Rating: Summary: Joe Satriani is God Review: I was so excited when I first found out about this upcoming DVD. I remember running to pre-order my copy. The DVD finally arrived and it was worth the wait. Joe Satriani is one of the best guitarists (if not THE BEST) out there and this DVD proves it. Being a long time Satch fan, I was so happy to see this DVD. The video quality, which was filmed and recorded live at the Fillmore in San Francisco is just incredible. The 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound makes this a beautiful 2 hr feast for your eyes and ears. I specially love the behind the scene part of the DVD where you get to spend time with Joe. He talks about how Jimi Hendrix inspires him, his guitars, his setup, the pedals he uses, etc – That alone was worth the price of the DVD. Bottom line -- If you are a Satriani fan or if just love the guitar, buy this DVD.
Rating: Summary: It doesn't get any better than this Review: I liked Joe Satriani before I bought this DVD. I love him afterwards. I can say nothing bad about this DVD, and can't say enough good about it. Fantastic sound, video, editing, and a double disc to boot. This DVD does not include the rapid fire, quick MTV type editing that you see on a lot of releases out there these days. Each shot is held long enough to enjoy and there are plenty of close ups of Joe's hands to appease all aspiring Joe Satriani clones out there. I like this DVD so much that I went out and bought the accompanying CD as well. After watching "Live in San Francisco", you won't want to hear the studio versions of these songs ever again. Cudos to Joe's band as well. Especially Stu Hamm. He and Joe mesh so well. It's a shame he isn't touring with Joe on the current G3 tour. Do yourself a favor and get this DVD. You'll be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: San Francisco is the place to be. Review: Joe loves playing guitar. He loves playing it so much that watching him live becomes a wonderful treat. He lets his fingers surf and fly at the same time on the fretboard. Whoever thinks his playing is monotonous probably has heard a song or two of his. The visuals are amazing. The production is raw and no silly editing is done to the live show. Thats what makes it very personal. After watching Metallica's Live Binge and Purge, I was seriously dissappointed because the directors had made the entire show seem so polished with useless effects and no down to earth scenes that gave us no idea what it is like to be in the audience. But this LIVE IN S.F dvd makes you feel as if you are actually present in the concert. Good Job! I have deducted a star (which I feel sorry for) because Joe did not play some of his tunes which deserve more recognition and more live play. For example, I have never heard him play, train of angels, lights of heaven, rubina's blue sky happiness, secret prayer, morrocan sunset ect. But whatever it is, This dvd is definitely something anyone would enjoy. It speaks the universal language.....music.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable bargain, a must have concert video Review: I went to one of the two gigs that this DVD was recorded at. This 2-disc release is an *absolute* treasure for any fan of Satriani's versatility and virtuosity, as well for anyone who can appreciate and enjoy exquisite guitar music. It captures the spirit of those shows perfectly and the visual and audio quality is astounding. At just over $17, there's simply no reason not to get it.
Rating: Summary: Quality production Review: A lot of music videos seem to have decent quality, but fall a bit shy of professional quality. This includes videos I've seen of Aerosmith, Dream Theater, and even Joe's "The Satch Tapes". "Live in San Fransisco," on the other hand, looks and sounds great! It really is almost like being at one of Joe's concerts, with even better sound (though there is no substitute for the raw energy you feel being at a real Satriani concert). The extra features on the DVD are a nice touch, too. You can choose your viewing angle on the first three songs, which is fun to play around with - it kind of feels like you are producing a live show. It's also nice to see that the people filming and editing the show realized that guitarists would be watching the DVD to see what Joe's hands are doing - for the most part, the shots are great and well placed (the camera is usually right on the guitar whenever a complicated part is being played, and it's usually on the right person when it should be). Also, there is a decent "Backstage" piece, where Joe talks about his admiration for Jimi, goes over his setup for the show, and other stuff. The song selection is good - there's a couple of other one's I'd like to see in place of some others, but there really isn't such thing as a "bad" Satriani song, so it's not worth complaining about (though I'd really love to hear Joe perform "The Forgotten pt. 2" live some time). If you are just getting into Satch's music, this is a great introduction; otherwise it's a great addition to your collection. Buy it.
Rating: Summary: Oh yeah, Satriani kicks ... again. Review: This DVD is really really good. It's a double DVD with 25 songs in total. Here you can see how the man plays and if you've wondered how fast he is on the records, now you can see him play. You won't believe your eyes. I've been a fan myself for the past 3 years, own ALL the CDs and the other G3 DVD, and must say that I was like "WOW" when I saw this. My jaw dropped when I saw Joe performing on these songs. Super fast, great setup, beautiful Satriani sound, nice graphic and surroundings. Not a single complaint about this. Also, you can view 3 songs in different angles, which is pretty cool. Another nice thing the DVD has, it's the backstage footage, where Joe shows us some of his stuff, the setup he uses, and talks a little about his influence - Hendrix. The quality of the video, the audio, graphics, & song selection are perfect. Even though I'd like to have heard other songs, but that is still ok. Buy it now and start enjoying hours of Satriani...you won't be dissapointed. Also, the double CD titled "Live in SF 2001" which compliments with this DVD.
Rating: Summary: I was blown away! Review: I LOVE this dvd! The music is astounding. If you're a guitar player, you simply MUST get this dvd. You'll sit in awe and you'll learn some things. Joe Satriani is amazing.
Rating: Summary: heh Review: I like that one song he does with the guitar solo in it.
Rating: Summary: A DVD WHICH WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO PUT YOUR GUITAR DOWN! Review: Wow! This is the perfect word to describe this DVD. Joe Satriani, along with Steve Vai and others, is one of the greatest guitar players of all time. During the 80's when everything was neo-classical shred or "kiddy" keyboard music, this man came and changed the way guitar is played. This concert, captured in his hometown of San Francisco (Duh), shows you the master do his thing! I mean it makes you want to give up and quit playing (or for some anal guitar players, makes you want to play even more). The sound quality and picture quality is great and really makes you feel like you are there. If you are looking for some inspiring guitar playing (or intimidating guitar playing) this should be your first DVD of choice.
Rating: Summary: This DVD sets the standard Review: This DVD sets the standard in my opinion for concert on dvd format. This one has a lot of pluses. First of all it is a full lenght concert, two discs full of great, great music. The track list is right, it covers the long career Joe has behind him. Every album is represented here. The specials are short and interesting as they should be. Not boring at all, or stupid as they are in many cases. The production work is simply phenomenal. There's nothing wrong. Lights works are perfect, the stage is simple in its design but truly clear in its concept and really effective. Camera works are just right, just perfect. A lot of motion but a lot of nice focuses on Joe's hands... perfect balance. The audio is nothing less that 5.1. The band played a great night. Everything went out really good. This dvd sets the standard in terms of music contents, production level, specials contents, and overall balance in my opinion. Few dvds come near this one in every aspect. Just to make a clear comparison, this San Francisco concert dvd is HEAVEN where Steve Vai's dvd Live at the Astoria is HELL. It does not even come close. Abysses separate these two dvds. Sorry Steve, you have still a lot to learn from your old master Joe.
