Summary: Overated, sloppy playing
Review: First off, I'm not a zakk wylde fan, but my friend got the dvd so I gave it a try. I've always thought he's overated, but damn this dvd shows he pretty much just sucks. Let's see: can't sing, can't write a decent song, plays Tony Iommi riffs sped up for his "godlike" solos, and on top of that plays like a sloppy drunk for this show.
Lets go into detail.
Singing: imagine lemmy kilmeister with a really bad cold and after he just smoked a couple packs of cigaretes and you have Zakk's singing down pat.
Songs: It's funny he makes fun of Limp bizkit so much since he's songs are nearly as retarded as Limp bizkit songs. Slow, forgetable, and boring are the best way to describe these songs.
It sounds like Zakks going for the whole pantara slow groove song but they just sound like slow muddy crap.
Solos: Oh wow! he plays pentatonic solos like pretty much
every other rock guitarist of the past 30 years, but this time there really fast! Not faster then just about any decent thrash guitarist out there, but hey he has a cool beard.

Summary: BLS & Zakk Wylde Rule!
Review: Folks, Bottom Line is your not going to find a DVD that kicks more ass then this! I can not stop watching this DVD and believe me when I say it is that damn good! First to for the band and the fans to drink the place-(Harpos) dry has to be a first for most arena or bars in this case! The extras on the DVD are great and yes sir...the Ghost of Rock's Past was kick ass! The lessons and interview alone was worth the price of this DVD! A must have for any one who dares say they are a Metal Head! Limp Bizkit...Please step aside!!!

Summary: Zakk can't sing
Review: I guess every band has loyal fans that will praise just about anything the band does. Most of the reviews of this Black Label Society DVD are an enthusiastic "two thumbs up." I've got 2 fingers up for Zakk, but they ain't thumbs.

Just kidding. This DVD's not so bad. I've always admired his skill on guitar. How can you not??? I've got all the BLS stuff, so I'm definitely a fan. But the guy can't sing. This DVD is proof of that. I was so pumped up to buy this thing when it came out, but man was I disappointed.

On the positive side, there's some cool extra stuff on the disc, including a guitar lesson in which Zakk breaks down a couple classic solos note-by-note. Pretty cool if you're a guitarist.

However, one of the DVD's extras, the interview with Zakk, shows what a drunken dope the guitarist really is. Did this guy graduate high school? Mr. BLS is no PhD. Heck, he's not even a GED. It's good for a laugh, though.

Summary: Is this a joke?!
Review: I had a lot of respect for Zakk before I saw this video, but this concert was basically a bunch of cover tunes that Zakk twisted a few licks and changed the words to (ripping off songs by Metallica, Pantera, POD, SysOD, etc.) His solos were souless... just running finger patterns and makin' noises. Just because something is hard for the lower 75% of guitar players to execute doesn't make it good music.
His Star-spangled banner is a bunch of BS and he even plays it the same basic way (as if it were a classic) on 2 different occasions. I would understand the repetition if it was incredibly demanding in the technical sense, if it had a complex sequence of sound changes or rhythm loops, or if it was in some way melodically significant like the R.R. solo in 'Over the Mountain,' but the whole point of doing an unmitigated, chaotic SSB is that it's a spontaneous expression. (I seriously doubt Hendrix sat in a hotel room practicing the Woodstock SSB to a metronome)

The guitar lesson, as fun as it was to get in personal with Zakk... the dude is unbelievably sloppy, he can't play the same thing twice, he can't play his own licks in rhythm, (at a slow speed) which is forgivable, as Zakk is obviously drunk 24/7. Seriously, I couldn't believe how sad this video was. A long cry from the artistic, soulful work of Book of Shadows. He also sings much better in the classic rock genre than when immitating Slayer. The quality of this music in comparison with Zakk's work with Ozzy and 'Book of Shadows' may give one an idea of how much influence a real producer has on the final product. If you do like this kind of neanderthal-rock, I'd have to admit that the DVD is an extremely good value. If all concert dvd's had the same format of extras (ie acoustic cuts, out-takes, private-life snipets, and guitar lessons, I would buy a lot more concert DVD's). I'm glad this review generated so much response (be it negative); the fact that the responses were voiced by BLS fans that can read(a probable rarity) makes the dispute even better. However, all claim that if I were a guitar player I would know how significant this playing is, ...well, I am a guitar player and I teach this type of playing on a daily basis. The point has nothing to do with my playing so please make no response to this statement, but that I can assure you, my opinion is based on deep understanding of music and guitar playing from a larger perspective than you might guess. My point, if you want to save some dough, you might want rent it before you buy.

Summary: This dvd is sweet!
Review: I just read a negative review about this dvd from a music fan from ohio, this guy is so dumb - don't listen to him. He claims that Zakk Wylde rips riffs off from Metallica and a whole host of other bands...that's just completely wrong, I don't know what this dude is on. Zakk serves up some of the band's best songs with extra attitude. His version of the star spangled banner is excellent contrary to mr. Ohio's critique of it. I do agree on some level that the solo is a bit repetitive, but he plays it behind his head and with his teeth; they may be simple patterns, but if you bothered to play guitar you would know how difficult it is to play those "Patterns." (when you can play 'em like Zakk, then you can run your mouth).

Summary: Overall, a good dvd
Review: I won't try to get too technical about the guitar work as I do not play and wouldn't know where to start. I do know that I was dissappointed with the Detroit show overall. It had some really good points in it, but some of it was really sloppy and you would need to be at least as drunk if not drunker than the band to enjoy it. My favorite song of the playlist is Stronger Than Death, but they butchered that one as it sounded off key really bad. The biggest dissappointment to me was the Ttokyo chapter bonus was only 2 songs! They sounded really f'n good and were WAY more entertaining to watch in those 2. The Ttokyo bonus was what I hoped the whole DVD would be like. It really showed how sloppy the Detroit show was after seeing it. All in all though, its Zakk Wylde, so its damn good. The Stillborn video was a nice bonus and I'm sure I'll watch much of this dvd over and over. So don't bash me for only giving it 3 stars, its just a little less than what I expected after reading all the reviews here.

Summary: An absolute must-have!!!!!!
Review: I'm a big fan of Zakk Wylde and his music. I have three of his cds and enjoy them very much, and plan on getting them all. I was really excited to learn he finally has a concert dvd out, and eagerly rushed out to the stores to buy it after reading all the Amazon reviews. My expectations were totally met and was i not one bit disappointed. This is a must-have for anyone into Zakk and his music. The concert is well-filmed and sounds amazing. The dvd is two-hours long and is packed with extras such as a guitar lesson that teaches you how to play three of Zakk's complex-sounding solos (i can't play guitar, but was fascinated by watching the lesson because he breaks the solo down in parts and does it slowly), a home movie of him playing one of his ballads while his little daugher sings along with him, interviews where he talks about the band and Ozzie and other stuff, Zakk playing the national anthem on his guitar at a hockey game, a music video directed by Rob Zombie from Zakk's new cd The Blessed Hellride (excellent cd!), some other concert footage, and some backstage goofing around and drunkenness that is funny to watch - you'll hear Zakk fart, and in one other scene he also sniffs his armpit and screws up his face. The man is very uninhibited and not shy on camera at all. He's hilarious! The whole dvd is well worth the money and highly recommended. It's full of good music, the guitar lesson should please the fans who play guitar, the interviews are interesting , and the silly stuff is funny. Zakk obviously put alot into this dvd and it shows. He's a true showman and he wanted to give his fans a ton of stuff to watch on the dvd. The concert is the highlight on the disc and you'll love watching it. It sounds great if you have surround sound. Hands down this is one of the best concert dvds out this year.

Summary: This is the home of the hardcore!

Summary: TWISTED, RAW METAL FROM A REAL MAN
Review: If you haven't heard of Zakk Wylde, where the hell have you been? First let me say that there is NOT a better guitar player ANYWHERE in the world today. Zakk IS the metal god of the new milenia.

This disc is REALLY worth the price you pay. There is a great concert filmed in Chicago where Zakk "tears it up" and puts on one helleva show with Black Label Society. But that is not all. You get TONS of added extras. There is a REALLY funny interview with Zakk and some of his bandmates (Ghost of Rock Past Rules!), some guitar instruction for you shred-heads out there (watch the master at work) and some cool home movie things with Zakk and his daughter. If you are a fan of heavy metal, you must own this DVD. If you have not heard of Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society, pick this up and become a part of the Society Dwelling Mother F&%$ers!!
