Rating: Summary: Great Concert but the DVD has a few flaws Review: The music on this show is fantastic. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel still sound as beautiful then as they did in the sixties. Paul's guitar playing is beautiful and the songs are just amazing. The only flaw in the actual performance is that there is still a lot of tension from the two performers. Their expressions and body language make them seem like they despise being there with one another. But they are still wonderful together despite this. The DVD however has a few flaws. First of all where was the first ever performance of "The Late Great Johnny Ace"? Why was it cut? But the biggest flaw is that instead of having each song be a "chapter" They took several songs and grouped them together to make a "chapter" at several points in this concert. Other than that I can't complain. The music is still beautiful and I only hope since S&G announced they will do another reunion tour that they come to KC. If the show they do on this tour is anything like this one, it will be well worth the ticket price.
Rating: Summary: A great DVD, but ... Review: I was at this show, and it was just great. The DVD does the show justice, but I have one single gripe. Why leave some of the songs performed at the concert off the DVD? What's here is great though. Simon & Garfunkel's songs will be played and performed long after we are gone. This DVD will become a significant part of their enduring legacy as the greatest pop duo ever.
Rating: Summary: What happened to the rest of it? Review: I remember the initial airing of this (long ago in my undergraduate days). There were so many moving moments notably the new verse written for The Boxer and the scene with Paul Simon singing "The Late Great Johnny Ace" from his "Hearts and Bones" album. The former is included, but the latter, during which a fan ran up on stage and really shook Simon, has been left out of this release. The singing is fine, though Paul Simon said in later interviews that Art Garfunkel felt as though he had sung poorly. The band is great and includes such legends as Steve Gadd, Richard Tee and David Brown from Billy Joel's band. The only thing that has not aged well is Richard Tee's keyboard, but that is a minor complaint. This is a concert that was and is a milestone in pop music. I wouldn't have missed it for the world, but I would have loved to have the whole thing.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed a little. Review: I have waited a long time for this release on DVD. Priced modestly I guess because there is no extra material, nor is there a 5.1 surround rendering of the audio. Maybe that wasn't available, but I therefore am reserving a 5 star rating until maybe they give it another shot. Still though, a historic event to be shown again and again at my house.
Rating: Summary: Simon & Garfunkel - the concert!!! Wow!!! Review: Excellent, breathtaking. You remember why you loved this duo. They are fantastic. Their vocals are unbelievable!! Bridge Over Troubled Waters shows why no "american idol" can top Art Garfunkel's tremendous performance of this beautiful song.I can watch this over and over and over. 5 stars*****!!!!
Rating: Summary: Typical of a VHS release Review: This DVD release in Dolby 2.0 should automatically omit all 5 and 4 star reviews for this release! A concert of this magnitude should be remastered in Dolby 5.1 or even better, DTS in order to hear as close to the full scope of sound as possible. Are you 4 and 5 star reviewers unaware of the fact that the audio on this release is completely inadequate? The VHS release is in the same league as the DVD release, and that's a shame.
Rating: Summary: awesome Review: i was never a simon and garfunkel fan before i happen to be in new york on business, that night a client and i went to the concert, it was the most amazing thing i have ever seen.i have been to lots of concerts, but i have never seen the energy in a crowd like i saw that night. i will probably never experience that again. i can not wait until the dvd comes out.
Rating: Summary: The greatest concert of all time? Review: What a fantastic concert, I wish I could have been there. Imagine being stood in central park, watching one of the greatest song writers of all time performing his very best material with the incredible voice of Art Garfunkel and a great set of session musicians, what a treat for NYC! Most of these performances actually surpass the studio recordings, in particular the solo Paul Simon tracks which are performed with new, more fluent arrangements, especially 'American Tune' which has the welcomed addition of Art Garfunkel singing the lead vocal as though it was written for him. This DVD release is long overdue!
Rating: Summary: Concert In The Park...superb entertainment Review: Play this VHS tape through your receiver and speakers to get the great sound it deserves. Will knock your socks off...the event will electrify you! They don't make them like this anymore...
Rating: Summary: Should be called Paul Simon: Live Review: I was very happy to see that this concert was coming on TV, but after watching it, I realized that I would rather just listen to the albums. This has mostly Paul Simon solo songs on it. They did maybe 7 or 8 Paul Simon songs. I hate Paul Simon's solo work and I think they should have done all Simon & Garfunkel songs. I would definetly not recommend this video.
