Rating: Summary: Too good for just one viewing Review: The musicianship is superb. The arrangements are so complex and diverse that you almost can't take it in with one viewing. Plus, as a musician, it depresses you to know you could never be that good unless you did nothing but practice you brains out from this point on (and still not get there!). Sound mix and video are very impressive. With this kind of talent, you don't need a bunch of choreography or pyrotechnics...it's all in the music. Overall, an excellent opportunity for current and new fans to experience Bela's broad horizon of musical genius.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic diversity and energy Review: The virtuosity of the assembled musicians is astounding. The time flew and we wished there was more. The freedom, diversity, inspiration that the musicians derive from each other is consistenly evident. This will appeal to a wide range of music aficionados. The intriging combination of instruments and cultures adds to the dynamics of the performance.
Rating: Summary: Quintessential Bela!! Review: There is not much to say beyond "outstanding." Not only are all of the performers excellent, the music is as well. The tunes allow each person to improvise displaying their tremendous talents within the context of very melodic pieces. The diversity of selections and performers is unbelievable. I cannot say enough about how enjoyable this show is for me and everyone I have shared it with.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS SOOOOOO SWEET Review: This DVD really did meet all of my expectations...these guys are incredible
Rating: Summary: All Hail Bela Fleck!!! Review: This is an early Christmas gift for music lovers!! This DVD concert was as great as I'd hoped it would be! Fleck and the 'tones are joined by some fantastic musicians who joined them in recording "Outbound", the most recent BF&TF CD. This DVD leaves no doubt that they are some of the most talented and versatile musicians alive today. Most of the material in this concert is from "Outbound", but that is a good thing! Would've been nice to get a performance of "Stompin' Ground", a perennial concert favorite, but that's why I have the "Live Art" double CD. Introduce yourself and your friends to the magic that is Bela Fleck and The Flecktones. Regular music fans don't even DESERVE music and playing this good!
Rating: Summary: A perfect music DVD! Review: This is how all concert DVDs should be done! I saw this configuration of the Flecktones last summer, and this DVD captures the experience perfectly. The sound is terrific, the camera work is imaginative and fluid without being intrusive, and the extras add a great deal of insight. The Flecktones are at their greatest here, along with their super guests like Paul McCandless, Andy Narrell, Paul Hansen, and the rest. If you want to see one of the finest music DVDs available today, look no further!
Rating: Summary: Flecktone Fan Review: This was a great show at the Fairfield University's Quick Center. I went to Fairfield Prep and worked at the Quick Center on several occasions for plays, musicals, and concerts. So, I can attest that the setting on stage was absolutely perfect for a band like the Flecktones. A friend managed to get me a ticket for the 6th row right side. The show consisted of actually two sets. I had a ticket for only the first set (I later heard the second set was phenomenal). Bela's idea for the "big band" truly paid off. Their music shone. However, on stage, the Flecktones didn't have their usual spontaneity or calmness. They appeared just a little reserved, primarily due to the presence of cameras. The true Flecktone fan would realize the difference between this show and any other show, let's say at the NYC's Beacon Theater. The audience had the same typicals, i.e. the dancing fans (but there were a few right there in the front row... annoying), screaming fans (sometimes at the wrong possible moment like Vic's Amazing Grace), and fans of all ages (it's great that everyone can appreciate their music). If you look on the back of the DVD cover, that's MY PICTURE right there!!!! A while back, the manager asked fans for any pics of that show. I simply emailed them mine and voila, it's there. You might not believe me (since there's no credit for me on there), but just ask the band, and they'll tell you so. So, in all, I do love this DVD, not just for being there, but it really defines what the Flecktones are as a band. They are a unique wonder, something the music scene has never before heard. I keep asking others, "Have you heard of the Flecktones?" where the response is mostly, "no." It's a shame that they're not bigger than they really are. But that's good, because MTV hasn't swapped them up (Knock on wood). When the Flecktones came over to Germany last fall, where I live, I had the chance to see them in Koln and Berlin. Downstairs inside a little jazz club called the Quasimodo, in front of 40 or less, on a stage smaller than your living room, I stood literally two feet from the band. They played for nearly three hours, new stuff, old stuff, crazy stuff. This was my dream come true (I've been to at least 15 shows). It was here that the band finally found out who that fan was "who took the Quick Center picture." That fan was me.
Rating: Summary: Great Show. Great Band Review: Two words: buy it! This is Bela at his best
Rating: Summary: As Close to Live As Possible Review: Well, having never seen Béla Fleck and the Flecktones live, this DVD has only feeded my hunger. However, until I see them, this DVD will do a fine job as a substitute. An great setlist makes this DVD of the band's immense talent quite enjoyable. Highlights: "Big Country" (my favorite), "Amazing Grace" (Victor Wooten solo", "Zona Mona," and "Hoedown." In addition to the band's incredible skill and groove live are a plethora of equally-talented musicians whose instruments range from steel pan drums, to dual penny whistles. The 5.1 Dolby Digital mix is superb, with a very "surrounding" feeling. I highly recommend this DVD for all Flecktones fans, especially those who have not seen them live, or those who want to relive the memory.
Rating: Summary: ALL THAT JAZZ Review: Yet another great show by the Flecktones and friends.... I loved the Tuvon troat singer... and everyone else... It was almost as great as going to see Bela and the guys live...If you are a Bela Fleck and the Flecktones fan... this is a must purchase for you... Finially a DVD... I hope that there are more to come!
