowned World Tour" wasn't Madonna's best show. Although the show was good it wasn't excellent. Her "Blond Ambition," and "Girlie Show" was her best, but she kind of tried a little too hard on this one to impress the audience. Although I must say this is a really good show, but it isn't her best. She didn't sing any of her old songs (Besides "La Isla Bonits," and "Holiday".) I mean, she could have atleast sung "Rain," "Vogue," "I'll Remember," "Take A Bow," "Bedtime Story," or "Material Girl,", and I also thought she could of done a better performance of "La Isla Bonita," "Holiday," and "What It Feels Like For A Girl (Spanish Version)."
Rating: Summary: THE MOST PERFECT SHOW BY THE MOST PERFECT ARTIST! Review: I attended the "Drowned World Tour" over the summer in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. This show confirms Madonna's title as the "Queen Of Pop!" This show is unbelievably original and fantastic. Nothing you will see in this show resembles for one second what any artist including Madonna herself has ever done in the past. Pop tours now all look the same, and people like Janet, Nsync, Baskstreet Boys etc. all try to out do each other with big stages, explosions, special affects etc. Madonna keeps her show more simple with no explosions and less huge set pieces. That is not by any means saying this show is boring however. Madonna's strong LIVE voice, dancing, staging, and just plain performing ablitly holds this show together and keeps you at the edge of your seat. Yes I do mean LIVE voice. There is 100% NOT ONE LIP SYNCHED WORD IN THIS ENTIRE SHOW. This show also shows how incridible of a stage actor Madonna is. One minute she is a punk rocker, one minute she's a geisha flying around and yes shooting people, next she's a cowgirl, then a spanish senorita, and finally a ghetto-chick with a fur coat and a "Mother-(...)" shirt present. With this show Madonna proves she is far from a mellowed mother. She is just as crazy and eye-brow raising as ever. Lots of critics complained that Madonna did not perform enough of her old hits on this tour. I am one who completely supports Madonna in not giving a solid-gold hits parade with this tour. Madonna is as inovative as ever and is still very much making an impact on people today. The 80's hits are just that... for the 80's! It is now 2001 and is time to be in the moment. If you are a little worried about the set-list and may not want to by the DVD because of it, I promise when you see this show you will be mesmorized by this woman's unbelievable creativity and energy and will quickly grow to LOVE the new material. Madonna took a risk with this show and you should to! :)
Rating: Summary: THE BEST TOUR EVER CREATED Review: Yes Madonna created that tour and it seems to be the best any artist can come up with. Very capturing and breathtaking and simply the best. Since human creations are not 100 % than the only drawback for this tour (for other people and not for the hardcore fans) is that she did few from her old hits (Like A Prayer, Papa Don't Preach, Express Yourself and even her new hits Like American Pie and You'll See , although she did You'll See on some dates but was not included here) Anither Drawback for the fans and the other people is that there is no extra features (...) like the Don't Tell me Video or Making of Documentary just small picture galary. But still a perfect item to have
Rating: Summary: Not her best tour performance..... Review: I've seen Madonna in concert several times, and I have to say DROWNED WORLD was my least favorite. The singing, dancing and set design are all well-done and fun to watch, but let's face it, Madonna is not breaking any new ground here. She's been on the music scene for the better part of 20 years, and she's done just about everything, and borrowed every artistic reference there is. Her latest "show" doesn't inspire or wow me, like she did with Blonde Ambition or the Girlie Show tours. I still enjoy her music a lot, but I thought overall the show was too much a hodgepodge of ideas thrown at a wall to see what would stick. Saying all that however, I do have to say she really showed the audience Madonna the Musician, when she sat down to play classical guitar, and beautifully at that. The whole medley with Isla Bonita was probably the best part of the show.
Rating: Summary: Stunning, It Rocks! Review: It is true that you can never beat the queen (or king) of a musical genre and Madonna proves it here with the "Drowned World Tour." It is an incredibly well made and visually stunning show. It is Madonna at her creative best and she never ceases to entertain and excite in this concert that is great showing of craftsmanship and creativity. It is very artistic, with a set to dazzle the eyes in its intricate details like all the big and small screens above the stage, the changing sets and costumes and the theatrics that are pulled off. The songs are good too. "Substitute For Love" is nice and is a neat opening, but after finishing it Madonna really starts the show. What "Drowned World" is is really a theater piece. It is always dramatic from the beginning when performers in weird suits composed of military fatigues and gas masks carry Madonna down like worshipping slaves from the column she rose in at the beginning. The performance of "Candy Perfume Girl" is especially good as Madonna shows her more heavy rock side and does a neat guitar solo. "Beautiful Stranger" is fun and alluring while "Frozen" is dramatic with the oriental fatigues and karate-like move touches, and the performance itself is strangely romantic, the costumes were great too. But one of the really cool things about this concert is how Madonna incorporates different music genres. It's not just pure pop, and as I mentioned earlier, Madonna did an electric guitar solo. "La Isla Bonita" is especially well-made with a flamenco edge where Madonna again dons a guitar, an acoustic one this time. However, when she sings her most recent pop songs, it is clear why she is still the queen. The performance of "Music" is exhilarating. This is also a well-filmed concert. The camera work sometimes has an epic feel that flows well with what's unfolding onstage. "Drowned World" is dramatic, romantic, fun, well-made and edgy. The newest acts like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera all have something to owe to Madonna, she is to them what The Doors are to punk. But with her return to the concert stage here she proves she is still one of a kind. She has a good voice too and the theatrics never get in the way of it. "Drowned World" is in the end, a blast, anyone with good edgy artistic taste will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Queen Madonna Review: Madonna's Drowned World is one of her greatest accomplishments. I was gaga when I saw her in Philly and NYC. She truly is the Queen of everything...
Rating: Summary: Awesome Tour! Worth Buying! Review: I saw this tour LIVE in Las Vegas, and it was an amazing show! This DVD comes from the show taped in Michigan for HBO. The only drawback of this show is that you miss so much of what was happening on the stage and video screens, while they were doing close-ups. But you still get a good feel of what the show was really like. I feel this tour was second only to The Blonde Ambition Tour. Highlights are: Impressive Instant, Frozen, Sky Fits Heaven, La Isla Bonita, and of course...Music! Enjoy!
