Rating: Summary: Cher & Vegas -- a match made in Heaven Review: I was seriously tempted to see Cher when she was touring last summer. She is, after all, the essence of showbiz camp, and from everything I'd read, the show sounded like a genuine extravaganza. (I'm also a fan of Cyndi Lauper, who was Cher's opening act on this tour). So it might have been fun. But then I saw those prices...well, forget it. When HBO announced that they'd be broadcasting it, I thought that might be a reasonable alternative to paying $75.00 to seeing what at best sounded like a guilty, kitschy pleasure. (Of course, I'd miss seeing Cyndi, but how long would she have been allowed to play anyway, 20 minutes? a half hour?)Turns out I was right, the concert video is more than enough. It's fun. It IS something of an extravaganza with its Cirque du Soleil trappings (She refers to it as "Cher du Soleil" at one point), but I'm just as glad that I didn't shell out for the actual event. Cher, who, according to legend, was furious with Sonny for originally dragging her to Vegas, seems remarkably at home there. She and her team have crafted the ultimate garish spectacle and it's oddly appropriate that it be taped in the capital city of garish spectacles. For what it is, it's loads of fun. Cher is what she is, an entertainer first and foremost. She's not a great singer, by any means, and she leaves the dancing up to others, BUT she's got pizzazz and star quality (with a leavening touch of self-deprecating humor). This is not a bad way to spend a couple of hours, but I'm just as glad to do so in the comfort of my own living room.

Rating: Summary: NOTHING Comes Close... Review: Listening to Chers Greatest Hits album has been one of the most positive musical experiences of my lifetime. All eighteen years of it that is. Until then, all I knew and loved of Cher was "Believe", "Walking In Memphis" and the inimtable duet with Meat Loaf on "Dead Ringer For Love". And of course, "Mask" which, even as a kid sparked a truly unforgettable performance. With the "Greatest Hits" album I was hooked. Every single song is worthy of standing as the story of your wildest, most love filled lifetime. Its something so special, and pulsating, that only Cher can deliver. I would never have expected this DVD to exceed this captivation and admiration, because the album alone is something so great. However, in a few simple words, "The DVD blows me away!" The first thing you notice is the wonderfully designed, 3D hologram sleeve which rocks before you even open the box! (Unlike my other DVDs the box is solid, secure and the disc dosent float about). Recorded Live In Las Vegas during the "Believe" World Tour and in front of one of the most crowd filled arenas I have ever seen, Cher takes to stage with the classic cover of "I Still Havent Found What Im Looking For". From here there is no stopping the proceeding nineteen classic songs. One of my personal favourites is "I Found Someone", during which Cher runs, skips and power walks accross the huge stage like a kid in a playground - only Chers way! "After All" a stunning, emotional duet. "Walking In Memphis" Cher performs to the backdrop of the video where she plays Elvis. "The Shoop Shoop Song", "Strong Enough", "If I Could Turn Back Time" are exceptionally stunning. All her classics are powered up even more, and that voice has never sounded so great. The atmosphere is incrediable. From young kids to men and women who remember the "Sonny and Cher Show". And if you dont, the large screen background plays some of her most memroable moments with Sonny. Not to mention extended clips of Chers award winning movie performances. Afer which you are left in even more awe at the diversity and apparently endless talents of this superstar. The costumes are outrageous but loveable. Flamenco dancers, disco dancers, tribal dancers all take to the stage in what may often seem like a carnival extravenganza. The mixture of traditional performace and state of the art stage performance blends magically. I have never seen Cher, or anyone else for that matter, look quite so stunning. The often lengthy 'stage dancing' interludes are justifiable for Chers so many stunning transformation. Extra features: All the on screen footage used on stage. Photo gallery, biography and costume designs. The picture quality is the best I have witnessed, as too is the sound. I can not reccommend this DVD enough. If I only owned one, Id make it this (and Meat Loaf live if they ever release one!) My only faults (and this is nothing really..) but it would have been nice if songs like "Love Hurts", "Love And Understanding" were included. Upbeat dance and stadium rock. Its here! (Just look out for "If I Could Turn Back Time" at the end. Chers at home and her voice thunders beautifully. WOW!
Rating: Summary: 100% Entertainment! Review: If you enjoy Cher then this is a must see! I wish there was a soundtrack for this concert...it is Cher at her absolute best. Not only is the music outstanding, but the visual effects are great. I enjoyed every minute of this concert.
Rating: Summary: Cher finally giving us our money's worth Review: I seen Cher twice live in Las Veags in 1982.It was the worst show I ever saw,and I went a second time because I got the tickets free. She was the laziest performer I ever seen in my life. She sounded great, but she only sang a half a second between ten dress changes, and her voice was recorded while her dancers were on stage doing all the work. It was great to see Cher get back to buisness on this show and give us our moneys worth. I always loved Cher, and think her voice is one of a kind. To think she has the number one song to close out the Century with "Beleive," what a talent. They said when the world ends, there will still be Rats,Segals, and Cher. This Video is fantastic, and Cher sings all her hits, like "Half Breed,Dark Lady"and alot of her songs from the 80's. This Video is a tresure, and a must buy for a fan of Cher's.Also, congradulations Cher on you first grammy,I'm sure there will be many more, and I love Rosie's joke. That Cher is so old,she calls everyone Sonny now.
