Rating: Summary: they were a great band Review: I always new about Jimi Page's brilliance in the studio, but this awesome DVD has shown me that they were also a great live band. I love the stuff from 1970, but what surprised me is how good the stuff from 1979 on disc 2 is. If Bonham hadn't left us who knows what Zeppelin might have accomplished in the 1980's and beyond. Now, lets see some live Rolling Stones from the early seventies get released because although Zeppelin were great nobody can hold a candle to the Stones from 1968 to 1973. I mean that in terms of studio work (Beggars Banqet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street, and Goats Head Soup) and live performance (Get Your Ya Ya's out [Live 1969], the 1970 tour of Europe, 1971 UK tour, 1972 North American tour, 1973 European tour. It's no accident that Mick Taylor was with the Stones throughout those glory years.
Rating: Summary: superb! Review: what can I say? This is an absolute masterpiece! It's like I've died and gone to heaven!
Rating: Summary: What Is And What Should Always Be Review: Nothing slick and prepackaged here. A glorious mix from the days when being a true superstar was to be the anti-superstar. My favorite cuts are when they are at their blusiest best, like "I Can't Quit You Baby".
Rating: Summary: The Mighty Led Zeppelin and The Hammer of the Gods Review: I have seen The Song Remains the Same and was very disappointed in their performance throughout. Never understood how they could be that bad. I wouldn't buy that dvd for a dollar.
This DVD set however is Zeppelin at their best and it was restored with loving care. Don't even think of passing this one up.
Also, make sure you add Unledded/No Quarter with Page and Plant for all the great songs that were not on this 2 DVD set. There are only three songs from this set on Unledded/No Quarter DVD...
Rating: Summary: Disregard the "Daniel Hart" review Review: What this guy, who claims to be a "huge zep fan", does not realize is that Led Zeppelin used many, many instruments in the recording studio. This is why the albums have such a full sound. Jimmy Page pretty much pioneered the technique of "over-dubbing", which allows different music tracks to be layered on top of each other. If you listen to many of the Zep album tracks, you will hear several guitars, bass, keyboards, harmonica, several percussion tracks, and various string arrangements, ALL being played at the SAME time.
When Zeppelin performed in concert, they were restricted to just four musicians to create the live sound. Comparing the studio albums to the live performances is apples & oranges. Daniel Hart is just a clueless moron who is unable to grasp this reality.
Rating: Summary: Another bad live Zeppelin performance. Review: I wonder if they used studio musicians to record the albums. Cause they never sound very good live. Maybe if they stopped hot dogging long enough to remember what they a playing.
I am a huge Zep fan. But I just dont get why they cant sound good live.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: I have to confess, I was as apprehensive as I was excited about this release. The Song Remains The Same, to me, is one of the most boring concert movies ever...and it came out before Physical Graffiti, so there were never and official live versions of that material before.
So, how excited was I when I heard the beginning slide guitar of "In My Time of Dying"????
I have to say the Knebworth set was amazingly potent as well. It makes you sad to think they could have gone on forever if John Bonham hadn't died, and then at the same time glad they didn't have to try and survive the cultural wasteland of the 80's.
I'm really thankful for this set....and completely blown away.
What an amazing and legendary rock 'n' roll band Led Zeppelin was....and they live on in this DVD package.
Rating: Summary: A very happy memory Review: This was for me the concert film of all concerts, I'd enjoyed The Song Remains The Same but this was different. Not only did I get to see and hear the band from its early days i also got to relive the Earls Court and Knebworth Concerts. The quailty of the over head video feed at Earls Court along with the audio feed recreates the feeling of being there, the accoustic set is a memoerable occassion the only problem I have is the echo off the back wall appears to have been removed and that both Page and Plant did use the entire stage Page being the master showman not quite appreciated on film.
There is a genuine feeling of excitement that comes lunging out from the Tv when i watch this section of the film and I sing along to Bron Y Aur just as I did on the night.
Knebworth it was a big field thousands of people there and some good songs missed off the disc Kashmir was and always will be dynamic it was already a close second at Earls Court and on this night was proberbly their finest along with No quarter and since. The songs viewed are ghreat though if you where there another great memory and good to see two outstanding British concerts featured, if you weren't there well its propberbly the best you'll get to see them.
One thing about these two dics if you put disc 2 into your player and press menu you can access a whole lotta easter eggs not mentioned on the cover
Rating: Summary: Zeppelin was the greatest!! Review: Led Zeppelin was the greatest band of all time, and this DVD surely proves it.
