Rating: Summary: Pieces of Taylor Review: What an amazing concert DVD. I have 1 problem. I've been through 2 different copies of this DVD and the bonus material won't play on my DVD player. The concert is fine but the other stuff screams and gets static-y. No other DVD of mine does that. Besides that, this is a keeper as soon as I get a copy that works. The 2 versions I bought were from Best Buy, maybe that has something to do with it. Any advice please feel free to contact me or to share similar stories.
Rating: Summary: Sweet Baby James! Review: I had The Doors, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and James Taylors DVD's in my hands and had to make a choice - which one to buy? I was getting tired of listening to The Moody Blues, Hall of Fame DVD (buy this one it is a masterpiece!) and needed something fresh to listen to on my new Sony HOme Theater System. James Taylor- Live at the Beacon was my choice, a wise choice indeed. The audio is near perfect, you can hear every snap of James' acoustic guitar and his voice was pleasant and strong in the mix. Using DTS, I could not hear much output from the rear speakers but it still sounded fantastic from the Center/Fronts. If you like James Taylor you will satisfied with this great sounding and looking DVD.
Rating: Summary: Perfect Video, Nearly Perfect Audio Review: An excellent concert and stunning video quality. The bass guitar and kick drum are too prominent in the mix, and I achieve a perfectly balanced sound by reducing woofer levels by 2.5dB. If you do not have truly full range speakers, or a subwoofer, and your speakers need a more bassy sound, then you needn't worry. I especially enjoy "Steamroller Blues" and it's dynamics. I watch it every few weeks and still thoroughly enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: If you like James - a must own! Review: If you have ever even remotely liked James Taylor, this is a must have for your collection. The clarity of the dvd format as well as the Dolby digital audio places you right inside the Beacon Theatre -- a small venue in NYC where James gives it his all to please the crowd. He mixes old tunes with some newer stuff -- and the version of "Mexico" is incredible. His back up singers and band are just as good as he is. I found that I put this dvd on when company is over just for the audio; and that I watch it over and over -- just to relax. Don't think about this one --- at twenty bucks -- buy it!!
Rating: Summary: Best DVD Concert I have seen and heard! Review: My title says it all. If you are fan of JT at all you will enjoy this great DVD. Sound is great, even in 5.1! Better than the Fleetwood Mac DVD, which is good, and even better than the Eagles DVD.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful in all respects Review: What an amazing recording! I have seen a number of DVD concerts and this is probably the best! It is beautifully recorded. The sound is great and the clarity on the video is fantastic. No complaints except that James stops and talks.
Rating: Summary: If you like J.T. you NEED this DVD Review: The flawless audio production, and stunning visual clarity & color make this DVD exceptional. There are many JT favorites here, but the biggest bonuses are some exceptional songs that most people haven't heard. Combine this with some well-placed storytelling and this is one of the best bet DVD purchases for your DVD collection.
Rating: Summary: A master at his best! Review: After I got my DVD player, this was one of the first discs I had on my Wish List. I saw this concert when it aired during PBS's telethon. You could tell by the quality of the performance that this one was going to work it's way to video eventually. JT has also done a 'By Request' on A&E, and that one was great too. So I finally buy the disc and pop it in...James Taylor's voice is so gentle, yet he can turn it up and belt it out too. This concert covers most of his classics, and some of his future classics too. Sweet Baby James, however, is surprisingly absent. I'm just splitting hairs here... The beauty of JT's music is in its 'veiled' simplicity. Listening to it is soothing, and you get a picture of this lone man sitting in a booth with his guitar, gently strumming and singing. When you see it live, you come to understand that this is the feeling he wants to put across, but make no mistake, this man and his band work HARD to make music that's this easy to listen to. Pretty straightforward as concert vids go. He tears through a set of 20+ songs with a few extras included on the disc, including videos and an interview. But, the sound and the video are great! You really get a feeling like you're in the best seat in the house, and that he's playing just for you. Simply awesome. Video is in fullscreen, no widescreen because this one was recorded for TV. A great addition to the casual listener's collection, but a must-have for the die-hards. Roll on, Steamroller!!
Rating: Summary: JTat his best Review: I found this DVD to be a wonderfully nostalgic and technically competent listening experience.JT gives his normal bashful and understated performance with a few interesting, if not challenging, titbits as in Belfast to Boston, a haunting overview of the carnage of religious intolerance and its inevitable consequences.Although a 'must buy' for JTphiles I tend to agree with a previous critic who comments on the lack of direct,close-up shots of JT and particularly his playing action. Those of us who play the guitar would dearly love to see more of his finger action and chord selection. But hey!this still remains a great DVD which I for one will listen to time and again, and again, and again, and again........
Rating: Summary: JT stands for Just Terrific Review: Simply put, this DVD is one of the top 5 concert DVD's released to date. Sound quality can't be beat. Voices and high notes are crystal clear, the bass rocks. Likewise, the image quality and saturation is excellent. Some of the songs, "Steam Roller" for instance, is done in a new and refresing style. This disc has all his major hits along with some of some of his more obsquere songs mixed with some of the songs off "Hourglass." If you are anything from a casual fan upward, this DVD is a must buy. If I had to voice one complaint, it would be the audiance. What a group of reserved stuff shirts. Some of the songs he performed, I could hardly sit still and I am 54. Very few stood and grooved with JT. I have had two groups of people in my home theater to watch this concert and we were all up dancing, claping and singing along. I have been to see James Taylor in concert and he got almost everyone up at it to.
