Review: THE GREATEST CONCERT FILM OF ELVIS COMES TOGETHER RIGHT HERE. TO ME HIS STRONGEST PERIOD WAS 1968-70, RIGHT AFTER HIS COMEBACK SPECIAL IN 1968, RIGHT THROUGH LAS VEGAS IN 1970, WHICH IS WHAT THIS IS. THE KING BLASTS OUT ALL THE HITS; HE COMES ROCKIN' TO THE STAGE WITH "THAT'S ALL RIGHT MAMA" AND GOES RIGHT INTO "I'VE GOT A WOMAN," "HOUND DOG," AND "HEARTBREAK HOTEL." ANOTHER SIDE OF ELVIS WE SEE IN THIS CONCERT IS THE FUNNY SIDE -- HIS JOKING AROUND WITH HIS "BABY GUITAR" AND OTHER COMICAL JOKES. IT IS ALL RIGHT HERE, AND SURE, MANY CD'S HAVE BEEN ISSUED OF ELVIS IN LAS VEGAS (SOME OF WHICH I HAVE), BUT IF YOU REALLY WANT TO SEE ELVIS ON STAGE -- NO INTERUPTIONS, NO "WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK," AND BEST OF ALL, NO INTERVIEWS. JUST ONE BIG CONCERT. AND SO PURCHASE IT AND ENJOY THE KING AT HIS BEST, AND THERE WILL ALWAYS BE "GOOD ROCKIN' TONIGHT."

Review: I will keep this brief and to the point. This is the best concert footage of Elvis available! If you like the "Vegas years" (as I do) then this will blow your socks off! Much better than the original version than had so much stupid stuff in it and less concert footage (instead of seeing Elvis on stage, the original would show you the cooks preparing the food!). This is the way it should have been! Buy it!!

Summary: the best glimpse of the magic of elvis
Review: No matter what you may have to hear from [people] that may want to put down Elvis, fast forward this video to Elvis onstage in the now (unfortunately) cliche white jumpsuit, and let the naysayers sit through a couple of songs, then get that naysayer to DENY that ANYONE else in history could have pulled off THAT kind of guts and talent. I defy even the most ignorant Elvis non-fan to deny that ELVIS is the all-time KING after viewing a glimpse of this performance. It's why Elvis will never die. I grew up on Elvis movies, it's what my folks used as the Saturday babysitter, while they went to the officer's club. Thanks Mom and Dad! Elvis was and is the coolest that ever lived. This is a truly pure glimpse of his charisma. Yes, he can be seen a little "loopy" during his practice sessions. So what?

Summary: Great for Elvis Neophyte
Review: I just got this DVD at Christmas time and it was the first audio or video recording of Elvis that I have ever owned... or even sat and watched or listened to. The Elvis mythology is obviously deeply ingrained in our culture and you feel like you know a lot about the King, but I was surprised about how I felt like I was watching something I had never seen before.About the movie: I have to think that this is the best concert footage that exists anywhere of the King. And I like how it starts out with the "behind the scenes footage" that builds up to the concert. You really get to see the human side of Elvis and I really liked the guy. You get the feeling that he always goofed around but movie-producing types back in those days didn't like to show it. The concert footage is amazing. Elvis seems on top of his game and his voice is amazing. About the DVD: I have heard a few comments about the audio not being that great, but I thought that it was fine. It is at least as good as anything else that was filmed in 1970. I have also read that some people didn't like how the film was re-worked since it first came out. I didn't see the original version, but I am not to interested in watching interviews with Elvis-fans, I wanted to see the King himself, doing what he did best. The Patch It Up documentary was fine, it didn't really add a lot - I think that documentaries about documentaries are never going to add much. If I have one complaint about the movie and DVD, it is that they were too short. I would have liked it to be longer - maybe by about 3-4 more songs. This will sound corny, but this DVD alone has really turned me into an Elvis fan. I have gone from not knowing or caring much about him, to wanting to know a lot in less than 2 weeks. I enjoyed the music and singing, but I guess that is what I expected. What I didn't expect is to find out how normal Elvis seemed back stage and what a great entertainer he was on stage. I think that he was the King because he was the King of crowd pleasing. The last thing I want to say is that this movie led me to purchase the '68 Comeback Special and Aloha from Hawaii DVDs. I have only watched them each once, but my initial impression is that I am disappointed. The '68 Comeback Special seems too hokey and tries to cover too many genres of music - psychadelic, gospel, etc. In Aloha from Hawaii, Elvis seems too subdued. Those two DVDs show the Elvis that I was expecting to see before I watched That's The Way It Is. Any way, I will have to review those DVDs separately after I have watched them a few more times. My point in bringing them up here is to say that, by comparison, That's The Way It Is is MUCH better and if you are like I was - you are kind of interested in Elvis and you want to see him at his best - you should start by buying this DVD. Review: This video was fantastic. It is for us oldies that loved him from the start but also for the next generation that is coming up. Most of his work, movies, he wasn't proud of, but this is one that he can be very happy about. It showed him, with his friends, and I use that term lightly since most people, betrayed him, used him, promoted him, but you could see he loved them and still does I am sure. THis shows the vital part of him that lived in these songs he sang. I know to every woman there is a Elvis that is hers, that sings to her, only her, he made us feel that way. It showed a time in his life, when he was in the best physical form, even tho all this performing would take it toil on him in a few short years, in this he was the best, it showed how he new music and did things to songs his way, and made them so much better. This was great, and that is all I know to say except it was AWESOME!! it is truly a video that if you do not own, so you can watch it over, and show it to our children and grandkids, to show where it all started, and the man they always heard about, Elvis Presley.

Summary: I Just Can't Help Disbelieving This Release
Review: I just can't help disbelieving that this new version leaves out "I Just Can't Help Believing" the opening track and greatest song on the "That's the Way It Is" album. I also just can't help disbelieving the way this film butchers the original version as if there was nothing worth while in it except the music! This DVD is a great COMPANION PIECE to the original documentary, but a far LESSER FILM. In fact, it's NOT a film at all! Watching this is like sitting in a room with a person with attention deficit disorder who keeps fast-forwarding a documentary to all the music scenes he likes, letting it play for a while, and fast-forwarding again. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the additional music footage, but why couldn't they just add it to the original film, and leave the film in tact? The original documentary (and I didn't say Music Video) gets FIVE stars. This release gets docked three stars for playing to the M-TV culture of slam-bang action and instant gratification and removing the fascinating context of the original film. Inexcusable and disappointing.

Summary: Amazing view of an artist at work
Review: I just received this DVD from my girlfriend for my birthday. What a pleasant surprise! Rarely do we get to see Elvis in this manner. We get to see the magic that was Elvis, both on and off stage. This guy had star quality to back up his incredible talent. It may surprise you to see just how down to earth this man was despite his enormous fame. The way that the footage was assembled for this special edition gives the viewer the feeling that he/she is right there watching as Elvis and his band rehearse for a concert. There is no commentary or interviews. It's all Elvis, and it's all good. If I had one complaint, it's with the bonus selections mentioned inside the case - I can't seem to find them! There's 18 bonus selections listed. (...)

Summary: I WANT MORE!
Review: I can't wait for all of the concert films to be on DVD. This is a GREAT DVD! Yes it is similar to the original movie (with the exception of the missing songs that the money hungry royalty owners would not allow use of) but it is still GREAT! Any time that you get to see Elvis laid back, is worth the money for the product, be it a video, book, or audio selection. Elvis is in his glory during this film and the re-editing was perfect. I own both the video and DVD versions of this film and I highly recommend the DVD version because you don't waste time rewinding it to see your favorite songs.

Summary: ELVIS - That's The Way It Is
Review: First time I saw this was at the Governor Ritchie Drive-in theater in Glen Burnie, Maryland, late one August night, and have been fascinated with it ever since. You will be blown away by the intensity, energy & moves this guy has. This is the best concert footage available on Elvis. The other documentary filmed two years later, ELVIS ON TOUR (1972)runs a very close 2nd. This video shows Elvis looking, singing, & moving at his best. For many, it is a revalation that Elvis was so trim in 1970 or 72. When you think of Elvis in the 70's, you think of a heavy set performer, but it was only the last couple years of the 70's that he actually became overweight. I will go out on a limb & say this video will convert anyone who is not an elvis fan.
