Rating: Summary: gilmour Review: as always Dave has shown us his talent again. very good piece of work, comprable to his first solo release.Having worked with Floyd from the early 70's thru the wall tour ,i spent many hours listening to shows, sound checks and rehearsals and they are the ultimate professional band. They worked very hard to achieve what they have and Dave is a big part of it.He insists they do it right or dont do it at all.Roger is a literary genius and could easliy have been a writer. However arent we pleased he chose the path he did? will they ever play together again? You can bet on it,although it wont be straight away.Honestly now with Rick on keyboards and Nick on drums, they are thee best there is.How many bands can you name that sound just as good live as in the studio?
Rating: Summary: A Breath of Fresh DVD Air Review: Now this is what a music DVD should be like... great performances, great sound and great extras.Gilmour reworks some Pink Floyd classics to marvelous effect, including two different performances of "Comfortably Numb", both of which are excellent. I was caught off guard with my first listen to "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" as it is mostly a solo performance by Gilmour and his Taylor acoustic guitar, sounding more raw and immediate than the Floyd version... It quickly grew on me, though, and now I love the performance. Bonus features on the disc include "Spare Digits", a collection of close-ups of Gilmour's hands as he plays the guitar solos from a number of the songs. Also included are 3 bonus song performances, including a 1992 blues version of "I Put a Spell on You" with Mica Paris and Jools Holland. This DVD will definitely see regular rotation in my player.
Rating: Summary: Long Live Gilmour Review: Gilmour gives the world something special, every time he plays live. Every person who loves Rock should have this DVD. I was lucky enough to see the show live in London. The only way that you can improve on the DVD, and Dave's music is by playing on top of Table mountain in Cape Town.
Rating: Summary: David Gilmour in Concert Review: This is the absolute best DVD i have ever purchased. Gilmour seems alive and excited in playing. After seeing the Roger Waters DVD, this one puts it to shame.....Gilmour is as great as ever and sounds amazing....highly reccomend and I find my self watching this DVD every day....
Rating: Summary: the Pink Floyd's Wizart... Review: I have no doubts about it.... The Pink Floyd would not be the Pink Floyd as we know, without the skills of this Guy. David shows strong competence and imagination on this DVD. I am too impressed with the happy integration of the acustic instruments (guitars, bass and cello - Gilmour and Caroline have outstanding performances). High Hopes and Fat Old Sun are the high points of this work. You can not miss it.
Rating: Summary: Not As Much As I Would Expect of David Gilmour... Review: I was the biggest Pink Floyd Fan in the 1970s and 1980s. Admittedly, I think the Floyd dropped on my greatness scale when Roger Waters left the band (in spite of no longer having to put up with his ego). Anyway, this DVD is a mostly acoustic collection of what David Gilmour likes--not exactly what his fans would've selected for a concert DVD. After watching this one, I am even more convinced that Dave is an impressively melodic and creative electic guitarist/soloist. However, you'll see that he is pretty weak (bland) overall on his acoustic playing (sorry!). The rather eclectic group of musicians does OK, but it doesn't look like they mix well. For the Pink Floyd fan, given the choice between this DVD and Roger Waters' "In The Flesh," I would hands down go with Roger's show....it just has a better ensemble of musicians, the sound quality is far better, the video shots are far better, and the music is (dare I say) better than even Pink Floyd. So, David Gilmour is one heck of a guitarist overall, but it truly doesn't show on this DVD. So, he gets a B-minus: 3 of 5 stars. Maybe next time!
Rating: Summary: THIS IS IT!!!... Review: I used to think Pink Floyd and Waters were synonimous. Maybe Dave Gilmour was only the super-excellent Roger Water's guitar player. Well...I'm glad I'm proven wrong!!!. After the "IN THE FLESH" DVD I tought no one else could really express, other than REG, what we -the fans- always knew about Pink Floyd. Clearly and without any pyrotechnia. If you watch this DVD is like rediscovering Pink Floyd and realizing that it is true that Pink Floyd was not about Roger Waters but about the all four fab they were. Defintely like saying The Beatles was McCartney or Lennon. I personally can not immagine The Beatles without Harrison, or Ringo. Of course is unthinkable without the other two. But Gilmour not only shows his virtuosity and his roots, but his humbleness ans human simplicity. He's got the money so he's got the band. (I think all of the performers in this show are virtuosos on their own). I very much appreciate the Pressence of Rick Whright and largely of Micheal Kamen, but as soon as you listen to the whole Ensemble you just say THANK YOU MYSELF FOR BUYING THIS DVD AND MY 5.1 SURROUND!!!!!This is as raw as it can get. Actually you don't even have to be a fan or to know who Pink Floyd are, to enjoy this DVD. Just watch it in a surround enviroment and it will turn into one of the closest to you and most paramount performances you ever heard.
Rating: Summary: Gilmour still has it!!!!!!!!!! Review: Being the world's number one David Gilmour fan, my only complaint about this DVD was there wasn't enough on it! The price of this DVD is more than worth it just to hear him sing a Shakespearean sonnet...and show off a bit of his French as well. Although the years are showing, I think he might have ONE MORE PINK FLOYD TOUR in him...I hope! Great DVD, his version of Elvis' "Don't" is spectacular!
Rating: Summary: It's cool! Review: I have it, and it's cool, but what I want to say is: "HOW CAN YOU SAY <PINK FLOYD UNPLUGGED SOUNDS SO COOL>??? As the band said, 'David Gilmour' doesn't mean 'Pink Floyd'! Is the same as 'John Lennon' or 'Paul McCartney' doesn't mean 'The Beatles'! Sincerely, to say that David Gilmour is the same as Pink Floyd, is not to be a true fan, is to be a stupid. Thanx. P.D. I don't even matter if you reply this message with insults to me, I won't check this thread again.
