Rating: Summary: Awesome poetic work! Review: I saw this reedition in theater (there were exceptional projections in France with only one projection by big town!) and I was "blowed" by the sound. Moreover, the story, the humour and the orchestrated track by George Martin are more than poetry!! I have just bought the DVD to keep one of the best film I have ever seen!
Rating: Summary: Is Pepperland a real place? Review: My kids are singing "All Together Now" instead of the Backstreet Boys after we watched this movie together. What a great way to introduce your kids to the Beatles (if you haven't already). I saw this movie when I was 4. Now I'm 35 and it's really an amazing treat. The songs are great. The animation is brilliant and you don't even have to explain the LSD thing. Kids can enjoy it for what it is. I only wish the other Beatles movies were as good as this one.
Rating: Summary: The original version was better than this new imposter. Review: This is one of my favorite movies of all time-and I must say this new version was a total disappointment to me. It is true that each frame reveals new details in the drawings(sometimes too much-you can actually see the marker strokes), but after comparing the two versions sequence by sequence I find this new version almost like an imposter version! It is actually less dazzling, less psychedelic, the colors seem almost muted, less vibrant(probably the digital medium) and what is worse is the inferior recording of the score and also the loss of many vital sound effects. The new score is humorless and flat and the result is that the movie seems flat(I know some people who haven't seen the movie in years and they thought it was flatter than they had remembered it.) The new recording is so stereo that all the dialogue just sort of drones on(it is a much funnier movie than this new version suggests) In short, a less BEATLE-Y movie. I know I'm in the minority but I urge you to hunt down an original version and compare for yourself. Oh yeah, and the new mixes are way inferior to the original mixes (especially Only A Northen Song which has alot of the swirly kind of sound effects mixed down or missing altogether and an out of tune George Harrison vocal that was originally much less conspicious mixed down-that is until this "restored" version)
Rating: Summary: The best animated movie history. Review: I was in high school when the movie came out.A couple of friends and I went to see it on the south side of Chicago. The thearter was built in the 30's and had a balcony. During the entire movie we were smoking pot as if we were at a rock concert. What a great time, great movie!
Rating: Summary: Really trippy but cool Review: I never saw this movie originally since I wasn't old enough when it came out. The transfer seems really good though, esp. when comparing it w/ the clips seen within the documentary.I saw the movie w/ my wife, and about 5 minutes into the show we both looked at each other and thought the same thing: the Yellow submarine has a acid-trip/ pshychedelic/ high on drugs - like quality to it. I guess it reflects the time of when the movie came out
Rating: Summary: Goosebumps all over Review: I took my daughter to the Castro Theater in San Francisco to see the newly re-released "Yellow Submarine". I had goosebumps through the whole thing, especially when the crowd started spontaneously singing the theme song. I almost cried to hear "When I'm Sixty-Four", knowing what happened to John Lennon. An absolutely delightful trip down memory lane.
Rating: Summary: Yellow Submarine RULEZ! Review: Man, this movie is awesome! As a Beatle's lover and merchandise collector, I can say this is one of their bests. Great music, great art, and the soundtrack (which I also own) is terriffic!!!
Rating: Summary: A feast for the eyes and ears Review: O.K., it's been released before but not with all the extras the DVD and CD offer. It sounds and looks terrific, I would suggest adding a little more oomph to your kids Pokeman addiction-this is the film to do it with. On another note the reviewer who saw the Beatles 30 years ago in L.A. must have seen something special, the Beatles stopped touring long before the date your mentioning. Maybe you went to the films opening-your forgiven for having an altered 3 year old memory.
Rating: Summary: Yellow Submarine...finally!!! Review: If any movie needed re-released in a digital, widescreen remix, it was this underated final contractual movie obligation by the Beatles. The DVD is almost flawless...one of the few I haven't been disappointed in. The widescreen picure is superb, and the soundtrack is absolutely stunning. I can't believe the "Hey Bulldog" scene was left out of the original...after all, it was the best song contributed for the project. And "It's All Too Much" really stands out in the new mix...a really nasty guitar sound. A much criticized offering...but, all-in-all, a certainly Beatlish event. If the original members aren't actually present in the production, their spirits and everything they represent certainly are. The final chapter in the psychedelia period.
Rating: Summary: Wonderous! Review: All of you who don't like the film need to remember...this was ground breaking as was the music. This was, perhaps, their way of saying, 'bye bye'.
