Review: Watching Carpenters over and over makes my homesickness gone . I've been a long time fan ,I love them so much. I was four years old when I can clearly remember my uncle bought an album of theirs and we listened to their song over and over until I memorized the lyrics.In the Philippines ( where I was born) their music and legacy have never forgotten , you could still hear them in the radios all over the country, (while here in america where they were born and became famous seems the radios have forgotten their music, its so sad.) I'm 34yrs old now and I still listened, thanks to Richard Carpenter for re-releasing all their music remastered and even sound as original as ever .I own all their albums including this DVD that I could watch anytime as i want. I recomend this to everyone . Although not everything is in there, still you will love and appreciate what the Carpenters have shared to us, their legacy.......their music.

Review: All Carpenter Fans should purchase this documentary. It is a straight forward look at the Carpenter's rise to the top and their unfortunate end when Karen died. There are no gimics or "dark side" views in this thing. It just shows Karen and Richard's love of making music and how they shared it with the world. And that in my opinion is a good thing. I especially enjoyed the lost footage of Karen and Richard when they were known as the Dick Carpenter Trio and the commercials that they did when they were in Japan. Also their concert at the White House was very entertaining.
Don't expect to get a dvd full of music videos. This is more of a documentary than a Music Album. Even though all of their greatest songs were included, not many of them are the complete uncut song. The only complete songs are "Hideaway" "Ave Maria" and the live version of "top of the world".
The only thing I didn't like about this documentary was the way they kinda ended it sad. I really miss Karen and seeing the end kinda hurt. At first you see a very sunny and beautiful Karen Carpenter singing "close to you" and then it fades into a grey picture where she looks depressed. I also kind of like how they didn't say the word "anorexia" too often and how they didn't show how un-healthy Karen looked before she tragically died.
This documentary made me realize how much I miss Karen Carpenter but besides from being sad, everything else was perfect. I highly recommend this thing.

Summary: Close To You....Can't get enough!
Review: Although some of the dubbing is 70's technology, the Carpenter's are revealed in-depth. Richard's music genious and arrogance, Karen's personality and talent as a singer/drummer, this production takes you inside the Duo's lives. As a Carpenter's Fan, I love it! (as usual). There are good scenes of Karen in the studio, something I can't ever get enough of. It's priceless!

It was more atmospheric and less sensationalistic than the others, for example VH1 and E!. If you want hard or morbid details about her long struggle with anorexia, you won't find them here. What you will find are longer-than-usual musical excerpts from their various TV and concert appearances. Her distinctive voice is the star rather than her tragic story. The ending, in which Petula Clark and Richard Carpenter are shown separately performing the same song, will break your heart.

Review: First I will say that I am only 24 so I obviously did not grow up hearing the Carpenters on the radio. That is why this DVD was helpful for me. I was very curious to learn about the Carpenters and try to get a glimpse of what their lives were like. I really appreciated the fact that Richard had a lot to do with this and personally talked throughout the whole DVD. I absolutely love the Carpenters music and watching this made me love them even more. It is filled with Richard's comments, video "snippets," stories from people that were involved in their lives, radio jingles, commericials and even has their White House concert. An absolute must for your Carpenters collection.

There are a few interviews with other musicians here where they talk about working with Karen and Richard. They played some cuts of their songs and then went into depth about each one. I also found very interesting the part where they talk about how they created their trademark "overdubbing" sound. That's what I am interested in--their MUSIC! There is minimal time spent on their private lives and the morbid details of Karen's illness and when finally presented, it is tastfully done.This is a must have video for any Carpenters fan who, like me, is more interested in The Carpenter's music and careers than in their private lives.
