Summary: What a dissapointment
Review: As a Sarah Brightman fan I must say that I am terribly dissapointed in this DVD. Although the settings are lush and exotic, the audio and video are both less that the quality I have come to expect. There are no subtitles or lyrics (mia culpa, I should have read the fine print).

I place no more value in this DVD than a VHS tape that I would have recorded from a TV special.

Summary: Brightman Delivers
Review: Eqsquisite cinemetography and crystal like sound transend the viewer into mystical like Harem's set all over exotic middle eastern locations. Brightman herself steals the eye with lavish costumes, either draped in stunning custom made gowns, or eastern influenced breathtaking attire. The music, settings, and costumes fuse to create a mystical setting and take the music to an entirely new level.

Costumes and makeup are key in changing the mood and defining the particular "Harem." Brightman herself is stunning in each setting and scenes are created in such an "Over the top" way that the viewer is lost in what is the "dessert fantasy" that she is trying so hard to re-create.

Filming for this special took place all over the middle east, as did recording for the accompnying Harem album. Brightman wanted to ensure artistic quality in the recreation of these settings. This collection does glamorize the middle eastern culture but it is done in a way of fantasy, not in particular "real life" war-time settings. It is apparent that great time went into costumes and settings. Brightman proves that she can strech herself.

The video for "Anytime Anywhere" which sound takes on a very Arabic feel within this setting, is gorgeous and Brightman outdoes herself in a long black beeded costume. Brightman remains sexy but in a way that is not distracting to the music, it only adds to it.

Summary: Good but disappointing
Review: I am a Sarah Brightman fan and saw the PBS presentation of Harem.
On the strength of the PBS show I ordered the DVD. The music is great, but I found the video quality poor.
I don't know if this is due to "artistic" camera and/or editing work or just bad quality.
On the plus side, the behind the scenes segments on the DVD were tremendous

Summary: Great fancy video with very pleasant songs
Review: I bought this DVD only two days ago, but I played five times in my home music system with a 50" HD-Ready LCD TV. The more I played and watched, the more I like this DVD. I don't know how they changing those simple background they taken in their film to the oil painting effection viewable video, very fantasy and beauty. Plus, songs in this DVD are very good. I especially like "stranger in paradise","time to say goodbye", and the first two songs. You won't be disappointed by this DVD if you purchase it. It is worthing your money.

Summary: Entertaining diversion
Review: I did not get a chance to see Ms. Brightman's tour when she passed through my town, but I did catch this special. I found it unique and entertaining, and a welcome diversion while I wait for the tour to be released on DVD. The videos are all well-put together and are visually stunning; "Harem", "What a Wonderful World", "Beautiful", and "It's a Beautiful Day" are particularly remarkable, as is the new one for "Anytime, Anywhere". One that struck me as peculiar, however, was "Nessun Dorma", because it consisted of stock footage from her previous "La Luna" concert. Brightman makes up for this small lack by providing some interesting commentary about her motivation behind making a Middle Eastern-filmed album. The only thing that might be lamented about this DVD is the lack of extras; there is a photo gallery and a making-of documentary but I had hoped for a video diary--like the tour diary included along with the "La Luna" concert. But I'm sure that will be included when the tour DVD is finally released. Until then, enjoy.

Summary: with a few reservations
Review: I found the DVD to be very sensual---and if that's what you enjoy you will like this. It is a lot of belly dancing, and often Sarah shows way too much of herself.
She waves her arms throughout the entire DVD.

Those are the two negatives. The positives are the beautiful music and her beautiful face. I went to see her Harem program and it was the best thing I have ever seen or heard, in the way of concerts.

Sarah sets up each music video, so you get to hear her speak.

Summary: It Took My Breath Away As She Normally Does...
Review: I fully recommend this dvd! one of my favorites on here was "Mysterious Days" I loved the dance moves and her performance in the video was great! Harem was Realy great too! But my fav, that stays within my heart forever is "The war is Over" This song is in my heart because on Nov 17th on my mothers birthday, My mom and dads home was burned to the ground. They almost perrished in the fire, but thanks to their 2 doggies (one died in the fire) woke them up just before the flames and smoke got the best of them. That song played over and over in my head as we watched the home dissapear. I cannot hear or watch this song without crying! This is an awsome dvd! I think if you decide to buy it you will enjoy everything about this DVD!

Summary: Sarah Brightman - Harem Fantasy
Review: I have all of Sarah's Cd's, dvd.s and have been to all of her concerts. The latest concert Harem was awesome!~!!!!This Dvd is a beauty... filmed like A PAINTING. I am so glad that I added it to my collection. Sarah's creativity gets better with every new venture; and she must have such fun exploring new ideas. It certainly shows in this dvd as well as in her latest concert. The incrediably beautiful costumes and stunning effects with the beautiful music are unforgettable combination. I can't wait for the next adventure with Sarah.
Sincerely, Kathy Young, Seneca SC

Summary: What a Sad, Sad DVD/Video
Review: I just saw the Sarah Brightman: Live in Las Vegas DVD and it is a 5+. Sarah is very classy, and beatiful in her Las Vegas show. So, with this in mind, I was expecting that the Harem Desert Fantasy would be the same - classy, beatiful, and amazing. Well, I just received the Desert Fantasy DVD and what a sad dissapointment. Sarah looks terrible and cheap.

The quality (image and sound) is not good either. Almost in every video, Sarah is swinging her arms about - it's very annoying. And the make-up, couln't she hire a professional! It makes her look like a bimbo for goodness sake!!

I am upset that I bought this DVD. What a waste of my money. I suggest, if you want a good Sarah Brightman DVD, that you get the Sarah Brightman: Live in Las Vegas. It is such a better video for several reasons - including: Image and sound quality, beatiful wardrobe, AND the Las Vegas DVD has 22 or 23 songs (unlike Desert Fantasy that has only 13). And one more thing: I found that in the Desert Fantasy, Sarah talks a little bit before each video - I also found this to be annoying. I hope that my review helps you.
