These videos to me are almost like art. They are creative, imaginative, and at the same time whimsical. Plus visually there is so much to absorb that viewing it once is not enough. And sometimes you just have to ask yourself "how'd he do that"? The dvd also includes a 52 page book with drawings photographs and interviews. This would be great for fans of any of these groups who don't have their videos on DVD.
Rating: Summary: yay Review: This DVD is amazing...its really trippy and imaginative
Rating: Summary: Excellent...if it weren't for the glitch... Review: This dvd is awesome. If you're reading these reviews it's quite obvious that you know the genius of Gondry. however an annoying fact (and the reason for me docking two stars) is some of the dvd's were released glitchy, so that you can't toggle the proper menu; you have to sit through all the videos on the dvd to get through them all. Wonderful the first time around. Infinitely annoying subsequent times.

Rating: Summary: Gondry, what have you done? Review: When I heard that Michel Gondry is releasing a DVD collection, I bought it without hesitation. I only bought the Gondry collection, not the entire set, because as impressive Chris Cunningham's & Spike Jonze's works are, each director in his own right, Michel Gondry is simply in a league- no, sorry- pantheon of his own. Really, I could spend my 1,000 word limitation on 1,000 superlatives & still not reach one millionth of this genius that puts so much more than his utmost emotion & knowledge into each of his videos. Watching his videos take me back to 1997, the year I discovered MTV, when all of those magnificent videos were playing, thinking to myself: "Bloody hell, there are so many talented video directors out there". Only afterwards I was amazed to find out that all of these videos were in fact directed by the same man: Michel Gondry. If that's not enough, Gondry videos have become hallmarks to me: If a band worked with Gondry, they must be good. At this point you're probably asking yourself "So where's the problem? Why the three star rating?". Hold on, I'm getting to that. I've never been able to understand people who take a few stars from their rating because they were disappointed with the bonus features: For me the emphasis is on the word "bonus", & the central attraction (in our case, the videos) is the factor responsible for the rating. Unfortunately, now I understand those people pretty well, as some of the bonus features are so repellent, so vile & most of all so unGondryesque, that they almost make me regret buying the DVD. Those who've watched it know what I mean, & I won't disclose their content for those who haven't in case they are eating right now. Let's just say that Gondry seems to be quite happy wallowing in a mire so deep & so dirty that was NEVER implied in ANY of his transcendent videos. This is Gondry's own Mister Hyde coming out to play, & the result is simply atrocious. Let alone that the special features in question are retch-inducing, they are LITERALLY a waste of space: A space that could've been used for a great bunch of commercials & videos that were left out (Radiohead's brilliant "Knives Out" was already mentioned). I've never in my life imagined that Gondry will lose his prestige in my eyes, & the non-existent chance of that happening could've only come from an uninspired video, but surely not this. Sadly, it happened, & the only logical explanation for this ignominy is that an evil alien from planet Vulgaria has taken control over Michel's body & soul. Some of you reading this could think that I lack a sense of humour or being overly sensitive, but I don't care. The truth must be told, & the truth is that this is not what Gondry has lived up to for all of these years; This is not him. What about the other special features, you ask? They're OK. Nothing more, nothing less. Most of the commercials are on the same high level as the videos only much shorter, while the rest of the bonuses are fine, slightly amusing even, but can not make up for the disgrace of the ones I referred to. The booklet is pretty nice too, but repeats some part of the biography, so things even out once again. This makes rating the DVD really difficult, because the uncouth parts take it way below zero stars, whilst the videos deserve far above five stars. I settled down on three stars then, even though there is no real possible way to rate this because the videos should be measured separately. Michel, I know that there isn't a great chance of you reading this, but if you are please deny all connection to those dishonours & get back to being the paragon of music video directors ASAP, because these special features simply put you to shame. If you don't do it for me, for your fans, or for the art of combining music & vision, at least do it for yourself because this is not how we want to remember you. Bottom line: Should you buy this or not? You MUST buy it for the videos, but you MUST avoid the parts I mentioned. Rating this DVD is hard, yes...
