Summary: This is the band made for this show
Review: "Behind the Music" was always a hit-or-miss proposition. Either you cared about these people's drug dependency or you didn't. Either they did something outrageous or it didn't work. The Weird Al Yankovic one was particularly dull. Others tended to fall under the weight of the preachy narrator's voice. Sure there were some classics like Henry Rollins narrating the story of Freddie Mercury, or the Boy George episode which was almost exclusively about his unrequited love for his drummer. Sadly the show became boring since the episodes became formulaic. Star begins career hopeful. Star has great hits. Star does stupid things. Star hits the skids. Star gets his life in order for the uplifting last 5 minutes. Star tries to shill new work that pales in comparison to old work.

Motley Crue isn't much different except for one very important aspect. These guys have no shame. The most repentant you're going to get is Tommy Lee saying that shooting up heroin was "kinda messed up" although I think he used a different verb there. These guys drank, shot up and had an amazing time without missing a beat.

Key moment happens when they interview Ozzy Osbourne about their tour together. Ozzy has enough sense to be embarrassed by what he can remember from it. The band doesn't even have that. It's the same story but its the difference between hearing it at an AA meeting and hearing it at a Frat party.

This is one of the truly amazing chapters in rock history - not for what Motley Crue sang or did but how much they admit to loving their past sins.

Summary: The Honest Motley Truth
Review: An excellent documentary on the history of Motley Crue. The quality of the picture and sound is great. The only thing I wish they had done was to remove the editing on this DVD. In the U.S. apparently VH1 is a television show or something, but I've never heard of it in Canada. The editing should have been fine for television, but on DVD, they could have removed the beeps over the foul language and distortion over the nudity.

Other than that this is the DVD to get if you are a Crue fan, or interested in the history of 80/90's metal/rock bands.

This is not a hype DVD like Uncensored or anything like that. This seriously follows the life of the members of Motley Crue. Each member had a great story to tell. Vince Neil's daughter & car accident, the celebrity marriages, drug overdoses, arrests, it's all here, and told honestly.

Summary: A MUST OWN FOR ANY AND EVERY CRUE FAN
Review: Anyone whose seen the VH1 Crue special and liked it, especially Crue fans will gallop over this. The DVD version comes with about 10 minutes extra footage and the video from their Hits CD, the song Enslaved. The only disappointment is no footage or interview with John Corabi. DVD's usually add a mess of unreleased material that is not included for VHS, and it would have been great to seen anything on John Corabi. But this will do, this is the best VH1 BTM available right now for metal, in fact I believe it's the only one.

Summary: Worth the price of admission...
Review: Bassist Nikki Sixx begins by stating bluntly: "We wanted to !@#$ ALL the women and we wanted to snort ALL the drugs." And with that being said, VH1 kicks off its 65-minute raucous Behind the Music profile at the tempestuous lives of four heavy metal rebels that shook the foundation of the L.A. club scene and beyond. Love 'em or hate 'em, Motley Crue is presented here before you in all of their shameful and unsavory glory: from Vince's manslaughter case to Tommy's infamous porno video to Nikki's untimely death and subsequent rebirth. No stone is left unturned, though for true Crue fans some of the anecdotes may seem familiar, having been mentionned on previous documentary compilations such as their Greatest Hits Video release of the 90's. Adding some extra tidbits of footage, such as rare studio out-takes or additional rock star cameos, would have been cool and perhaps may have shed more light on an already dismal picture. But for an amusing albeit sardonic retrospective look back at the hey-days of 80's rock n' roll, this one's worth the price of admission...press play and take a ride on the wildside!

Summary: AMAZING!
Review: Between "The Dirt" and this episode of VH1's "Behind the Music", it's amazing that the boys from Motley Crue have survived to tell their story. Well, in the case of Nikki, he almost didn't survive, as you'll see him tell the story of dying and coming back to life. It's one thing to have read about that in "The Dirt", but to see him and hear him telling the story on this DVD is spell bounding. Nikki is defnitely a fantastic story teller and he is in rare form on this DVD, camping it up for the camera and enjoying every minute of it.

Motley Crue is by far the best of the "Behind the Music" formula: band struggles, band makes it big, band has drug/alcohol problems, band overcomes. The Crue had bigger drug problems, bigger things to overcome and they looked the best doing it all.

Buy this DVD, you won't regret it!

Summary: Motley Crue Tells All...
Review: I've watched this DVD about 5x and this is one of the greatest Behind The Music episodes I have ever seen. Motley Crue takes for a ride on the wild side and tells you everything from the beginning of their lives through the early days of the band all the way up to 1999. They tell you secrets that no fan would ever think was possible. This band did it all, went through it all and lived it all. In addition to buying the DVD, the Crue's tellall book, "The Dirt" should be the next thing to buy from the Crue. The DVD and movie prove why Motley Crue was the most notorious rock and roll band to ever walk the earth. This DVD made me a Motley Crue fanatic. These guys are the greatest.

Long live, MOTLEY CRUE!
