Summary: great concert presented in bad video editing!!
Review: a good concert video presents the artists' talents by showing the right scenes at the right time...as showing the right instrument at the right moment it is being played or going solo. this video does not present uriah heep's talents in to a good show--including ian anderson's performance. when watching the concert, you kinda worry when the camera shifts to someone else while someone else is doing his solo piece--or it even goes into a rehearsal clip. in one song, mick box's complete guitar solo was substituted with a rehearsal scene!! that was a rip...--and bad for mick too.

as a concert--this is one of uriah heep's best so far--but presented with poor video editing and bad camera work!!

Review: Let's face it, I own vinyl of these guys. Long time fan discovers a good dvd of a great band. The only thing that would put this over the top would be either the original band (no longer possible I know) or a slightly better song selection. I'm still glad i purchased it and you will be too.

Review: Uriah Heep "Acoustically Driven"
Recorded live at the Mermaid Theatre London December 12, 2000

This is an unplugged acoustic set from Uriah Heep with special guest Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull on flute) and featuring Uriah Heep Classic Rock Ensemble (string quartet + 3 background female vocalists + pipes/percussion player + Melvin Duffy on pedal steel and slide guitar)

Strings were arranged by Pip Williams and Phil Lanzon.

15 songs are played - from "Lady in Black" ("Salisbury" album 1970) to "Golden Palace" (the last UH studio album "Sonic Origami"), the quality of video and sound is quite good (not very good, though). Some bonus materials are also worth watching - interviews, pictures, etc.

About the concert itself: It is one of the best shows I've ever seen - the air is friendly, the candles are burning, there is a feeling of nostalgia when one recognizes the songs - but they sound different! The band goes truly unplugged and the resulting acoustic and almost classical sound gives a new life to Heep classics - they gain additional warmth, melodiousness and sweetness. Bernie Shaw is at his best - if you close your eyes sometimes you can think that it is David Byron who sings! Ian Anderson's contribution on flute gives the band additional dimension on "Blind Eye" and especially on "Circus".
Melvin Duffy (who was recommended to UH by B.J. Cole himself ("Return to Fantasy", remember?)) is quite good on slide & pedal steel. All musicians are quite excited by what they're doing and pleased with it and I should say that it shows!

Do not miss this! This really is a must-see DVD!
