Summary: A veiw from OZ
Review: Having seen Melissa Etheridge in concert several times Down Under I could not wait to watch this DVD.
I found it to be very raw and full of emotion in absolute Melissa Etheridge style. If you are a true fan of Melissa's you will love this DVD.
Disc 1 The Concert, a celebration of Melissa's music and of the journey that has helped inspire and create this music, is down to basics just Melissa and her guitars. The sound is raw and emotion is high.
Disc 2, gives a small insight into Melissa's behind the scenes life. Not many stars would take a camera into their home. There is also a fairly informal interview where Melissa talks about her thoughts and experiences on Sept 11, plus footage of the tour.
To Melissa THANKYOU for a courageous and BRILLIANT DVD.

Summary: Cant get enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I have seen Melissa in concert many times and often I have wonder what her real thoughts were and now I know. Melissa has helped me through many times in my life. Yet, I must say that a lot of music has but this is the first time I have been able to be one with artist of the music that can make me happy, sad and even cry. I love it. She is so real and not bigger than life as most people would think.Melissa takes you to a concert, on a tour and then allows you to see the real her. Take the time to get this DVD I promise you that you will not be disappointed. Melissa may be Alive but she will never be alone.

Summary: This woman can captivate an audience...
Review: I must first admit that I bought this DVD more for my wife than for me. She's been quite patient with all my purchases of live performances.

With that said, I absolutely loved Melissa's performance. One voice, one guitar and I was hooked. Melissa commands the stage and connects with the audience, at the same time. Not too many artists can successfully do that.

It's a phenomenal performance that is uplifting and emotional. She is a superb song writer and performer. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Disappointed initially, but now I LOVE it !!!
Review: I rediscovered the song "Like The Way I Do" when I was at a friend's house. I hadn't thought about Melissa Etheridge for years and years. I downloaded some of her songs from the internet and decided to buy the dvd (which shows that downloading songs from the internet is not always bad for the artist). Initially, I was very disappointed with my purchase: no drums, no band. I listened for about two minutes and then put the dvd aside. I should have known: Live .... And ALONE.

Weeks later, a Sunday afternoon and nothing to do, I put the dvd in my player and watched the whole show. I just couldn't stop listening, she must be one of the greatest performers alive. I very much liked the interaction with the audience. She seems totally at ease on stage. I haven't heard her performing before, but still I think her voice is not in top condition on this dvd. There are some squeaks and she even mentions that herself in the commentary. There is one in "I'm The Only One" towards the end of the show. She seems to be struggling in this song to bring it to an end. After that she seems to hold back a little (but maybe I'm wrong?). Anyway, I'm going to give this dvd 5 stars because I like the songs, I like the added features and I love looking at her. She is a beautiful woman, though not in a fotomodel kind of way.

Another reviewer said:
"Sincerity can't be faked and it appears Mizz M is tired of hearing about the 'gay' issue ref: the scene where a chick reads a 1 minute script written by a kid who is gay".

I also noticed this. She really faked it and it was very obvious. I think that was charming though.

On the second dvd (Deluxe version) there is a small segment of Melissa Etheridge with the band. People around Melissa Etheridge, please create a second dvd _with_ the band. Or maybe release older material with the band on dvd. I would buy it immediately (region 2 please!).

I would recommend "Live ... and alone" to anyone who has a passion for rock music. If you like Bruce Springsteen you will probably like this dvd. For me, two hours without drums is a little too much, but I stil like it very very much.

Summary: LOVE IT
Review: I saw this tour and now I can have it to watch whenever I want. Melissa is one of my favs and this is why. She is so talented and this DVD captures it, just her and her guitar! The worst is when an entertainer can't change things up, when the concert sounds just like the CD. Melissa changed things up w/ this whole tour. She has proven to be one of the most important women entertainers of our time. This is a must have for any Melissa fan and for anyone who appreciates great rock music. This DVD will not disappoint, she dishes it up and serves it well!

Summary: too much information...but the music ok
Review: I still like the music but i can do without all the baggage of the second cd.

Sincerity can't be faked and it appears Mizz M is tired of hearing about the 'gay' issue ref: the scene where a chick reads a 1 minute script written by a kid who is gay.

I'm happy to return to the 'listening' only version of this artist. I think over the top fan would love the CD but the everyday person might feel it's a little too much to take.

Summary: Why a concert like this?...it's really boring.
Review: I think that Melissa is one of the best female rock and roller's, her music it's very good and her lyrics are even better.
When I first bought this DVD, I never realised that she was going to be on stage totally alone, I thought that the tittle was "Live and alone" because she had broked with her partner, but just that.
She sings in this concert al her hits, such as: "Bring me some water", "I'm the only one", "Come to my window" and "I want to come over" (the only hit missing is the Grammy winner "Ain't it heavy"). You can feel the quality of her voice but the concert was so, so, incredibly boring, I mean, can you imagine being seated for 2 hours listening to a person just singing in sort of "Capella style"?. If I would had been in that concert, I thought I would had stand up and leave the building.
As I say, she's great and her latest album "Skin" is wonderful, actually it's my favorite, but don't waste your money buying this extra boring DVD. I hope the her record company releases someday a real concert of her on dvd.

Summary: incredible DVD
Review: I was browsing through DVD's at Media PLay when I stumbled upon this one. I had always liked her, and figured HEY I GUESS I'LL BUY IT...I got it home, put it in my computer DVD PLayer, with headphones, and was captivated...

She puts so much energy and emotion into her performance..and it really shows here...really really shows...I like her a lot better "LIVE AND ALONE" than with the whole band. It's so raw and pure. It reminds me of what I always loved in rock music.. Shes a true rock icon.

My favorite ones on here are "The Different " (very powerful and fun!), "Please Forgive Me," the last song on the DVD, she puts so much emotion into, I cannot do anything but stare at the screen when this one is on.

"I'm the Only One," is totally totally rocking out, she reminds me so much of Janis Joplin in this one, many good moments in this song, great screams..

I love the WHOLE thing, the backstage footage, EVERYTHING, INCREDIBLE POWERFUL CONCERT!!!

Summary: It's about time!
Review: It's taken years for Melissa Etheridge to put together anything on video or DVD. This was worth the wait.

The performance itself shows off the incredible talent this woman has to pull off live shows.. and to do it on her own, no less. There is nothing worse than plunking down hard earned cash to see a concert only to have the "artist" squawk their way through it, looking lost and pathetic because their "talent" was all manufactured in a studio. Melissa Etheridge is NOT that type of performer. She's got perfect rhythm, a tireless voice and endless emotion. She is engaging and funny, and she will pull you into her energy.

The extras on this DVD are also fantastic. The various moments with Melissa on the road is a LOT of fun. I have watched this several times and never tire of it. One of the bonus songs, "Alive" is not available in any other format which is too bad because it's a GREAT song. However, it's just another reason to pick up this DVD.

Some "concert videos" can be downright boring, but this one really delivers. Obviously, much time was taken to put it together, and it's worth every penny. I highly recommend it.
