Rating: Summary: "America's Band" exposed Review: What a screwed up family, those Wilsons were! This reallyisn't so much a musical biography as it is a spolight on a VERYdysfunctional family. I don't know how much of a "genius" Brian is, but he sure is a survivor. There are a couple of songs on this video, "Loop De Loop" in particular, that are very grating. I couldn't stand them. All in all, this is a fascinating look at a band I never much cared for. I always knew Mike Love was an egomaniac, this bio confirms it. While I don't care for The Beach Biys as a musical entity, I do find their history amazing. Why the five star review? Simple. I've watched it three times already and plan on watching it again. The Beach Boys. The Band You Love To Hate.
Rating: Summary: Overstated harmony... Review: Worth watching for the rich array of audio/video clips and stories from throughout the years. The soundtrack, too, offers some little-known gems such as Dennis Wilson's "Barbara."However, the group's interpersonal "harmony" was overstated from the beginning. In this video, the ever-grandstanding and odious Mike Love gets entirely too much time to thump himself on the back for his "positivity." Bear in mind that Mike Love was the band's principal mouthpiece for Capitol Records' desire that the Beach Boys not "f**k with the formula" by exploring the new dimensions, beyond summer and cars and girls, that Brian Wilson sought in "Pet Sounds" and the aborted "Smile" album, pressure that helped contribute to Brian's breakdown. Mike Love has been coasting on the Wilson brothers' collective genius for nearly forty years now... retire, Mike! (Wouldn't THAT be nice?) I would have liked to have seen more about Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar and other sidesmen who played an integral part in BB history.

Rating: Summary: A "Must Have" for Beach Boys fans! Review: Wow! is all I can say about this DVD! Even a casual BB fan will love this. The documentary footage is superb and the video clips of the boys really make this a great reason to make yourself comfortable on the sofa for the evening and enjoy. The sound quality is great throughout but the bonus surround sound remixes will blow you away, especially "Sail On Sailor" and "God Only Knows". This DVD really makes you appreciate how much hard work and care went into their songs.
