Rating: Summary: Great for someone who has never seen them in concert. Review: If you are like me and have always wanted to see Opeth in concert, but never have had a chance, buy this DVD. I know what you are thinking, live footage DVDs are a waste of money, I have the CDs, the quality of the recording wont be as good as the CD, why would I bother buying this? For one simple reason, you truely feel like you are at the show when you watch this DVD. I found myself in awe while watching this. Even though I knew the set list before hand, I got exicted when they started every song. They really put on a different show then what I would have expected. My only complaint is that I thought the miked up the keyboards a little too loud. You can also tell Michael (or however he spells it) was nervous with the cameras and all, but it doesnt really take away from the quality of the performance. The only downside to owning this is now I want to see them live even more than before.
Rating: Summary: A must have for Opeth fans. Review: If you own a DVD player and are a fan of Opeth then you must buy this DVD. Every aspect has exceeded my expectations. The sound is among the best I have heard on any live concert DVD. The inclusion of one set focusing on their softer material (mostly from Damnation) and one set of their heavier material should keep every type of Opeth fan happy. The documentary of the recording of Damnation / Deliverance is well done and offers an insight into how the band writes and records (not to mention some very cool in-studio performance clips). It maintains a good balance between interviews and recording / playing without getting boring. One thing that I found interesting about the concert footage is that I did notice a few guitar overdubs here and there (most notably at the beginning of Deliverance.... I didn't know they had 3 guitar players !?!?) Surprising for a band with such musical integrity, but I guess it is common practice these days and I can't say that it detracts from the performance at all....just something that I noticed. Buy this DVD now..... it will probably be one of the best concert DVD's in your collection.
Rating: Summary: amazing Review: this dvd is the best music dvd i've ever seen. the band plays amazingly and the sound is very clear. its almost like listening to the cds. they sound very good and i recommend this video for anyone who is a fan of the band or a fan of metal. definitely buy this
Rating: Summary: Good dvd.. Review: As much as i love Opeth (and believe me i do, i'd probably say they're my 2cnd all time favorite band) i wasn't really blown away by this dvd. I mean they pull off the songs perfectly and everything, but there's nothing from any of the performances that really reaches out and "grabs" me. I guess that's the downside of them playing that kind of complex music, it takes so much focus to pull off the songs that entertaining the audience (which they still manage to do) is really a distant thought. Of coarse i say this being a lover of AC/DC and watching their dvd's with Angus running around and going nuts on stage with his SG playing simple blues rock. But nonetheless this is still a great dvd and a great gift for Opeth fans. I really wish the setlist could have been extended to their earlier albums. I mean nothing from Still Life, My Arms Your Hearse, Morningrise, or Orchid? Come on! As i understand it though they couldn't use any songs from them albums for legal reasons. I'd still advise any Opeth fan to pick up this dvd. If nothing else the interviews and "making of Deliverance and Damnation" documentary is great.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely amazing. Review: I'm a lucky guy. My aunt went to England and got me this DVD. 2 months before the USA release. And it would've been worth the wait. The acoustic songs, which make up the first half of the album, sound amazing on this DVD. The acoustics of the place was shocking. The heavy parts are even better (which I didn't think was possible). Mikael's voice is dead-on, the guitars were perfect, the drums were mind-blowing, and the bass was too. Everything about this DVD is great. The picture andsound are great. Worth any amount of money you spend on it.
Rating: Summary: A Beautifully Inspiring Look at Opeth Review: This DVD embarks on a chance for many Opeth fans who have never been to their concert to finally see them live. The DVD includes songs from both ingredients of Opeth. A brilliant site to see such pure death metal fall into place with the beauty that is Opeth's melodic side. The dvd also contains a look into how they record their music and how Opeth creates. If you enjoy Opeth, this DVD will satisfy you until their next CD is made available. An amazing DVD well put together, and well worth any price.
Rating: Summary: Thumbs up! Review: I have an official copy of the DVD, and it definitely is impressive. The visual and aural quality are both top-notch. The band performs extremely well and I think especially the tracks from "Damnation" stand out, as the overall atmosphere during these is just as clear and low-key as one might expect.. "Lamentations" is a very appropriate title for the release. Even when the DVD perhaps concentrates more on the mellow side of the band, both extremes are displayed satisfyingly. "Lamentations" includes a lengthy document of how Opeth works in the studio. It features interviews with each member of the band and also with Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), producer and musical wizard. Recording work is also shown, and the band explains in detail how the actual songwriting happens. I'm extremely pleased with this release and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in Opeth.. their way onstage is remarkably relaxed and honest, I really want to see them live now!
Rating: Summary: Opeth dominates Review: Opeth is one of the more intelligent bands in the last ten years. They combine very heavy compositions with a melodic brillaince that is rarely seen in music today. This DVD is a collection from Blackwater park (their best in my opinion), Deliverance and Damnation (which is a 8 song cd of all mellow tracks). If the DVD is anything like the show I saw them play on May 15, 2003 we will all be very pleased.
Rating: Summary: Opeth's DVD? Review: Hi. I am assuming this is the new Opeth DVD people have been talking about! Since it doesn't say anything on this page yet, I would just like to give a few details of what I know. I know that Opeth played the complete "Damnation" album on this DVD, and also older songs... I am not sure which, however I DO know that they didn't play anything older than Blackwater Park because they were under a different record company back then. So you get songs from Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Damnation. I have not seen the live performance, but I have seen other performances by Opeth and they were amazing. Opeth was the band that brought me into metal music last Christmas, and now almost another Christmas already... In this year alone I have fully completed my Opeth and In Flames collection. This year I plan on finishing my Pain of Salvation collection, anyway... I can almost garuntee this DVD will be one of the best in your Music/DVD collection!
Rating: Summary: WOW. Review: Opeth's new DVD Lamentations is INCREDIBLE. They are one of the best bands around, by far. This DVD is NOT only for the hardcore fans...anyone can sit down, hear all of the songs for the first time, and enjoy it. Really brilliant work~
