Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Can't ask for anything more. Great audio, great multiple camera angles with plenty of close-ups at the right times. This video really delivers the Satriani experience. A must-have.
Rating: Summary: Better than the studio recordings? Yep. Review: I've thought long and hard about reviewing this. I didn't want to sound like a gushing teen especially since I'm in my mid 30's, but this dvd sounds stunning. How so? It's the best sounding dvd in my collection, and I have well over 100. I have dvd's recorded in the much belly-hooed "THX" and this STILL sounds better. And this all being typed by someone who doesn't like "live music!" Why? Live. Hmmm, live is generally divided into two groups, those that rush through all the songs and those who play them SO EXACT to the studio versions it comes off as tedious, this is neither. There are plenty of "signature Joes" thrown in to make you go... "DAMN!" I have seen Joe myself twice, both I proclaimed as "the greatest sounding shows ever"... this dvd even tops that, largely because of perfect tracks selections spanning every year. Ok, for my ONE complaint, I would have given ANYTHING for the song "Up in the Sky" to be on this. Oh well, in a world full of let downs, pick this up!
Rating: Summary: 10 Stars! Review: This DVD has some of the best audio I have ever heard on the format. The video looks beautiful, my only complaint is that it is in fullscreen not widescreen, but whatever. If you are any type of Satriani fan or guitar player you will thourghly enjoy this DVD... it is definatly not one to be missed.
Rating: Summary: Great, but not perfect Review: This is far better than the G3 video. The visual and audio are crisp. But I am dismayed that the one thing that I hated most about the g3 video appears in the Live at SF DVD also--when Joe is doing a solo, why does the camera switch to Jeff Campitelli on drums? It would be nice if the DVD focused only on Joe...forget about watching Jeff and Stu.
Rating: Summary: Is it live or is it video? Review: Excellent video! Beautiful pictures, nice camera angles, high quality sound, two and a half hours of great tunes and solid performances! Saw Satch live last year and again on the G3 tour this summer. Watching this video comes very close to being there in person. A must have for Satch fans.
Rating: Summary: Best rock video of the 21st century Review: No, this has to be one of the best rock videos EVER made. Satriani has always been one of my favorite mutant alien rock guitarists and this video does not disappoint. No documentary fluff. No lame MTV video edits. Just pure live performance energy. If you have a good subwoofer system, about 500 watts of DTS power (100x5), and some very understanding neighbors (deaf?), set the volume control to 11 and you WILL feel like you were there. Not just sitting in the front row, but walking around with, standing in front of, standing beside, and flying over Satch. The three songs with multi-angle selection are really fantastic for those who want to play director or just watch Joe Campatelli or Stu Hamm for a while. I'd like to see more live music videos with this capability. The extreme closeups of his hands (and feet) give guitarists everywhere a chance to see how Satch performs some of his best fretboard acrobatics. This is two DVD's with two and a half hours of pure heavy guitar bliss and all for only twenty bucks. I must admit, I would have paid more. Super monster killer!
Rating: Summary: Joe Satriani rules! Review: This is the 2nd DVD that I have with Satriani playing, the first one is G3 with Vai and Johnson. This one is really great. I like the sound and the video quality. Also the backstage footage and the multi angle on those 3 songs. This is a MUST for any Satriani fan, or for any other person who loves guitar music. The Live in SF 2CD is also a must, which is the live version of the DVD in audio. There's really nothing that I dislike from here. Everything is great. I recommend it 101% to anyone. Go get it!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Amazing Review: This is a fabulous live concert performance. The video quality is exceptional, the audio is in magnificent 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound, the song selection is terrific and the performance is flawless. Thankfully the DVD contains all the songs from the CD version of the same concert and some extras as well. It is unlikely you'll soon see (closeup) unimaginably complex guitar playing of this magnitude. Joe's hands are national treasures (for God's sake Joe, hire someone to wash the dishes). If you enjoy rock guitar, buy this DVD. It doesn't get any better than this. Joe graciously pays tribute to Hendrix in the DVD's backstage segment. Jimi was a master for his time and took rock guitar to another level - inspiring modern masters like Satriani and Vai. Even Hendrix would be amazed how far the bar has been raised since his untimely death. Note: One negative side effect of viewing this DVD, if you play guitar you may find your instrument sorely neglected for a time. Don't be concerned, this is a natural consequence of watching Satriani play the impossible so effortlessly.
Rating: Summary: Joe Satriani DVD Review: If you do not already own a DVD player then it is time to buy one even if this is the only thing you ever watch on it:) This DVD is outstanding the picture quality is beyond description it so clear. The audio is even better I have been to two Satriani concerts and this DVD is exactly what you get when you go to one of his shows. This is not one of those live videos were they cut and paste the thing togeather and ends up looking like an mtv music video. This is the real deal and the backstage interview was pretty cool also. So don't hesitate buy this DVD
Rating: Summary: Quality production Review: A lot of music videos seem to have decent quality, but fall a bit shy of professional quality. This includes videos I've seen of Aerosmith, Dream Theater, and even Joe's "The Satch Tapes". "Live in San Fransisco," on the other hand, looks and sounds great! It really is almost like being at one of Joe's concerts, with even better sound (though there is no substitute for the raw energy you feel being at a real Satriani concert). The extra features on the DVD are a nice touch, too. You can choose your viewing angle on the first three songs, which is fun to play around with - it kind of feels like you are producing a live show. It's also nice to see that the people filming and editing the show realized that guitarists would be watching the DVD to see what Joe's hands are doing - for the most part, the shots are great and well placed (the camera is usually right on the guitar whenever a complicated part is being played, and it's usually on the right person when it should be). Also, there is a decent "Backstage" piece, where Joe talks about his admiration for Jimi, goes over his setup for the show, and other stuff. The song selection is good - there's a couple of other one's I'd like to see in place of some others, but there really isn't such thing as a "bad" Satriani song, so it's not worth complaining about (though I'd really love to hear Joe perform "The Forgotten pt. 2" live some time). If you are just getting into Satch's music, this is a great introduction; otherwise it's a great addition to your collection. Buy it.
