Rating: Summary: Very Nice Review: First of all, the main reason I wanted this DVD was because I wanted to see John Bonham live. That aside, here's the main part of the review:This is a pretty good Led Zeppelin DVD. John Bonham's solo on 'Moby Dick' was incredible, I can't figure out why people say it's boring. The finishing sequences are great too, with Bonham setting his gong and his mallet-head on fire. Jimmy Page has a few great solos, and it's fun to watch him play his double guitar on 'Stairway to Heaven'. However, the fantasy scenes (everything besides the concert footage) were all that kept me from giving this 5 stars. All in all, this is a great example of Led Zeppelin concert footage.
Rating: Summary: Led Zeppelin are amazing live! Review: When I first bought this I had heard that it wasnt that good. Boy Were those people ever wrong, this is one of the best concert films I have ever seen, if not the best! The Musical performance is amazing here. John Bonham is killer on the drums, when I saw them play 'Moby Dick' and Bonham went into that amazing drum solo it blew my mind! John Paul Jones tears of the bass and when he plays the keyboards on 'No Quarter' its so freakin cool! Robert Plants vocals are great like always. Jimmy Pages guitar playing is insane, I was watching them play 'Since I've Been Loving You' and Jimmy has to be one of the top guitar players ever, as if you didnt already know that. The song selection is great! Every song they play is a Led Zeppelin Classic. The film footage is a great touch to an already steller experince. Like during 'The Rain Song' wear Robert Plant is all mid-evil and ridding horses and stuff its really cool! This is one of the best rock and roll films ever made, its almost as good as The Doors, and that is saying a lot!
Rating: Summary: Only for SERIOUS Led Zep fans Review: I saw this movie for a class and, though I consider myself to be very much a Led Zeppelin fan, I thought the movie was terrible. Part of the problem was that this is 1/2 very bad, pretty much plotless movie starring Led Zep, and 1/2 pretty darn good concert footage. What this movie does well is show the amazing showmanship and incredible magnetism of the band, something that may not be evident to those of us too young to have seen them perform. Robert Plant is an amazing frontman and it was fascinating to see the unattractive Englishman with bad teeth (sorry, Mr. Plant) that I saw at the beginning of the movie morph into an amazingly attractive, vibrantly sexual performer by the end. The raw passion of the band is laid bare. A drum solo from John Bonham that lasts (I kid you not) 20 minutes exemplifies my feelings on the movie, because though I found the solo electrifying in short bursts, I was also checking my watch by the end of it. Again, if you're a diehard Led Zep fan, you might like this. I would still suggest you rent it, rather than buy it offhand. If not. . .buy the albums. Enjoy them, because they are phenomenal.
Rating: Summary: Awesome DVD Review: This dvd is the shiznit, if u havent seen it, i suggest you roll up a fat spliff, sit back with a couple friends, and watch this movie!! All zeppelin fans will definitly appreciate this and so will any fan of good rock and roll
Rating: Summary: The Song Doesn't Remain The Same Review: This is a great movie except for a few things. The DVD footage has not been digitally mastered from the original source so picture quality is actually poor compared to what it should/could be. Furthermore the sound on this DVD is not digital surround sound but just digital stereo. These flaws are not Led Zeppelin's fault but Warner Brothers, who just don't seem interested enough to present this film like it should be. So my advice is don't buy this DVD unless you are a dedicated Led Zeppelin fan willing to put up with substandard quality. If you want to see and hear Led Zeppelin like they were meant to be then buy the "Led Zeppelin DVD" instead.
Rating: Summary: I watch it everyday!!!!!!!!! Review: I got this as a Christmas gift from my sister and I have been watching clips of it every day. Don't let people fool you. If you've never seen Zep live you don't know Zep. This movie is so explosive I feal like I'm there. Paige is a wicked guitarist especially his effortless rendition of Moby Dick. Many more awesome performances include "The Rain Song","No Quarter", "Whole Lotta Love" (The antenna thing on the amp is awesome!). I wholeheartedly reccomend it.
Rating: Summary: Zeppelin in it's heyday!!! Review: I lot of people have put this down, but to me it is truly a spectacular show....even with the dream sequences. I just fast forward thru some of them. From what I've read, the crew they hired to film the concert didn't keep the cameras rolling all the way thru some of the songs. So they had to put something in there to take up the space of the missing footage while you heard the song being played. I agree the dream sequences are a bit silly, but it does show a side to each of their personaities at that time in their lives. You have to remember that this was shot in 1973, people...30 yrs. ago! For not having today's technology, you have to admit that it doesn't sound that bad and the picture quality is quite good! I think Jimmy's solos are exceptional! Dazed and Confused does go on quite a bit too long, but that's what made him a legendary guitarist...his improvosational skills were unmatched by any guitarist then, and since, and he does a supurb job of showing that off in this film! The band has enormous energy which is plain to see. Their talent is also unmatched. I highly recommend this film to any Zeppelin fan or really to anyone who wants to witness the best guitar player on this planet and the most talented band that ever graced the face of this earth!
Rating: Summary: If your a Zep fan ; It's great! Review: This DVD improves on the sound quality a little from the vhs version...The concert footage is great considering the year and methods of recording used at the time...Remastering and noise reduction does make some improvement from the original...I personally loved the dream sequences, and: how does a song you like get too long? I liked this almost as much as pink floyd's ,"The Wall." So true fans that know what rock'n'roll and life is all about should love it!!!Life is way too short for miniscule criticisms from those way beyond being experts...Enjoy the good times when they are available, and this is definitely one of them!
Rating: Summary: Funky 9th American Tour Remains The Same Review: MUSIC PERFORMANCE ***** : showcases one of the great improvising rock bands coming off of their best tour ever in terms of spontaneity, instrumental virtuosity, and creativity. 3rd European tour of March 1973 was the apogee of their live musical interaction (e.g. Vienna, Munich, Essen, Offenburg)--although other performances from first leg of thirty-eight city 9th American tour (e.g. May 13th Mobile, AL or May 31st Los Angeles, CA) approached this level, the Zeppelin was in gradual descent from an absolute, towering musical peak when it touched down at Madison Square Garden . . . July 27th, 28th & 29th shows were the final ones of 1973, high points include 'Since I've Been Loving You', 'Dazed And Confused' (hardcore funk fusion!), 'The Song Remains The Same' (great guitar solo half obscured by fantasy footage), 'Whole Lotta Love' (gettin' the funk out), and 'Stairway To Heaven' [along with 'Misty Mountain Hop' and 'The Ocean', available separately on "Led Zeppelin - DVD"]. MOVIE/DVD *** : as clearly explained in the Peter Grant biography "The Man Who Led Zeppelin", this movie was a long, drawn-out project for Jimmy Page & Co. to finish (kind of like Jerry Garcia & Co.'s efforts to finance and edit "The Grateful Dead Movie" with Leon Gast during 1974-1977). Filmmakers Peter Clifton & Joe Massot had shot many hours of Madison Square Garden live concert footage from three separate performances, and were required to cobble together a Feature Film (it's not really a documentary) out of this, combined with fantasy sequences from individual band members, and several extra 'onstage' scenes re-shot at Shepperton Studios, UK summer 1974--one year after the tour had ended. The "most expensive home movie ever made"--according to Peter Grant--was released in fall 1976. In various ways of course, this film - along with other classic 'rockumentaries' - became a touchstone for Rob Reiner's "This Is Spinal Tap" . . . yet, his film retains a certain warm acknowledgment of love for the music which inspired it. The sound is excellent on this DVD, but as another reviewer noted: the 'fake' widescreen matte leaves much to be desired. How about a *remastered*, Special Edition DVD version in *anamorphic widescreen* with *all* of the outtake live performance footage (e.g. 'Celebration Day') as extras? n.b.--Jimmy Page never played a Les Paul Custom [DVD front cover illustration] onstage with Zeppelin.
Rating: Summary: Live Zeppelin Review: There's some good classics like "Rain Song", "Song Remains the Same", "Rock And Roll" performed live. The songs are pretty long but it's still great. Other bands don't dare to play so long songs. Well, the standout track is "Rain Song". There's also movie material, so this is not exactly a live video although the whole material bases on the concert.
