Summary: hullabaloo dvd vols. 5-8
Review: although the picture quality is not so good (master tapes were no longer available), the digital sound is superb. these series of hullabaloo t.v. shows are far better than the "shindig" vhs special collection series. the shows are well balanced in terms of mixture of guests, dances, songs, skits, background sets versus that of "shindig" which is inferior. the running time of almost 5 hours is worth the price of the dvd and you get to watch well-known hosts who does not only introduce guests but perform, narrates, plays skits as well. each show has a lot of prominent guests and the show is well scripted, well prepared and has a good mixture of song, dances and comedy skits. this collection is a must for the teeny boppers of the 50s and 60s.

Summary: Defective DVDs galore for this title
Review: Caveat emptor with this title. I have tried FOUR separate DVD copies, all shrink-wrapped (but not factory-sealed), from two different sources, and everyone has been defective in the exact same way. It's impossible to progress beyond the main menu screen without the whole thing freezing up and random bits of sound being heard. I keep returning copies and hoping for refunds -- don't know where to lay the blame for this problem, but if I couldn't have evidence that one of these disks played as designed, I wouldn't buy it.

Summary: take a trip back in time!!!!!
Review: I remeber Hullabaloo and Shindig as a kid growing up, It didnt stay to long on ABC. I bought the dvd and was amazed and how good it looked after almost 40 years! And much to my surprise that there was a bonus of another 18 performances, my favorite was the Shangri-las they were great. I hope the put out the rest of the series. Talk about some great memories

Summary: An absolute must if you love the music of the '60s!!
Review: I was just 7 or 8 years old when NBC debuted their version of the "Shindig" series (was too young to watch). Frankly speaking, this show was slightly better because it had almost something for every taste, ranging from "middle of the road" acts to the big rock acts of the period.

Although the original video masters don't exist anymore (shame on NBC), the quality of both picture and sound is great. This was my very first DVD purchase (having just bought a DVD/VCR deck), and I'm glad it had to be a TV classic.

Summary: A little disapointing
Review: I was surprised how weak the picture quality was on this DVD; it seemed much BETTER on video versions I have seen. So it's great stuff, and if the other DVDs have better quality I may keep it in my collection.

Summary: SHAKE IT UP, BABY!!!
Review: Is this cozy nostalgia or just cringeworthy, pimpley-faced bollocks?? The answer lies somewhere in between. It's easy to knock this stuff because of the cheap sets, bad sound and laughable attempts to attain superstardom by some misguided background dancers who were much better off struttin' their stuff than trying to sing. But there's a whole lotta good vibes and good bands here as well. The Stones, The Remains, The Outsiders, The Kingsmen....and hacks like Noel Harrison, Tony and the Tigers (Soupy Sales' kids), the ridiculously inept Patrick Adiarte....but it's ALL GREAT FUN! And the 60s babes...no silicone and no Calista Flockhart anorexic stick-insects...REAL WOMEN, GUYS! Go-Go Chicks the way I remember 'em. Since NBC thought all of this stuff was of little use, the color videotapes of these performances were destroyed and what we have left is black and white kinescopes. But this is a real fix if you are having a 60s fit on a rainy Friday morning. At over four and a half hours of music and smiles on one DVD (7 full episodes and an hour of bonus songs)...YA CAN'T LOSE! Buy it..and dig, Baby!!

Summary: Good shows - bad manufacturing
Review: It won't play in my laptop - and the manufacturer (MPI Video) says "..I've been told by our sales department that most of them do not
play well on Computer DVD's and some do not play at all on them."
Okay I guess, if you never want to play it on a computer system.

Summary: The 60s was not all Woodstock!
Review: Some of this is almost too good to be true: Brian Epstein interviewing Andrew Loog Oldham, the Kinks, the Animals, the Rolling Stones, the Remains, the Zombies, the Beau Brummels, Marianne Faithfull --- it's hard to know whwre to stop! The David McCallum episode alone is worth the price.
Even the bad stuff --- Hullabaloo dancers trying to break into recording, Peter Noone singing Dylan, Frankie and Annette doing the Freddie with Freddie and the Dreamers etc. --- is charming. And kudos to the company for not doing a "highlights" package and giving us entire episodes.
If any part of your youth is in the 60s, you'll want to open a cold beer and press "play". Warning: it's insanely addictive, and you'll end up losing a few hours sleep. A real treat.
