Rating: Summary: All the different Bowies... Review: This is over three-and-a-half hours in length, and like Bowie's career itself, it's a pretty mixed bag: not in terms of quality, but of content. There's early pseudo-folk Bowie, in some rather tinny BBC recordings; pseudo-blue-eyed-soul Bowie, in some rather cheesy 70's videos; German-style electro-Bowie, ditto; daffy disco Bowie, in some rather cheesy 80's videos; thrash Bowie; mellow(er) modern Bowie; and probably a few Bowies I've missed.Highlighted throughout though is the sheer creativity that Bowie has exhibited throughout his career. He's always been exploring, always creating something new, always (um, except for that embarrassing disco stuff) going his own way and leading where most dared not follow. And it's all presented here in this video collection, right up to material from "hours...". Sometimes the videos themselves reflect their vintage, but this is a must-have for any Bowie fan. A great summary of his career, and fun to watch and hear.

Rating: Summary: Gift for a Bowie Fan Collector Review: This was a hard call( as a gift giver), considering the recipient was a highly sophisticated collector of Bowie ( et al )media and history. I was pleased with the joyful response to this DVD and would buy it again in a heart beat for any devotee of Bowie collections. From : The Bibliophile who strays into musical realms on occasion
Rating: Summary: Sets the standard. Review: With its multitude of clips, this double disc DVD is the complete look at Bowie's career from the very beginning (1972) right through to the present. How many other artists are even eligible for such a great compilation of videos? This probably sets the standard for all such DVDs to come. If you're like me, this DVD is perfect if you like David Bowie's music and want to look back at the videos you remember, or to see what videos went with those older songs that you weren't around for. The Old Grey Whistle Test clips are especially worthwhile since they've probably been rarely seen until now. Let me also say, that this Best of Bowie double disc DVD also charts the changing role of the music video: from optional extra to something that, in terms of production, often exceeds the music! (Although, in this instance, this is also due to Bowie's material after Let's Dance not being of as high quality.) Needless to say, the fact that I'd rather watch the earlier material shows that music remains more important. Alas, the recording industry has long since become a victim of its own perfect marketing tool to gain anything from this. End rant. Now, buy and enjoy...
Rating: Summary: Bowie still as puzzling as ever Review: Wow, what a collection. When I first beheld this thing, I thought it was too good to be true. Are these all videos? And is Bowie in every one? Yes, yes and more yes. This collection is really chockfull. And the best part is that most of his 90's output is here. It's the stuff that MTV or VH1 would never play, though they claim the mantle of being the most "influential" music medium going. Go figure that one out. There is indeed a cheese factor with the 80's stuff and that is a shame (though "Time Will Crawl", not a bad song at all, has some great choreography, not to mention a cameo by Pete Frampton). It's hard to tell if it is the video director's fault or Mr. Bowie himself. The hair do in "Modern Love" defies description and is a sad reminder of how low Bowie had sunk at the time. But thankfully, Bowie has been jumping around enough to keep us all happy. The early Ziggy Stardust videos are amazing in their crispness, not to mention the band's performance. Fans of Mick Ronson will heave a great big sigh here. And the glam rock outfits are simply outrageous. Who needs Gary Glitter, Sweet and even T. Rex when you have the classic Bowie doing "Starman" on Top of the Pops. The clip of "Life on Mars", directed by famed photographer Mick Rock, is downright spellbinding. Has there ever been a more effeminate rock n roll figure? Moving on, "Young Americans" is almost comical, Bowie's voice being almost gone and him doing this bizarre two step. "Boys Keep Swinging" is a highpoint, Bowie assuming several character's male and female. Is that a bit of Iggy Pop in Bowie's boy-ish lead singer? Despite the cheese of the 80's there is a happy ending by the time of "Outside" (some would argue "Black Tie, White Noise") and onward. The videos from "Hours" are quite striking. Bowie defiantly looking his age and shunning all lip-sync pretense. What a treat to have these clips. It's a shame they didn't delay the release to include the "Heathen" videos (if any), because that is surely Bowie's best in many a moon. It should be noted that most of the videos from the 90's are pretty drastic remixes of the album versions. Another bonus, dare I say.
Rating: Summary: worth every single penny! Review: wow. what surprised me about this collection was how GOOD the quality of the videos were. i expected really grainy 1960's footage, but all of the music videos were SO CLEAR!!! so will people stop complaining about the fact this dvd lacks the Changes music video? if you've ever even seen Changes, you know you're not missing out on a whole lot. plus, that elusive 20 minute blue jean promo video is hidden as an easter egg in here. before this dvd came out, that video was so rare it was virtually nonexistent. This is a FABULOUS collection of bowie. you're getting 47 of bowie's best music videos... plus easter eggs! it's definetely worth every penny.
