Rating: Summary: Derek is awesome! Review: Alrighty, folks, anyone dissing on Derek Trucks does not have the first inkling about real music and is probably just some wasted out hippie from the 70s who can't get over the fact that times change. Yeah, Dickey is incredible, and I've actually seen him more times than the Allmans, but Derek will play his, and Warren's, socks off any day of the week!!! Get this DVD, it will change the way you look at slide guitar and jam music.
Rating: Summary: Avoid if you have dignity Review: Without Dickey Betts, this is nothing more than a hack bar band trying to sponge off the legend created by Dickey & Duane. Avoid this bogus junk at all costs & stick with the real "Brothers".
Rating: Summary: They get better and better Review: This DVD has really taken me by suprise. With the return of Warren Haynes I expected magic however I would not have expected that this band seems to be performing at levels not seen since the 70's. My biggest reservation was the inclution yet again of Derek Trucks. This was because of the peakin at the Beakin CD which was a very lack luster performance. I'm now sure this is a very unfair observation as Trucks Jnr plays some of the most stagering solo's ever to be filmed for DVD, even giving Mr Haynes a run for his money. (I think some of Derek Trucks CD's will be finding their way into my collection.) With the inclustion once again of Otel Burbridge on Bass and offcourse the perenial Trucks, Jaimo, Quinones and Mr Allman himself this DVD is worth every cent. Do not think the 5 star rating is a hollow one from a rabid Fan. This is Rock at it's finest. Art.
Rating: Summary: Now This Is More Like It... Review: I was stunned and disappointed by the band's lackluster and uninspired performance on the 2000 "Peakin' At The Beacon" CD, and at the time attributed it to the departure of Warren Haynes and the arrival of Derek Trucks. Three years later and Warren's back, Derek's still around, and this edition of the band does indeed smoke. You'll find many not-so-thinly veiled references in the interview segments to the less-than-friendly split with Dickey Betts and the revitalized, "best since the Duane days" nature of the band since his departure. It's been an up and down road for the ABB but I think that true fans have stuck around regardless of the group squabbles and occasionally sub-standard albums...all that matters in the present is that this is one of the finest bands in the history of good old AMERICAN rock & roll, they all seem to be inspired and happy in each other's company, they're giving the fans their money's worth (and more), and how are you gonna argue with that? Stop reading the reviews and buy it already...also pick up Gov't Mule's latest "Deepest End" to see Warren jamming with Jack Casady on "Voodoo Chile" on the DVD portion. Gregg may be clean and sober and singing on key, but Warren has been the "blood, sweat and tears" of ABB for YEARS.
Rating: Summary: Super - You will need about 3 hours!! Review: If you have ever enjoyed the ABB - Purchase this DVD. Play the encore, One Way Out, FIRST. It is the first title on disk two. Be sure to tune your surround sound and turn up the volume. Then play all of disk one. You will need about 3 hours time. ENJOY!!
Rating: Summary: Unbelieveable Review: I have seen ABB several times from an exceptional theater, with knockout accoustics, to the Brevard County Fair in Cocoa, Florida. (One of the very few general admission venues, allowing one to get within feet of the stage. Best of all NO idiots screaming "DOWN IN FRONT") I live very close to Dicky Betts and of course felt badly that he got the boot from the band. But I have seen .........Live At The Beacon on Direct TV. Not bragging, but I have an awesome surround sound system. I have to say that this concert is by far one of the top five of ANY I have seen in 30 years!!! Got to say, in all honesty, that the addition of Derek Trucks has been a pure stroke of genius. I was very skeptical of whom ever the replacement for Dicky would be. This dude plays the axe without parallel. Best of all, he really brings a fresh touch to the band. As I have seen in other reviews, The Allman Brothers Band is now, perhaps, at the very peak of their career. Have seen some pretty raunchy shows, but damn these guys definately have it goin on!!! I have been limited to the concerts I can see due to an accident a few years ago. So, seeing the DVD was as close to being there as I could possibly hope to be. To ANY ABB fan, no matter how great their love for the music/ and the personalities contained therein, this is a MUST have DVD. Well worth the price. The boys surely have a new lease on life and it shows. GET IT!!!! Sure Santa would be most pleased to get it for you, if y'all ask real nice like! Have a Happy Holiday and I hope that you will take the chance on it!!!! Best wishes..........Hightide2000
Rating: Summary: Allman Brothers band V.2003----- better than ever! Review: Absolutely fabulous. The interviews on the second DVD provide personal insights and histories, and much rich commentary on the musicianship. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Classic Beacon Preformance! Review: I have been to the Beacon for several March shows, and this is one of the best in years. (None of them were bad!) If you have never had a chance to hit NYC to see the brothers at the beacon this is a must buy! See you in March!
Rating: Summary: Freakin' at the Beacon Review: Sorry about that title, I couldn't think of anything clever. Obviously, by now you don't need me to tell you to run out and buy this DVD, so instead, I'll address two complaints I read in the other reviews. One reviewer, the Ted Nugent fan, mentions there are only two songs on disk two. Disk two is a special features disk, with over an hour of interviews and pictures. Consider the two songs a bonus, there are 20 songs, over two hours of music on disk one, for cryin' out loud. Another reviewer complains that Derek Trucks should smile and move around more. Duane Allman used to say he would be perfectly happy if fans at ABB shows closed their eyes and just listened to the music. Miles Davis sometimes soloed with his back to the audience! The ABB are musicians, not rock stars, I suggest this reviewer check out the aforementioned Ted Nugent DVD, or Kiss or something. My only complaint is that the DVD doesn't include "Layla", which was the encore when they played here in Chicago last July. It was brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Very Good, but ... Review: ... the setlist presented is incredible. Sure there are a few things that could've been on there, but you can't please everybody. That said, my biggest complaint is the sound. I've played it in 5.1 and stereo. Took it to a buddy's house who is hi-fi nut and same result. The mixing seems a little muddied. This might not sound like a big deal to many people, but this was filmed and recorded by the same guys who did Widespread Panic's "Live at the backyard" released earlier this year. What a difference in the audio. All said in done, it's no reason not to buy this. To each his own, eh?
