Rating: Summary: The Best Concert DVD There Is Review: this DVD is amazing. Opeth is the most incredible death metal band in the world. the perfect combination of beauty and brutality. the picture quality is great. almost everyone ive showed this to has asked me if its a music video or a live concert. the sound quality is amazing as well. but its the talent that matters. they play the songs so perfectly adding a simple twist here and there. ive never seen an Opeth show but after seeing this DVD its my mission in life! the direction and editing is usually a complaint with me on these live DVDs, but on here its great. great shots and they show the solos and concentrate on whats important and what the fans want to see throughout the songs. and FINALLY a concert DVD that actually shows the damn drummer! without stupid closeups on his feet for 2o minutes. i love the look of this DVD. the lights and camera work and editing just make it all the more intense. a lot of great shots.
theres 2 sets in this concert. the first is the entire Damnation album with Harvest from Blackwater Park stuck in at the end. the second set is a heavier set with tracks from Deliverance and Blackwater Park. i have only 2 small complaints about this DVD. number one being the amount of time between songs. too much talking. i understand that they have to tune, but Mikael needs to hurry his ass up a little bit haha. but hey, thats what the >>| button is for. the other complaint is that they only play songs from Damnation, Deliverance, and Blackwater Park. all amazing albums but what about Still Life, My Arms Your Hearse, Morningrise, and Orchid? maybe if they didnt play every song from Damnation and didnt talk so much they couldve thrown some older stuff on there. or maybe a retrospective third set. the fans wouldnt mind. the Making of Damnation/Deliverance documentary is interesting too. i learned a lot about Opeth i didnt know before. i reccomend this DVD for anyone. i got my dad a copy because he loves Damnation. incredibly talented musicians. my favorite songs on here are Leper Affinity (the most amazing Opeth song ever), Windowpane, Masters Apprentices, and A Fair Judgement. buy this, you wont regret it.
Rating: Summary: Amazing performance. Amazing Value! Review: Not only is the band's performance on this DVD extremely enjoyable, but the DVD's overall package is worth every penny. I'm a big fan of all of Opeth's work from the older "morningrise" album to the newer Damnation album. In addition to the terrific musicianship in this concert, you also get excellent 5.1 DTS audio and very good anamorphic picture. As if the performance of the band alone is not worth it enough already, you also get a 60 minute long documentary where you see Opeth working on the Damnation/Deliverance albums. The DVd is also very affordable compared to some other concert DVDs out there. If you're a fan of Opeth this is easily a must have!
Rating: Summary: 5 Stars; Generous, eh? Review: Just got the DVD about an hour ago and just finished watching Windowpane. Already I can say that this is going to be a great concert. Just the singers' attitude shows that these guys are there for the music and for their fans, not just the "we're only in it for the money, so lets get this over with" groups that are out these days. Definately worth buying if you're into intelligent progressive music along the lines of Dream Theater, but with a smoother, less 'frilly', Yessongs feel to it...only with a different singer, of course. But definately worth buying if youre into these guys, or even if you havent heard of them at all...
