Rating: Summary: Poor..Really Poor Review: Don't worth buying this. You can call this thing (I say thing because it's not worth calling it anything else) a great loss of time and money for producer and custumers.
Rating: Summary: Not just a Mod culture movie... Review: I've seen a lot of reviews up here about how great Quadrophenia stands as a film about Mod culture. It is probably the ONLY major film about the Mods (there are many more on the Rockers). But to me, it is an awesome film adaptation of the Who's electrifying concept album. This one's light years ahead of the film version of "Tommy," it's NOT a musical. It is a perfect teen angst film that captures all the questioning about parents, peers, and fitting in that so many young people face. and it doesn't come on TV too much, so I'd suggest you either rent it or buy it.
Rating: Summary: ¿DID JIMMY DIE IN BRIGHTON? Review: I have seen this movie many times and I never get tired ofit. I believe this is due to me having a "mod heart". I havemany favourite scenes but if I had to choose one, that would be the part in which Jimmy's girl is dancing with another guy and Jimmy changes the music into "My generation" (greater hymn in history).I strongly recommend this movie to everybody who feels young and inconformist. It will change you! PS: I have a fanzine called "El Efecto Oregano" and we have written about "Quadrophenia" before [...] and are looking forward for an special edition based uniquely on Quadrophenia. We want to collect different opinions about the movie from people around the world. So if you'd like to see your "modern" thoughts in paper you can send your text to efecto_oregano@ole.com. ¡we are the mods, we are the mods, we are, we are, we are the mods!
Rating: Summary: Can you see the real me, doctor, DOCTOR! Review: I love this film, I wake up every morning and want to watch it, Phil Daniels plays Jimmy a young mod who becomes dissolusioned by his own lifestyle. The cast list is supreme :Phil Daniels, Leslie Ash, Sting, Toyah Wilcox, Ray Winstone - all of which have gone on to greater things, my favourite moment is when Jimmy jumps of the balcony in the disco. If you havn't bought it, then go out and buy it, If you have already bought it then go out and buy it again, the sheer delight of buying one of the greatest films ever made, will be worth the money.
Rating: Summary: seems about right Review: I wonder why Americans of 2000 would be interested in English working class youth culture of the 1960`s, but still. Quadrophenia is accurate in its depiction of the times & people. I was not a 60`s Mod, thankfully ( as i see it now) about 6-10 years too young, however the scene did not die in the North of England & I picked it up in the seventies with many original Mods still active. Everyone who saw Quadrophenia in the seventies was impressed by its accuracy of detail & it was a hard audience believe me. The spirit of the youth of the time was so well captured, the rebelion & the astonishment of the older generation If you have any reason to wish to know about the Mod culture just get the film. The soundtrack is great & just as a movie to pass the time it is well worth watching. To sum it up, it takes me back a bit ,god my poor mother, sorry mum.
Rating: Summary: quadrophenia Review: this movie is great in my humble opinion. i happen to be a rude girl who didnt know jack about the mod culture until i saw this movie. you dont have to be a "who" fan to enjoy this movie ( i myself is not one), but if your interested at all on this subculture this movie is the one for you. cheers!
Rating: Summary: The Mods Rule, OK Review: A great movie. I mean it, it certainly opened me up to what the Mods were all about. As a Skinhead, I'm very interested in the Mods that influenced us, and this movie seems to be a great way to take a look into the past. Aside from the look and action, this movie tells a great story. Jimmy is a young Mod in London circa 1965, at the hieght of the Mod culture. As the movie goes, we see how Jimmy lives, who he hangs out with, the way he and his mates party, and basically the things that shaped the Mod lifestyle. Unill seeing this movie I had know idea the Who were a Mod band in the beginning...hell, I didn't even know what a Mod was. Actually, you don't have to be a Who fan to like this movie. Although I've always listened to them, usually when they played on my parents Classic Rock station, I never payed attention to them. Since then, I have become a huge Mod and Who fan, among other things. This is a great movie and I recommend it to anybody. Cheers.
Rating: Summary: Helps you understand the album Review: Even though the endings are different in the album vs the movie, still great. English movies are not usually my favorite but I do like this one a lot. Soundtrack is top notch. Well acted. Not boring. Brings you back to the time (1965?), except in one scene, a Who album is shown that was not released until the 70's. Guess I'm a stickler, but that kind of oversight takes away from the movie for me.
Greetings to all the mods in the world!
