Rating: Summary: Great music, but camera work not very good Review: If you close your eyes, the music is awesome. But the camera work is awefull. It was very hard to watch this dvd. The cameras keep showing the crowd instead of the bandmembers, switching between camera angles too quickly. Very irritating. They keep missing the good parts of the band during the songs. I love RUSH, but they hired the wrong camera men to make this DVD. DVD disk 2 is much better to watch.
Rating: Summary: Some Rush fans are weird... Review: Especially the ones complaining about the crowd noise during the concert. Yeah, sorry- it's a little hard to quiet down 40,000 screaming Brazilians watching a Rush concert for the first time - morons. The DVD is incredible- Don't listen to the nerdy fanboys who are complaining about the audio, they just need to get out of the house- if your a fan of Rush, you'll love this- it's their best live concert film to date.
Rating: Summary: Bum Rush in Rio Review: UNWATCHABLE!!! One of the best concerts to come down the pike in years completely destroyed by the worst audio ever. If you like going to concerts and sitting in the 135th row then perhaps you will find this enjoyable. If you are a big fan of crowd noise with someone singing faintly off in the distance then, by all means, go ahead and purchase this. If you are a fan of Rush and a fan of music you have to ask; "Did anybody listen to this before it was released?" You can't just blame the audio crew or the producers or the director. It has to eventually go back to the boys themselves, Geddy, Alex and Neil. You should be ashamed! I saw this concert when you came to Denver and it was one of the best ever, but there is no excuse for allowing this DVD to be released in 2003 with sound from 1952. You can attempt to correct the problem with every possible setting on your theater sound system but your efforts will be fruitless. The packaging of this DVD is some of the best ever but....WHO CARES! Who forgot to turn on Geddy's microphone? To the fans in Rio...Nice concert. You were outstanding, especially in volume. Did any of you get to hear the guys that were on stage?
Rating: Summary: The ultimate RUSH from Canada to Brazil Review: As many times as I've seen the boys, this was the first I'd seen them in my living room. Although the sound is only 2 channel Digital Dolby; Surround Sound would have been nice, but concerts are really only 2 channels. Crank it up and the sound is great. Non-stop from beginning to end - including an ingenious intermission, this concert is great! I still think Rush is without a doubt one of the most brilliant acts consisting of individual genius!
Rating: Summary: I don't understand.... Review: I almost did not buy this because of some reviews that say the concert mix was bad. I decided to get it anyway. I think it sounds great. I have no idea what these people are talking about. The only problem I noticed is that I had a problem hearing the singer talk between songs. No problem during the songs Either some people are too picky or there are defective disks out there. MY DVD SOUNDS GREAT. I was not much of a Rush fan before this disk, I am a HUGE fan now.
Rating: Summary: Worth buying for a RUSH fan because of Disc 2 Review: The audio is definitely not all it should be for the concerts. Worse than that is the abysmal editing on the video. The scenes jump to the beat in MTV style editing. Pretty terrible. My other complaint is the ridiculous "Easter Eggs". Once upon a time easter eggs existed to give the buyer a little bonus. Here, it is being used to hide songs that should have been available without the extra effort and silliness. I'd suggest that in the future easter eggs be something like a nice slide show of the band or perhaps some nice screenshots that we can download and use as backgrounds on our computers. Don't hide the content we are buying... give us real bonuses. Maybe even a small game of "Find the Soup". The saving grace of this DVD set is Disc 2. There is a documentary where you can follow the band around, see some of what they go through before a show, and watch mini-interviews with all 3 band members. This alone can make it worth buying for a Rush fan. The video editing on this disc is excellent. Also there are a few songs on this disc that allow you to pick your angle and focus on whatever you like during the song. The amateurish editing from Disc 1 is not present here.
Rating: Summary: ALL IT SHOULD BE Review: THIS IS A GREAT DVD AND A MUST BUY FOR ALL MUSIC FANS. The interviews and DVD quality is excellent. I have read some of the reviews that put down the sound quality. I found it to be fine. I just cranked it up on my new Sony System and no complaints. I don't know what these elitist snobs are complaining about? The DVD sounds great. Enjoy it!!
Rating: Summary: What ??? Review: How can some people criticize the sound quality? Like Alex didn't know what he was doing, do you really think you know more than this guys that are perfectionists and are on the road for almost 30 years. Think about it. Ah, and the crowd... That IS A CROWD, forget the chairs, did you see anybody sitting down? or not singing? It is perfect, worth every penny.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy it for the concert footage. Review: Buy it for the documentary. After much anticipation and waiting, I popped the DVD into my home theater system and cringed at the audio quality. It's HORRIBLE! Way too much crowd noise. Forget about hearing Alex. He's absolutely missing from the mix. If not for the excellent and highly enjoyable documentary by band photographer Andrew McNaughton, this DVD would be a bust. It pains me to write this. I love this band and have come to expect more. Sadly, this DVD will likely be relegated to the "back" of my collection, only to be played when I want to revisit the documentary or Neil's solo. If you're a RUSH fan, go ahead and buy it. It's worth the 20 bucks just to get a glimpse of the personalities of Lerxst, Dirk and Pratt. To all you die-hard RUSH fans who are pissed off at the negative reviews: Sorry...we're just being honest. "We" being myself and many other fans who have remarked on the poor audio quality.
