Summary: This concert should set the stage on how we rate other artis
Review: I watched this concert on HBO all three times they aired it. It is truly amazing. Janet's performance was incredible. I'm a musician, band leader, writer, producer........etc. To say that I love all kinds of music would be a HUGE understatement. Every time I watch this concert, I'm blown away by how much energy Janet and her whole crew put into the show. All the singers, dancers, musicians, and the audience was so hyped! Plus, the fact that her band got to strut their stuff from time to time, made my day. I also run sound (PA) for bands so I know how incredibly hard it is to mix for a live event. I thought the mix could've been a little better. At times, you can barely understand Janet or her background singers. Some songs are a little clearer than others. However, I can't wait for this concert to come out on VHS, Laserdisc, or DVD. Being the music enthusiast I am, I'lll probably buy all three formats. The overall show was (is) really awesome. Everyone should own it.

Summary: I just wished I was THAT guy!
Review: This video showcases Janet Jackson as the equal of Madonna, Elton John, and any artist that has the big scale concert productions. All the costumes and theatrics are first rate, and why shouldn't it be? There's no need to "kid glove" her, Janet is at the top of her game. I have friends, you know, Aerosmith fans, or others that call themselves rock and roll "purists". They have always laughed at the mention of Janet Jackson as a peer to the Rolling Stones of the world. To each his own, I guess. Who needs them. Janet never needed to go begging for validation.

If you do not have a stereo VCR plugged into a room sound system by now, you can't get the real pleasure of this or any concert video. It's the only way to appreciate the depth of the sound. And finally, what man doesn't envy the guy that was chosen to be the on-stage object of Janet and the girls! I cannot sing "My, My, My" as good as Johnny Gill, but this is as close as any man could hope to get to Ms Jackson. There would have been no hope for me even if I was there at the concert. I would have been in the cheap seats trying to make out which one was Janet.

Summary: simply janet's best concert
Review: the music, the choreography, the book concept, the costumes, the dancing, the singing are all amazing. Luckily I was able to catch the concert when it came to my town and it was the best concert I have ever attended and this DVD helps me relive my memories of the Velvet Rope days. This is for every music lover, and so much better than the All For You in Hawaii DVD.

Summary: Overall, a great concert video
Review: I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I think this video is a must-have for all Janet fans. In fact I'm surprised by the amount of negative reviews on this page. I loved this concert. It is a spectacular production and Janet has total control of the stage. Everything from the set, the song selection, the outfits, the dancing was just irreplaceably good. Her backup band was jammin' throughout the entire show, always making her raw hard-edged dance grooves and slinky slow jams sound just as good as they do in the studio and on her albums. I really wish I hadn't missed the Velvet Rope Tour when it rolled into my city, but this video really is the next best thing. If I have any complaint, it is probably that some of the editing is a little choppy and erratic, but that is the fault of the producers, not the wonderful Ms. Jackson. They should'a spent a little more time on the cutting-room floor before they put all their footage in the can ('Course if I was starin' at hours of videotape of Ms. Jackson's sexy abs, I'd be messin' up too). But all minor descrepencies aside, this video pretty much can't be beat.

Summary: Janet Rules
Review: Even if you're not a Janet fan, you'll appreciate how wonderful she is in concert. She is very athletic, beautiful, and has extremely powerful vocals. Her sets have to be the best in the business, with playful scenes, dark scenes, and even a scene where she brings an audience member on to stage for a special performance. Janet changes outfits so many times, you'd think she pass out from exhaustion, but she keeps on pushing out all those wonderful high/low notes till the end. The sound track is also great, there may be audience roars, but JJ can be heard VERY easily over them; actually, the crowd's yelling is sort of a bonus in that the viewer can see & hear what the audience is feeling about those same pieces (they're always applauding for more). The DVD is well assembled with a great track listing, sound recording, and the video is excellent as well; if you have or haven't seen Janet in concert, it won't matter, because this is a great DVD for the novice and experienced.

Summary: Rip-off of Madonna's Girlie Show Tour (2 and a half stars)
Review: ok, first off, i am a janet fan (not hardcore, but casual)but this concert is such a rip off of Madonna's Girlie Show! The circus, clowns, strippers, masquerade masks, velvet curtains, top hats, women in suits and ties, dark lighting, it was all done in 1993 by Madonna. I do give Janet credit for choosing many of her hits to be in this show. HOWEVER, her songs do not have the same energy when they are performed live as the studio recordings do. For example, her performance of If is so lackluster musically, and it shouldn't have been. That song has so much energy in it, but here it kind of falls flat. Her performace of LEt's WAit Awhile and Again though, was fantastic. very beautiful. the only thing that bothered me was at the end of that perforamce when she took about 10 minutes before she sang the final line of the song. I was like "finish the damn song already!". I was really looking forward to the Throb segment but was really disappointed. I know the song has very few vocal lines to begin with, but Janet barely even tried to sing THOSE! seems llike she was just there while music played. ALSO, WHY DID THE DANCERS HAVE MORE COSTUME CHANGES THAN JANET??? Hellooo. Janet wore the same outfit for the first 40 minutes of the concert while the dancers had at least 4 costume changes. JAnet finally changes clothes for the Escapade medly, but then CHANGES BACK INTO THE COSTUME SHE WAS WEARING FOR THE FIRST SEGMENT! That white collar shirt and black slacks...I've never seen an artist do this before.
Some of the songs are awkwardly placed. Special after Rhythm NAtion is weird...why is she wearing her militant gear for a soft song like Special while pictures of her childhood flash on a screen. it also made me mad when she didn't sing ANY of the choruses for That's The Way Love Goes but instead had the audience sing it. helllo, janet, helllooo! Also, Any Time Any Place is just an instrumental not the whole song, that pissed me off too. The HIGHLIGHT of the show was Rope Burn when she brings that guy onto the stage, that was funny! He was so excited. Poor guy, he probably almost had a heart attack when Janet kissed him.
Anyway, this concert is enjoyable to some extent, i did fast forward thru some parts like Alright, I've never really liked that song. Together Again was pretty weak as well, although i do like the song. Worth viewing once, but pretty forgettable.

Summary: Her first name ain't "Baby"!
Review: It's JANET! And what a DVD this is. Killer sets, great dance numbers (my only complaint is that not all the dancers can be seen all the time, and they're working as hard as Miss Janet. I think more on-screen time next go 'round should be afforded to these talented, energetic individuals.) And Janet sings her heart out - all your favorites, from "If" to a medley of "Control" hits, to a razor-edged rendition of "Black Cat". The emotional song, however, is "What About", with dancers in the background enacting various scenes of violence between men and women, with men being the aggressors. A powerful song, "What About" only speaks more eloquently with its visuals. This DVD is never leaving my collection! Can't wait for Janet's new CD!

(And there is one awesome seduction number in the song "Rope Burn". You know that guy onstage will never forget THAT experience! Turn that track on when you curl up with your honey one evening!)

Summary: it's all about the music
Review: This concert is all about the music and art with a little bit of sex, but after this she became way too sexual in a classless way. Although janet's career is suffering right now, she will bounce back. Hey, even Velvet Rope started out slow and started picking up once Together Again was released, Damita Jo should too once the new single All Nite becomes a hit. So buy this DVD today, it's all about the music

Summary: Janet At Her Best
Review: Before her recent decline from the last couple of years, Janet was sexy but made her performance top priority before showing flesh! True, she was suggestive here as well but nothing like the blantant shows that she makes now.

She performs mainly from Velvet Rope but she also performs a lot of the songs that made her an ICON such as Rhythm Nation, Alright, Love Will Never Do Without You & Black Cat.

This is an electric concert and between this and the Hawaii concert, I would recommend this one the better of the two. Get this to see Janet before her decline.

Summary: Impressed but not Impressed
Review: I was so excited when I found out my DVD made it in the mail. I tore it open and watched it immediately. The real scoop: We all know that Janet is known for her outstanding performing skills, but this performance was not one of her best. Don't get me wrong she is good at it but I must say the the Hawaii concert was a lot better especially costume wise.
