Rating: Summary: Turn off the video, listen to the music... Review: Indeed a musical gem. However the video is horrible. Whoever directed this must have thought they were at a football match or a speed-metal concert - not a single shot lasts more than 10 seconds... I ended up turning the projector off, reveling in the music. Somewhat expensive for a 'cd' though...
Rating: Summary: Still the same smooth voice of 30 years ago.. Review: This is the best live perfomance I have ever seen. Simply amazing. The background vocals were right on, and the cello on "fire and rain" was stunningly beautiful (I had tears in my eyes at the end of that song). The sound quality was good, the playing was good, and of course, James Taylor was good (and funny between songs). Buy this DVD if you are a fan of JT, or of any good quality music.
Rating: Summary: The FIRST concert DVD you should buy...... Review: Okay - you've got a new DVD system, with surround sound.Okay - you like music - especially music that shows off your new system. Okay - hit the buy this now button and wait five days for the absolutely BEST musical concert DVD on the market today. James Taylor sings all his hits in crystal clear Dolby Digital 5.1, and the audio engineering on this DVD is SUPERB. If you want to show off a system's surround capabilities - this IS the DVD to do so. It makes you feel like you're sitting in the fourth row, center for this Beacon Theater concert, and everything is working perfectly. The artist, his backup singers, the band, and the audience all participating like this was THE concert of their lives. And I bet you'll find yourself standing up and applauding your television screen when Track 11 - Shower the People - is finished. James Taylor allows legendary backup singer Arnold McCuller to shine with his overlay during the last third of the song, and the crowd goes absolutely WILD at the talent of this man who has made a career of singing behind the scenes. Is this DVD worth spending under $20 on? Absolutely. You'll watch it again and again....and AGAIN!
Rating: Summary: BUY IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I just wanna let anyone who loves Live Concerts to Buy this DVD, this is by far the best I've heard of James Taylor.
Rating: Summary: Great show Review: Watching James play live here is like watching a kid at Christmas time. He is so obviously excited to be there and is a great example of what "performance" is all about. Great musicians, great mix. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Great music and a great evening! Review: James Taylor is such a brilliant songwriter, singer and performer, and he is one one of the few artists who has remained on top year after year. I am not speaking about the charts and selling the most records, but about performance. Listen (and look) to this excellent performance! All the classic songs are here, some of them sounding even better than on the original recordings. The musicians are in good mood and totally inspired by James and his songs. The perfect DVD when you need inspiration! (...)
Rating: Summary: Great moments you can play anytime Review: If you're reading this, you're obviously a James Taylor fan. Simply stated, you will enjoy this concert immensely. I was interested by the review below complaining about the MTV short camera bursts and the lack of long shots of JT. While that's true, I didn't find it bothersome in the least. At a concert, I like to look around at the various singers and musicians, and this approach fits that style: maybe it was intentional? The selection of songs was great, the collection of JT veteran musicians and singers outstanding, and the whole night at the Beacon was magic. The only disappointment was the first song, "You Can Close Your Eyes," which was great but too short. Taylor's brief comments show a good sense of humor, and he shows that he is human when a "young heckler in training" seems to get under his skin. The sound is remarkable, and this is a concert DVD you will listen to often. This concert, along with "Hell Freezes Over" and John Fogarty's "Premonition" DVD are the best I've seen and heard. Buy and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Man Oh Man!! Review: If you're one of the milllions of people who think James Taylor is all about "Fire & Rain" you should probably buy his greatest hits, 'cause this one ain't for you. BUT (and that's a very strong but) If you want to see an artist who is versitle, intelligent funny and just damn good, then you need to get this DVD. Every track in this concert is solid, from the classics like "Mexico" & "Steamroller Blues" To the new tracks like "Jump Up Behind Me" and "Ananas". Let me tell you.. There is not a dull moment during this concert, and I enjoy it every time I watch. It's a must have for any music lover. And for the masses whom I addressed earlier, "Fire & Rain" is there too and it's as good as ever.
Rating: Summary: Songwriters Songwriter Review: James Taylor' A guitar' that's all this man needs to make an unforgettable evening. If he also has a band of top musicians, and a great audience, it just can't go wrong. This was the first music DVD that I bought and it is still on the TOP3 list, maybe even TOP1. The songs are great, the audience is great, the performances is great- everything is great. 25 songs! You'll love it. Even if you don't love it, it will be your best dvd to show your friends when you wanna brag about your DVD player. Carlos Vega, JT's drummer died just before this show, but his replacement is almost as good as the fantastic Mr. Vega. Other musicians: Tower of Power's trumpet player, Louis Conte on percussion, David Lasley on background vocals and many, many more. Viktor
Rating: Summary: Shivers down my spine Review: There's something magical about James Taylor's songs. When my daughter was a just a couple of days old, she would sit on my lap while mommy's takin'a nap and we'd listen to this DVD, and guess what? We both loved it! The ballads are our favorites, but songs like "Ananas" and "Everyday" are wonderfully cheerfull songs. Imagine being around as long as James Taylor and stilling being able to send shivers up people's spines. Thanks JT !
