Summary: Well, It Came Out Yesterday...
Review: ...and it truly is as good as I imagined it would be. One of the first things that hits me as I watch it is that this was one FIERCE band, especially in the earlier days. When they were still young and hungry, NOBODY could touch them live. Bonzo and Page particularly were like men possessed (check out "White Summer" and "Moby Dick" particularly). And don't let the fact that they call the TV footage "bonus material" fool you...the TV stuff is (mostly) every bit as revealing and powerful as the other footage...and there is a LOT of it. Heck, even the menus consist of cool old Zep footage you've never seen... The one thing that disappointed me was the fact that they included a performance or two from the film "The Song Remains The Same"....not just different songs from those shows, but the same performances! "Since I've Been Loving You" is exactly the same performance we've already seen a million times (but with slightly different edits). I haven't got the slightest idea why they included it. But considering how much amazingly good material there is in this set, this is only a minor complaint. Without reservation, this set gets 5 stars. Zep lives again.

Summary: What a head rush
Review: Let me just start off by saying you should jump out of your chair and buy this DVD NOW! I have been consistantly avoiding Led Zeppelin's music for over a decade and a half now. Having grown up with it on the radio every day, I had grown tired of it. I can remember playing the Jackson 5 board game with friends at the tender age of 7 while our host's older brother came in with II (on the day of its release)and blasted it on the stereo. It was love at first listen. I must of sung every Zep song at least once in the number of bands I was in growing up, right up to the stuff off of "In through the out door". Although I was on to playing fresher music, I watched Zebra play Zep until 5 in the morning at Hammerheads on Long Island on more than one occasion. But eventually I grew tired of hearing the same studio tracks on classic radio again and again and drifted to newer music and stations that didn't play all the old stuff time and again. After this long hiatus, I was shopping for DVD's yesterday and I decided to pick up a copy this for my sons. Something for me to play for them in the future when they might appreciate it. My God, I just wanted to look at a song or two and ended up listening to a lot in its entirety and a lot of sampling for three hours straight. This DVD is simply amazing. I don't care how cynical or jaded you've become, you'll love this experience. The sound is incredible and the video is better than you might expect. [...]!

Summary: Like finishing dinner and still salivating!
Review: I have probably watched the other stuff (SRtS) hundreds of times over the years. This is like a breadth of fresh air blown into the market at a great time. I was somewhat disappointed, though, that these guys were in New York on the release and I did not find an opportunity to meet them - One of those lifelong dreams. Jimmy - if you see this... thank you for the autograph photo you sent to my son! Anyway.... Get this. Get two or three. Get one for the cat and one or two for the grandparents. Get one for the mailman and meter reader. If you are a Zep fan (and how could anyone not be) - you really need to check this out. God bless these guys. Thanks Jimmy, John, and Robert (and John B.) for the years of great invocation and for pushing the envelope so many times every time they took to the stage!

Review: Simply fantastic. The menus are very cool - some menus are fan shot bootleg footage containing full songs! You can see the band maturing as the DVD progresses and the Knebworth stuff was much better than I'd thought. Plus - Bonzo singing backup vocals! JPJ on Mellotron! (Sadly, no sign of the triple necked acoustic so far though.) Also, witness Page's playing get sloppier as his guitar gets lower over the years! :) The Swedish TV bonus footage is amazing too by the way. The french footage is pretty bizarre - check out the audience. Just buy this. If not for yourself for your kids.

Summary: Reconfirms why Zep are revered as godfathers of heavy metal
Review: Well okay, I've never really considered Led Zeppelin pioneers of metal as much as a seriously heavy blues band, but history has deemed them as much and with good reason. When you consider all the bands that have been influenced by them over the past 30+ years who have either faded into obscurity (Kingdom Come, Fastway ) or have since gone on to fame and fortune in their own right (Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots), it's hard to believe that there once was a band Zep that started it all (for better or for worse). Their sound is such a part of our musical vocabulary that it's easy to take it for granted, and they're easily one of the most influencial bands of all time. This DVD set wonderfully illustrates why their music is as potent as ever. Zep could seriously jam and rock, and I do mean hard. The performances are fresh, exciting, and powerful, and feel like an injection of fresh air especially if you've grown up wearing the grooves out of their studio releases and have grown a bit tired of classic rock radio's overexposure of these tracks. The sound quality and picture quality are excellent, save for a few performances where instruments drop out or jump back and forth in the stereo spectrum from speaker to speaker, as in Page's solo performance of "Black Country Woman". (eliminated if you watch it in stereo rather than surround sound). I found the early performances fascinating, and what's striking about Zep's performances is just how well they could naturally groove and launch into improvisation given how young they were at the time in '68. They were fearless and played with complete abandon, and sometimes they'd miss the mark but most of the time they soared to a level unrivaled. If I had to offer any negative criticism at all it would be in some of the performances of Zep themselves, which could get a bit meandering and drawn-out in lengthy solos/jams. It probably made for an intimate experience at the actual concerts (and a little substance use probably helped too), but it can get a bit dull watching it on DVD. But they are what they are, so this only serves to show how the band progressed and matured over time. Overall, a fantastic overview of one of rock's greatest bands. 4-1/2 stars.

Summary: Finally! Led Zeppelin gets proper live treatment.
Review: I've had a love affair with Led Zeppelin since I was 16. I will be 29 in just a few days and that love is stronger than ever. One thing that always seems to bug my love for the band is the lack of good quality visual and audio material. Led Zeppelin did its best work on stage as they improvised and reworked their classic songs for the concert stage. This two-disc DVD set is the long overdue celebration of one of music's greatest concert attractions. Led Zeppelin DVD is a visual feast for the senses and an audio delight that provides both the hardcore fan and the casual novice a front row seat into hard rock's greatest band. There is much to be happy about including a stunning performance at Royal Albert Hall in 1970. I love the covers of Something Else and C'mon Everybody. The band is on fire and they know it and you can tell that the audience is literally getting off on the band. Concerts of any kind should have a sort of connection between the fan and the artist and Led Zeppelin proved its worth to both the eager fan and the goal of the performer. The 1973 Madison Square Garden shows are known for making up the only previously official live footage and album. The Song Remains the Same has always been average at best but on this DVD set one gets a new look at an old friend. The viewer gets unreleased versions of great renditions of Misty Mountain Hop and The Ocean, which makes one wonder, why they were left off the film when it was released in 1976? The sound is also much smoother than the DVD release of TSRTS film, which I hope, gets the proper remastering treatment one day. Next up is Earl's Court and what can I say but it was like a kid at a candy store. A stunning and intimate acoustic set along with fired up versions of In My Time of Dying and Trampled Underfoot. The viewer also gets one of Jimmy Page's best ever Stairway to Heaven solos giving the now worn out song a look and sound of grandeur. The 1979 Knebworth shows represented a comeback for Led Zeppelin after being away from the concert stage for two years and away from their native homeland for four years. One can really tell that they were both nervous and excited about these shows and it shows in the playing. The viewer gets great versions of Sick Again, Kashmir and Achilles Last Stand. The playing is not quite on the same level of Earls Court or Royal Albert Hall but considering the long layoff shows a determined and passionate band that still had plenty of fuel left in the band's collective hearts. Knebworth deserves praise for a band willing to continue and the bands revamped arrangement of Whole Lotta Love should humble critics who have been far too harsh about these shows.
The extras on both discs are nice including a fine 30 minute performance for Danish television in March of1969 with a nice and rarely played Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. We also get a fascinating NBC interview by a pro Beatles press in which the band commends the fab four while keeping its own goals and ideas that would make them the band of the 1970's. The sound and visual presentation have been handled with care considering this footage is old and was almost unsalvageable. The visuals can be a bit dark with gaps replaced by clever even if mildly annoying bootleg footage. However, its all done with the love and care and big time admiration should go out to Jimmy Page, Kevin Shirley, and Dick Caruthers for providing the final acclaim and a fitting closing chapter to one of music history's greatest bands.

Review: Jimmy got it right on the second try. I finally have a true taste, via sight and sound, of what I never got to see for myself in person. This group was pure magic, electric magic, and this DVD is a thorough capture of the magic that was Zeppelin. The audio quality is superb, bodering on unbelieveable. The songs from Madison Square Garden in 1973 and Earl's Court in 1975 give one an understanding of what true emotion can be derived from music. A whole, uncut version of Black Dog and Since I've Been Loving You. I can die in peace now. For the love of Jimmy, please do not miss this DVD set. Even if you are not really sure you are or were a Zeppelin fan, this will make a believer out of you.

Review: Today is May 27th and I have just spent all evening watching led Zeppelin's DVD release and all i can say is wow.It is well worth every penny spent as you get a complete overview of Zeppelin live from 1969-1979.each concert segment has its own strong points and you get the feeling that zeppelin was one of the greatest bands live and in studio.The 1975 Earl's court concert is my favorite as they do 3 acoustic #'s(going to california,That's the way and Bron y aur stomp)before ripping into a supreme version of "in my time of dying".I could go on and on about it but check it out yourself.You will love it

After viewing this puppy, Instantly, I was hooked. I put disc 2 in because I heard all the hype over the years about the Earls Court concert. I stated with the immigrant song and was blown away. Next, I went to the madison Square garden Concert wich has 2 tracks from the Song Remains the same (wich dissapointed me a bit) but the song The Ocean ROCKED!!! One of my favorites on the entire dvd. In My Time of dying on the earls court was absolutely fabulous along with all the acoustical gigs was also awesome. But Perhaps, my favorite was from the Royal albert hall. Please keep in mind that I have never seen any of this footage besides the Song remains the same, and this albert Hall left me dazed!!
Overall, this is an awesome dvd collection to own with over 5 hours of footage. If you are a Zep fan as I am and have never seen any other footage, you will total enjoy this!! I promise.
