Rating: Summary: A fabulous tribute Review: This is a superb DVD which faithfully reproduces Georges finest work. There is a minimum of re-interpretation. The musicianship throughout is fabulous as is in most cases, the singing My favourites are Billy Preston's version of 'My Sweet Lord'and Gary Brooker's version of 'Old Brown Shoe'. In both cases the vocals are strong and dare I say it better than the original versions by George Eric Clapton's and Paul McCartneys version of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' is superb and close to the original and Jeff Lynne's version of 'The Inner Light'adds a melodic dimension to that song which is lost in the original's production. Joe Brown's vesion of 'Here Comes the Sun' is close to the original and very pleasing. Whilst I understand Paul McCartney's reasons for playing 'Something' on ukelele, frankly it detracts from the song and its only half way through where the song transposes to the origanal version that it becomes enjoyable. I found Tom Petty's version of 'Taxman' and 'I Need You' the only weak and disappointing part of the DVD. That stated however, this DVD and no doubt the CD version of the same, is a fine addition to anyone's George Harrison collection. I have been playing it continuously since I bought it two weeks ago.
Rating: Summary: Our Sweet George Review: You may have been disappointed by the musical shortcomings of live recordings (even those with great emotional charge) like (CSNY's) Four Way Street or Woodstock or The Last Waltz. Check your disappointment at the door. The Concert for George matches emotional pitch with musical mastery at the highest level. Don't be surprised if the other people in the room with you begin to applaud after every song as they would at a live concert. This is a transcendent piece of art that defies categorization.
Rating: Summary: THE QUIET BEATLE'S MUSIC IS EXTRAORDINARY !! Review: I bought this DVD reluctantly last week not expecting very much and WOW was I surprised. You must own this DVD if you like the Beatles music. The Quiet Beatle's music is absolutely outstanding. I found the filming of this DVD concert also great; different angles and switching from musicians to audience was extremely well done. The recording is purely an audiophile's dream. You must hook it up to a Stereo or Home Theater to really appreciate the sound quality. Matches The Eagles LIVE DVD-"Hell Freezes Over". The musician's in the so called George's band seem to be all moved and extremely into making this concert a success. From Clapton, Lynn. Ringo Starr, Petty Paul McCartney etc. The Shankars also were amazing! Bottom line well worth it at twice the price-I think you will love it too!
Rating: Summary: The Forgotten Love that was George Harrison Review: The Concert for George is a concert from the soul by the performers who knew George best. From start to end you will be moved by the love for George that was exhibited by the performers who gave exactly what they held for George - love. Through his music, George's presence is felt. The songs are performed for the most part that way George recorded them - in this manner, the essence of the songs are not lost. You will be amazed at the remarkable resembalance of Dhani Harrison to his late father [Note to opauly: Dhani Harrison was born 1st August 1978 making his 25-1/2 not 16 years old]- who is just as talented as his late father. Dhani and Jeff Lynne (of ELO fame) have been responsible for most of the editing of material released since George's untimely passing (not this one though). Unfortunately, George is just being recognised as a megastar. Because he craved his privacy, most of his great work was quietly appreciated by his devoted fans. He concentrated on his work rather than the spotlight and because of this, most of it was picked up by devotees before the masses. As of late, his work has come full circle - recognised by the masses. Mirrortime stated to go buy all of George's albums - definitely, the Dark Horse years has just been released as a package. One should sit back listen to George's music and see what the 'quiet' Beatle actually contributed. John and George were the mega talents of the Beatles. Yes, Paul and Ringo are talented, but without Paul's egomania, he would have fallen by the roadside a long time ago. Think - whose old songs are still played - Beatles, John, George, and maybe, once in awhile, Ringo and Paul . By the way, I have been a George Harrison fan since 1964 and he has never disappointed me with his material. Check it all out by date order.
Rating: Summary: Excellent show Review: I loved this DVD. Wonderful tribute to a ledgend. Everyone who was important to him in life came to pay tribute to him with his music. I would recommend this to anyone who loved the Beatles and especially anyone who loved George's music. It is such a excellent tribute to him and his music.
Rating: Summary: You Give Us Love. Review: This is the most beautiful dvd I saw in my life, and I know that is the best I will have forever.
Rating: Summary: The best! Review: This is the best tribute concert I have ever heard and that includes the one for John Lennon. Thanks to all the perfomers it is a moving and exciting concert. Too bad that its reason for being is George Harrison's death. It was erie to see Dhani, Harrinson's son, looking like a young George. I loved Ravi Shankar's loving tribute and how fitting it was. This was a bargain! I could watch it again and again and have seen it many times already.
Rating: Summary: One of the best DVDs Ive ever seen Review: This is definitely one of the most amazing concerts I have ever seen. After a year of George's death, Eric Clapton organized a concert in his honor. But WOW!!! he uses 3 percusions, like 4 guitars, including Harrison's 16 year-old son. The songs are excellent, and the shooting of the videos are really amazing. You SHOULD buy this, if you want to have a complete DVD collection (and I mean it, he was a BEATLE!!!)
Rating: Summary: You'll never get tired watching! Review: Being a Beatle fan since age 5, I always watch & listen to the fab four whenever I can. As their work evolved into something else, I've tuned in...greatly appreciated George's expertise to involve the sitar etc. But this concert provides a lot more. Eric Clapton & the other performers couldn't have done it better!
Rating: Summary: Better than the Best! Review: Concert for George! Forget any whining about Tom Petty's voice, it is remarkable. George's music is recreated to stunning effect and often better than the original versions. Beatles included. What a wonderful deal, two DVD's, including rehearsals, interviews, and alternated angle shots. Nothing left for the bootleggers to mine. The sound quality is second to none, thank you Jeff Lynne. This is the absolute best solo Beatle effort since 1971. Enjoy.
