Rating: Summary: The Greatest Concert Review: I was one of the fortunate people who attended this concert. As best I can tell, this concert is mostly from the January 1 performance, the concert I attended. In particular, I remember her flubbing the lyrics to "Evergreen" that night.Something essential to know in viewing this DVD is that at the time of these two concerts, it was thought that these would be it--there were no plans for a tour that had been made public at the time. There was an excitement in the air that night because we all believed we were witnessing a one (or two) time thing that would not be repeated. I remember being struck with her warmth and connection to to the audience, her ease and comfort with the concert (although, in fact, I don't think she felt that way). At the end of the concert I saw, she told the audience that she had really enjoyed this particular concert, much more than the previous night. I can tell you, we were all wild with excitement. It was an extraordinary concert and extraordinary experience. I highly recommend this DVD, despite the fact that she altered her material in the later tour--added songs from "Yentl" and dropped the Linda Richmond skit. It is was an unforgettable experience (and I saw the "Timeless" Concert from the third row a few years later). Don't miss this opportunity to see what we all saw and felt on January 1, 1994. Now, that night was timeless.
Rating: Summary: LIKE BUTTER!!!! Review: I WAS THERE....well the first night anyway, but I think this is mostly the second night which is just as well. You can see how relaxed Barbra was that night, whereas she tended to hold back during the first act on New Year's Eve the night before. This DVD is a great document considering how the show evolved when she took it on the road that spring. Some songs were dropped (the Love and the Disney medleys), others added (the Yentl medley and Somewhere), there was editing of her monologues and therapist dialogues, even arrangements changed (notably My Man). But, you get to see an historical performance, the most important engagement by a pop star in Vegas since Elvis followed Barbra at the Hilton (nee International) in 1969. The dedication to her mother is especailly touching. With Mike Meyers making an appearance as Linda Richman, the whole night is like a big tub of Land O'Lakes!!!!
Rating: Summary: She went down the Stoney End and wound up in Malibu. . . Review: I will be an optimist and recommend this DVD. Before she got married and hid in the rose garden, BS could summon up her powers of song and chutzpah and move the masses. Let's hope this forthcoming DVD will usher in the other TV concert and performance specials going back to 1965. I give this 4/5 stars, leaving one out as punishment for making THE MOVIE ALBUM.
Rating: Summary: well recieved Review: I will be open and recommend this DVD. Before she got married and hid in her garden, Barbra could unleash her amazing vocal talent and move the masses. Rating: Summary: The Best Concert Of Barbra Review: I'm a Babs fan from Portugal. This are the very best perfomance of Barbra.
Rating: Summary: Good But Not the Best Review: It seems strange that after 10 years Barbra would decide to release this version of The Concert on DVD. She is in great voice, but this plays like a dress rehearsel for the show she took on the road. The song selection and scripted banter is not as good as The Concert released in 1994 from her Arrowhead Pond show -- nor is it as good as the cd release from Madison Square Garden. The extras are nice (one song from "My Name is Barbra" and one from "Color Me Barbra" -- but why not just release those tv specials on dvd already??). So this show is nice to see, but I'll stick with my laserdisc of The Concert, and the "extra" of Barbra performing "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life." That's the show she should have rereleased.
Rating: Summary: Good version of her concert Review: It's a shame that Ms. Streisand chose this version of her wonderful concert for the DVD. It omits several songs that were electrifying in her tour, namely the Yentl section. When I saw the concert in Washington, this section stopped the show. She's in terrific voice and really knows how to work a crowd. The Linda Richmond section is a riot. The 5.1 surround is excellant, as is the picture quality. The omissions are the only reason I'm not rating this disc a 5 star DVD.
Rating: Summary: I WAS THERE!! Review: Ok, sure I am bragging, but honest, I was there. Still can barely believe it. I ammmmmmmm so happy to have this night finally to watch over and over. It was a fantastic night, she was everything I ever dreamed she would be in person and more. I have each of her albums memorized and she hit every note. WOW!!I still get tears when I think about it!! I love Barbra!
Rating: Summary: What's the point? Review: They left out the Yentl Medley? That's like 'The Exorcist' without the exorcism. The Yentl Medley is the single greatest performance Barbra has ever given and they left it out?! Isanity runs wild! They could have at least included it as a bonus feature. Very disappointed!
Rating: Summary: This DVD is "Just Like Buttah!" Review: This DVD is Excellent! I was one of the lucky ones who saw this concert in San Jose and will never forget the great experience. This concert is much better than The Timeless Concert. More emotion and performance in her voice and stage presence. With two added songs and an appearance by Linda Richman I can hardly wait to own this historic concert. Why Historic? Because it was her first concert for her fans in a long over waited time to see her perform. Highly Recommended to own!!
