Rating: Summary: This DVD Jumps! Review: Out of print since the 1984 video release, this remixed, remastered version really jumps out at the viewer. The bass and drums, barely audible in the 1984 Hi-FI stereo mix, now pop out and vibrate your soul. I was a little dissapointed that the bonus tracks on the DVD, actually edited into the 1984 release, are no longer part of the film because it seeems that the negatives are sadly lost and only the ' 84 video masters are available. That's a guess based on the liner notes on the DVD. The commentary is fun as well. Buy. Enjoy. Dance.
Rating: Summary: Art, Energy, and a Damn Good Time Review: Talking Heads is one of those bands that seemed to slip from my grasp in the 80's. I bought the DVD on the strength of the reviews which said it is the best concert film ever made.Everything you've heard is TRUE! I've never seen so much creativity and energy in a concert. The staging, the orchestration, the direction, and most of all the amazing creative energy and drive of David Byrne make this the most infectious live concert experience I've ever had. I defy anyone to sit still during "Burning Down The House". The DVD video transfer and audio quality are excellent. This one is a keeper.
Rating: Summary: This is the most watched video I've ever seen -- Review: I have been exercising to this video by riding rollers or a wind trainer ever since it came out on video. Unfortunately, I own a Beta version of this tape and when my tape player was deemed un-repairable over a year ago I was devastated. As much as I tried, I could not locate a VHS copy or a Beta player replacement. To say the least, this video whether exercising or just watching David Byrne's performance in awe is outstanding. However, it really is best when you listen to it cranked up and working up a sweat. The performance progressively blends additional instrumental and vocal accompaniment and for the first 45 minutes gets faster and faster. This is perfect for first warming up and then just busting out a real sweat while witnessing one of the most riveting performance bands of all time. Riding rollers, a wind trainer or a treadmill is excruciatingly boring. Thank you David Byrne and Talking Heads for keeping me interested for many years and especially for brining this masterful performance out on DVD.
Rating: Summary: I loved it, and I'm not even a Talking Heads fan! Review: A friend of mine took me to a screening of this film at the Detroit Arts Theatre, and I was astounded. I've heard and liked a few of their songs in the past, but I've never been a real fan, until I saw this movie that is. The performances are just amazing, the lead singer is a hoot to watch perform, and the music is blazing and great. People were getting up and dancing by the end! The film is somewhat spoiled if you get the regular version, so you definately want to get the widescreen or DVD version. Play it loud, too!
Rating: Summary: the best concert movie ever made Review: The best sound , the best performers, the best songs, the best live music video ever made."You may ask yourself ,what don't I own a copy"
Rating: Summary: The best concert movie ever! Review: "Stop Making Sense" has been out of print for years. I've worn out VHS copy after copy, only to be saved by a few rare bids on Ebay. The DVD version is finally here! Nothing, absolutly nothing can compare to this movie. Filmed in Los Angeles in 1984, it defined the decade. J. Demme directs, and you know his movies such as "Silence of the Lambs". Their style, music and energy has never been duplicated by any other band. Talking Heads was at the peak of their game. Watching "Stop Making Sense" is like watching the birth of time itself.
Rating: Summary: Saw It Live! Review: I was fortunate enough to see this tour live in Austin, TX and ended up about 20 feet from the middle of the stage. Needless to say I was blown away! Then Jonathon Demme comes out with the movie and everyone in the theatre was dancing just as hard as everyone at the actual concert! It is rare when a concert film packs as much energy as the actual show just as it is rare when a movie is as good as the book. I can't wait until the widescreen DVD comes out and I can turn my living room into a "Talking Heads" dance club! Talk about aerobics!
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!! Review: If you haven't seen it, get it!!! This video is wonderful. Get it while you can.
Rating: Summary: Stop Making Sense opened a whole new door in music for me!! Review: With bands like the Dave Matthews Band, Widespread Panic, Phish, and the Grateful Dead being my preferred taste of music, I was amazed at the influence that the Talking Heads have had on all sorts of music. And I realized this upon seeing the Stop Making Sense video. All of these bands above have at one point or another covered a Talking Heads song and now I can understand why. With the Tom Tom Club joining the Talking Heads on stage, the musical talent and overall energy David Byrne and company produce will blow any music lover away. The video starts with Byrne on stage by himself and then with each song that is played more and more musicians accompany him on stage. By the middle of the show the stage is filled and the music and energy is spectacular. Hear all the Talking Heads classics because they are all on it and one can purchase the live identical CD as well, which I went out and bought the next day. I highly recommend this video/CD or both, I promise you will not be let down. Throw it in on the TV or CD player for friends and the spread the word.
Rating: Summary: A lifelong journey Review: First I saw the video on MTV. I bought the record, then the CD. Finally I found the VHS and I thought I had everything. Then they released the anniversary edition CD and finally I bought the DVD. If only I would have been able to actually attend. Need I say more. The music is fantastic, and the presentation is entertaining. This is by far, the best concert video I've ever seen, and if your not already a Talking Heads fan, you will be after you watch and listen.
