Rating: Summary: SEE This MOVIE Review: This is an amazing allegory that was engrossing for me as a kid, but will still hold your attention with surprisingly sophisticated jokes hidden for the grown-ups...a great story with a refreshingly original, pleasant animation style.
Rating: Summary: Miles Davis as The Rock Man Review: This prime example of animation with a message should be made available for the current generation - and for those of us who remember the words of the Rock Man: "You gotta open your mind along with your eyes."
Rating: Summary: Please Bring It Back Review: I can't remember when or where I saw the tape available for purchase, I just remember snapping it up so I'd have it for my own children. This movie was so endearing, and enduring, with a definite lesson for all of us, taught gently and thoughtfully through music and script.Recently, I met a fellow afficionado online--desperate for his own copy and begging me to make one for him and send it all the way to Illinois! Won't someone take heed of the need here? I think this current generation of young people would appreciate both the music and the message, as much as they seem to like the "oldies" and retro.
Rating: Summary: Pointed Memories Review: I have such fond memories of The Point. It was on TV over two evenings as I recall. The gentle characters and hummable songs were very uplifting and made me, and my friend Annu, feel that the networks were actually hip to real and meaningful art. There have been few original TV movies since then that have inspired and warmed the spirit the way The Point did back in "the good ol days". You gotta have a point to have a point dig it? Harry Neilson did. But I never knew (or forgot) that Hoffman was part of it. I await the DVD version.
Rating: Summary: One of my fondest memories Review: It touched my heart in the '70's, and not too many movies give me such feelings anymore. I still remember the song, "Me and My Arrow," and I want my whole family to enjoy the awesome art, great soundtrack, and sweet message of being accepted even though you are different.
Rating: Summary: ONe of the few movies ever to REALLY have a point. Review: I was a child when I saw this for the first time. I'm a grown up musician that plays frequently for kids groups. Not only do the kids love the songs... but it's great to see the faces on the adults as they remember and love this beautiful story. I felt I WAS Oblio(a lot of us did) and this is simpley something every kids should see. I hope that the powers that be see so many 5 star reviews and comments and make the video available. I haven't seen it since 1972 and I really want to own it on video. Hey if you are reading this and YOU loved it... please post a review. maybe the more people speaking upa bout how great this fil is will get more copies out there. until I get my copy I'll just sit and "Think about my[sic] Troubles".
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Movie, The Point Review: I believe this is the best cartoon ever made, definitely. The message is very important for kids to learn. My mom bought the record when it came out, and when I was little she played it for me and I liked it so much she got me a tape of it, which I wore out. I still watch it years later, I watched it last week! Every kid should see The Point.
Rating: Summary: The Point of it all Review: I watched The Point for the first time on the ABC Movie of the Week with my dad in 1972. It has been my favorite animated feature ever since. Oblio's trials and tribulations showcase the ignorance of prejudice in a way that doesn't insult or demean. The soundtrack contains songs that even your 3 year old will love, but carry a message that comes home to the adults as well. This is a tale that begs to be told again and again. I know my 3 year old son never tires of it, and I enjoy every time we sit down and watch it the way I did with my dad.
Rating: Summary: Who knew? Review: Who could have known that The Point could have ever been such a success for older people more so than younger? When I was a baby my father had The Point on record and we listened to it at least once a week. I didn't actually see the movie until I was about six years old and for once in my life I saw a movie that was just as good as how I had seen (or heard) it in it's original form. All I can say is that everyone I know that has seen The Point agrees that for some reason it has affected their life forever. Four hundred thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: "The Point" Remains an Absolute Timeless Classic Review: In the early seventies, my sons were still pre-school age and the lessons contained in Harry Nilsson's jewel were the text of how we taught them their early relationships to an often bewildering world. Throughout the years, we'd play the 8-track tape or vinyl record countless times and realized that this little tale was not only wholesomely entertaining for everyone, but withstood the test of time; both musically as well as philsophically. It so desperately needs to be re-released today and promoted in a new television airing. We were all so fortunate to have had this to share with our children almost 30 years ago, it needs to be available once again to everyone!
