Rating: Summary: READ THIS: SOUND IS TERRIBLE!!!...CROWD NOISE TOO LOUD!!! Review: I LOVE Rush!!!...however, the sound on this is so bad I stopped my player at track 5 and am heading back to the store to return the DVD with a request for a refund...do not buy this if you want to hear the band....if you like listening to people yell and scream this is the DVD for you!!!...bottom line...this is an EXTREME DISAPPOINTMENT!!!
Rating: Summary: Good Music - Very Lousy Video Review: The music on this concert DVD is good, but the video editing is horrible, extremely annoying. The camera jumps on almost every beat of the music to various two second shots of the audience, the stage, the lights, the performers, and just about anything, etc. Who in their right mind watches a concert that way??? Its like disco video. The video should just focus on the performers and the stage and dwell on the musicians. When the video is jumping around every two seconds it completely distracts from the performance. I'd rather just listen to the CD. Its too bad, they really ruined what could have been a good overall concert DVD, because the actual music is good. I'm gonna sell my DVD, I'm that disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Where Are The Vocal's...Lost? Review: A Rush Fans Dream..Killer Production & Extra's But What Happened To The Vocal Mix.Geddy Lee's Vocals Are Mixed So Low It Really Wrecks This Otherwise Excellent 5 Star DVD.I Think They Made A Terrible Mistake And Moved The Level For Crowd Noise Up Thinking It Was The Level For Geddy's Vocals.IM Serious The People Who Mastered This DVD Are IDIOTS.Didn't They Listen To Playback. And It's The Same In 5.1 Or Stereo. It's A Shame To Have To Wait For A Remix And Buy This DVD Again. At This Level You Expect Someone To Know What They Are Doing.NOT!
Rating: Summary: A Long, Long Time Rush Fan Review: I've been a hard-core Rush fan for 27 years and have seen them over 15 times in concert, although not so much in the last few years and I missed this particular tour. When I saw Rush had finally come out with a concert DVD I was thrilled. I collect rock DVD's so I was excited to add this to my collection. When I first listened to it, it was on a large surround system with high quality JBL drivers in a large room perfect for this type of music, and quite frankly, the 5.1 mix simply stinks. The sound engineers should be severely disciplined (or something), given the way technology has advanced. Also, why wasn't this recorded in DTS? Big, big mistake especially considering the quality of music and performance, which is simply remarkable. If you're a Rush fan, you will love this show and the music, but it sounds better in stereo than in 5.1 in my opinion. Running it through a Sound Blaster on a computer in my office with a "Rock" environment improved the sound enormously. Also, its quite long for Rush, in years past they have limited their shows to around two hours, and the longer show presented here is great. My guess is, they will re-mix and re-release the disk later because the performance is incredible and the recording captured everything.
Rating: Summary: Rush still Rules Review: I've been a Rush fan since 1980 when my dad gave me a copy of Fly By Night. I've seen Rush many times as all of you have- but watching this DVD brought tears to my eyes. I've seen them in Oakland, San Diego, Devore, LA,and Long Beach- but the Rio crowd put us all to shame. Shake yourselves for the next tour! If/when they tour again, I'm going to see them in Brazil where the real Rush fans seem to have gathered... It's true that the editing is a little jumpy- but the music and the crowd are so strong, that no amount of editing could mess this show up. For best results....Play Loud!! Long live, Alex, Geddy, and Neil
Rating: Summary: Great!!!!! Review: I've been a Rush fan for over 25 years and this new DVD concert "Rush In Rio" is great. With all of the issues the band has had to deal with the past few years (the death of Neil's wife and daughter) it's great to see the guys together once again playing all of their great songs. I saw the Vapor Trails tour myself and being able to see it again and again on this DVD truly makes me smile every time. I think the picture quality and sound are fine, if you read the booklet and watch the second DVD that comes with it you understand the problems the band had in Rio with the weather, it's a wonder they even got the show filmed or recorded at all. Sure glad they did though. It rained the night before and blow some of their equipment so they didn't have time to do a sound check or test the cameras at all, what you see and hear is the way it was and to me that makes the DVD even greater.
Rating: Summary: THE FOURTH ELEMENT Review: So you're looking for the ultimate Rush video ,packed with perfect sound, mixing, clear details that only master musicians like Alex,Geddy and Neil can offer.Ok,then pick up your favorite Rush CD,put your earphones on and sit back, eyes closed, for this is not what you will find on this DVD.This is a live rock concert played spectacularly by four elements:Alex ,Geddy,Neil and...the brazilian crowd. This DVD wasn't thought to be produced as it was,it probably would be produced the same way all other Rush releases are:clear and perfect mixing and sound. But the band itself and the crew didn't expect they would have to interact with he most brilliant fans ever on a Rush tour,so they had to make it differently from any other gig previously recorded ,as we weren't watching a Rush concert,we were actually playing WITH the band.A better role should be guaranteed for us on the movie... So if you want not only to see Rush playing live, but FEEL them and interact with them and with an amazing crowd, buy this now. But if you want a video with superior musicianship, perfect band interaction and recording, and everything you always have on any Rush material, this is also the DVD.Afterall,it's Rush playing... All you got to do is fix your home theater to minimize the crowd effect, and listen to the music. You loose. This is the perfect live rock concert of all time.Don't listen to the "sound engineers"of other reviews.I can assure you,I was there.
Rating: Summary: "Rush in Rio" - Double Platinum Review: The best music DVD of the world. Perfect, 22 cameras, multi-angles and 60,000(São Paulo); 46,000(Rio de Janeiro) and 25,000(Porto Alegre) people. In 01 week after release, "RinR" is double platinum. It's number #1 billboard.
Rating: Summary: Still Rolling Them Bones Review: Rush in Rio is a great testament to a band which as little as three years ago seemed to have no future. It shows their true love of their craft to handle and overcome personnel circumstances and to be(for lack of a better term) "born again". RIR has captured their raw power and vitality which bands half their age don't have. As a "live video" it is as live as you can get, where as other bands will shoot over a series of nights and then go back in the studio to "enhance" their performance, Rush lets it all hang out for good or bad (mostly good). It's good to see an artist take a risk and "go live" in an age of risk avoidance, over packaging, lip synching (MTV), and image managers. Thank you Rush for keeping it real.
Rating: Summary: Obrigado Rush! From a fan In NJ, USA Review: For twenty dollars, you get 2 DVD's featuring 28 songs and interviews with the band, which as Rush Fans know, it's very rare that you get to see these guy's in an interview (especially Neil). I think just the interview disk alone is worth the price. I've heard some other complaints in other reviews about the sound, I haven't played it on my home theater system yet but I did watch on a regular tv and I didn't have any problems with the sound or production of this disk. I thought it was a amazing how well the Brazilian fans reacted to this show, I don't know how many of those fans understand English, but wether they did or not, they certainly enjoyed the music. I've seen rush on every tour since the Power Windows album, and I went to some of the shows twice, probably 11 times in all. I saw them twice on the Vapor trails tour, once in Madison Square Garden in NYC and another show at the PNC Bank Arts center in NJ. both were great shows. It's been a tradition with me and about 8 of my friends to see Rush every time they tour.. I'll miss those times if Rush ever decides to quit touring.
