Summary: Poor Audio Quality? Not here!
Review: Beware. A number of the reviews written about this and companion CD product complain of poor audio quality, but if you read the reviews, they are actually complaining about the Rush in Rio theatrical release. That may well have had poor sound quality, I don't know, I didn't see it. I do have this DVD, and I would not describe the sound as poor, not close. I think the sound is much better than their last live album, "Different Stages".

My only gripe with this DVD is I would've liked to see more of what was going on on the screen behind the stage, maybe as a 2nd angle. In concert, many Rush songs are accompanied by a video clip, sometimes humorous, sometimes dazzling, sometimes just clips from the song's video. It's a small gripe, because the main point of this is watching the band and the music.

Summary: Don't listen to the technical geeks
Review: I just can't believe some of the negative comments I've been reading. Rush has, and always will be, a musician's band. Therefore, it's only natural that any guitarist, any bassist, any drummer (oh, listen to those drummers complain!!), is going to gravitate and be extra critical towards the performance/sound of their chosen hero. You people are nitpicking. "Oh, I can't hear the drums," "the bass is way too loud," "the sound isn't clear," "I can't hear the vocals." Have any of you ever been to a rock concert at all in your life? It's never perfect!! Some parts always overshadow others in the mix somewhere. There are obnoxious drunks everywhere. It's smokey, sweaty, & crowded. Here's an opportunity to watch without obstruction an excellent band, just coming off an outstanding tour with a great setlist, one I feel privileged to have gotten the chance to see live, and all I hear are overly critical, very minor, geeky, technical, extra (...) complaints. This is a great DVD, and a superb representation of their tour, which we as Rush fans are pretty d**n lucky to have considering what these guys have been through in the last 5 years. I have a humble little 5.1 sound system with a good subwoofer and a simple 32 inch screen - this concert looks and sounds just fine to me. It sounds exactly as I heard it at their Sacramento show last year - very tight, very clean, very loud, not one missed note or beat. Did any of you actually watch the documentary or read the liner notes by Neil? They pulled this show off without a playing or recording soundcheck, and all things considered, they gave Brazil a 100% show and put out one heck of a dvd for the fans. So, for all the musicians and sound technicians who whine about not being able to see or hear Neil's, Geddy's, or Alex's playing clearly, go put on their studio recordings, get behind your instrument of choice, and use your ears to learn what they are doing. For the people who want to see what this Rush tour was all about, get this dvd. As a true fan, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Summary: DVD much better than theater performce
Review: I attended the Rush In Rio theater premier last night and was very disappointed with the sound mix. The guitar and bass dominated the show, with Neil's drums almost non-existant. Since I had already bought the CD & DVD before the show, but had not listened to either, I hoped like hell that the CD & DVD mixes were much better. So naturally, I rushed home and popped in the DVD to check the sound quality. Within 30 seconds I knew that the crappy sound quality was just a poor theater production and not a bad DVD mix. I do agree, however, that Neil's drums sounded much better on Broon's recordings. Neil's drum sound has not been the same since Terry Brown- especially on recent albums such as Different Stages and Vapor Trails, but I wouldn't classify the sound as poor or bad-just different. So don't fret over the sound. For those of you who don't have a Dolby Digital 5.1 receiver, you should probably change the audio set-up to stereo to hear a more accurate sound reproduction. Overall, I feel the DVD has great picture quality, great camera work, a great concert atmosphere and realistic concert sound-not the refined mix of a studio recording. I have not watched the second DVD yet, but I am looking forward to the MX multi-angle and the backstage stuff. If you are a true Rush fan, I don't know how you cannot like this DVD package

Summary: RIO-Impressive!
Review: Familiar with all the live preformances recorded by Rush this by far exceeds any expectations I had personally. What others expected (Sound Quality, etc.) I was impressed with, sounds like greed got the best of these people. Rush, being so well known for Live performances, will always be expected to produce perfection. However, barring what opinions of critical reviewers think of the sound quality, this DVD has so much more to offer in terms of satisfying our natural instincts-enjoying what we see/hear-and be emotionally awe inspired. These guys are a true gift from God and it shows!

Summary: What I've been waiting for!!!
Review: For anyone who is unsure about buying this set- go out and get it. The boys of Rush deliver like never before! I had a lot of fun messing with the multiangle feature last night. This feature is good if you're an aspiring musician, because you can pretty much see everything the band is doing. The documentary part on the second disc is great too. It give you an off the stage perspective of the band, which fans rarely get to see. There are cool easter eggs and other cool things but I can't spoil it all. This is definately a five star item!

Summary: I thought my Home Theater or my ears were shot!
Review: Tracked my overnight package about a dozen times to ensure that my Rush DVD would be waiting there when I got home. Popped it into DVD player, turned up the amp, dimmed the lights, kicked back and got ready to rock. When the show started I thought, "Who had been jacking with my Home Theater System"? I don't have kids and my wife doesn't even know how to turn the system on. So, I started messing with every 5.1 setup on my system but could never really get something I was comfortable with. Then I thought, oh yeah this DVD also includes a dts mode, which I read about in a pre-release review. Switched back to the menu and sound setup and found there was no dts mode, just 5.1 and Surround Sound! I was hoping for a dts mode because my Steely Dan Two Against Nature sounds awesome in this mode. I use it to demonstrate my system to visitors. My other problem with the sound is that there is way too much crowd noise! This makes it difficult to enjoy the music. After about a half hour of tweaking the system, here's the best setting I could find for Sony Home Theater receivers. 5.1 mode, Cinema Surround "C", woofer -10db, rear -10db, front +10db. Any if you crank it up too much, it will sound muddy. Oh well, at least the disc #2 extras are neat. I like how they did the multi-angle songs. You have the main screen with four smaller screens below it and use the remote to bounce between them. It's kind of like you're the guy in the editing booth at a live event deciding which camera to show. Take care fellow Rush fans. Jim

Summary: A monkey could have done a better job mixing this thing
Review: I am a fan of the older Rush. I think it was pretty much down hill after Moving Pictures, but I still waited for Signals and I did buy Grace Under Pressure on release day only to be let down, but these guy's are great live, so even if they would play YYZ, or Cygnus X-1 during a show I would feel like I got my moneys worth. People just dont understand how awesome the Hemespheres or A Farewell To Kings tours were, but I guess I'm just old hehe.. Anyway, now we all have 5.1 systems in our homes pushing 100 + watts to every channel, we have bass speaker that can re-create the actual concert. Pick up the new KREATOR "Live Kreation" DVD and you feel the energy of an awesome live performance with seperation so clear you can spend all day learning different guitar parts if you choose. Seeing the track listing on Rush in Rio, I ran out and picked the CD and DVD up on release day and could not wait to check it out.. Don't be suprised if this thing actually causes damage to your speakers. Take a portable DVD player, a guitar and a portable amp to the end of runway 28 right at any major airport and turn the DVD sound all the way down you will get the same result. The 2 Stars is for the extra footage, it's hard to screw up a single voice track. The CD has the same horrable mix, it's hard to enjoy the songs when it sounds like a World Cup playoff game in the background.

Summary: Disappointed Long Time Rush Fan!!
Review: I have been a Rush fan now since 2112 came out in mid 70's. I have seen them countless times. 3 times on this last tour. I also am always searching for film footage of this great band and was very excited to finally see them putting out a great package for all of us Rush fans. I feel the packaging of this product is great. The film gives a great view of what it is like to see Rush, however the sound quality is poor. Like many other reviews, this is not the true sound of a Rush show. I also feel the crowd sound overshadowed the band. I'm not a sound engineer or do I have any idea how they record these, however take a tip from what you did on the CD with the 2 bootleg songs: Between Sun & Moon and Vital Signs. That is how it sounds to be at a Rush show. I only wish the entire DVD would have this sound. Overall I am excited and the documentary is priceless. Also I will continue to watch the DVD many times because this will always bring back memories of being there live.

Summary: A great DVD of rush
Review: i`m very fan of rush trough 20 years,i saw yesterday the DVD, First the second disc of title boys in brazil the explanation is great about the preparation of the shows(i think almost shows is doing exactly),experiences of self beings and how remedy the problems in the shows like profesionals.i think is the very first time to seen the impresions of the members of rush behind the shows in some DVD.
the second part is very good about some angles of the songs like Yyz,La villa Strangiato,O Baterista.at this time i investigate how to see videos of easter eggs part, i think just anymore in the pc(DVD-ROM) not at the dvd.

the main disc (first disc) in the beginning sounds great contagious adrenaline from the people.the show and production is powerfull.i think is much better the quality sound than the cd music, but i think leave desire of better quality, but is great.
if something know how to see easter egg part in the dvd let me know?,please.
