Summary: Classic Yes is the Best
Review: Although this disc has a brief running time and so-so technical quality(for truly horrible picture and sound quality check out the Yes in Philadelphia 1979 DVD), any classic Yes is better than new stuff played by the now-senior citizens Yes. The main disappointing thing about this disc is that only half of 'I've Seen All Good People' is included. 'I've Seen All Good People' is a two-part song consisting of 'Your Move' and 'All Good People.' This disc includes only the second half.

Review: I just picked up the DVD featuring Yes' appearances on musikladen, entitled "Special Editions EP."I would recommend buying this only if you're a hard-core YES fan and you can get it cheap. There's less than 20 minutes of YES stuff on there. Inexplicably, only half of the song "All Good People" appears on the DVD. The video quality is okay - not bad, but not great either. The psychedelic visual effects get annoying after a while as well. Also, while it is remastered in DTS sound, it's not the best DTS I've heard. Fortunately, it was only $10 at Best Buy. It does, however, have video previews of other DVDs in this series and bonus videos by Rick Wakeman (excerpt from Center of the Earth) and ELP, among others.

Summary: Infomercial Flair Disappointing
Review: Much of this "special edition" DVD seemed more like a commercial to sell me more stuff. While the three YES tracks were awesome, there isn't enough footage of the band members acutally playing. The rest of it wasn't really worth watching. Additionally, the design is awkward because you have to start every little thing separately ... no flow.

Summary: Well done early Yes
Review: The core of this dvd is the well known 1969-1971 Yes appearences on German television (Musikladen) containing the songs "No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed", "All Good People" and "Yours Is No Disgrace." The picture quality and the sound quality are impeccable, making this very enjoyable. The past couple of years has seen Yes release a dvd for almost every tour, documenting well their activity in the latter part of the 1990's. There is, however, precious little footage released of the early Yes. What comes across on this dvd is just how aggressive they were in the early days. "No Opportunity" is especially valuable since it is the only footage that I know of that we see Peter Banks, the original guitarist. This version of the song is particularly impressive too. Proves just how much Yes can rock when they want to.
This dvd title is expanded with the same three songs, but presented as "Pop-Up DVD". Obviously taking inspiration from VH1's popular series "Pop-Up Video", you can watch the clips with a running commentary on the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately the comments made are at all witty or clever, but just present basic facts about the history of Yes. The third item is a preview of other dvd eps in the series, presenting thirty second clips of bands like The Who, Deep Purple, etc. And finally there is the DVD Jukebox, containing clips of Rick Wakeman "Reprise From The Forest" from his Jouney to the Centre of the Earth work (and a glorious clip of Wakeman mid-seventies with his long flowing hair and the de-riguer cape!), Emerson Lake and Palmer "The Curse of Baba Yaga" taken from the well know Pictures At An Exhibition dvd, Barclay James Harvest "Mockingbird", and Procol Harum playing "A Whiter Shade of Pale" in a recent performance (it isn't vintage). Overall I'm very pleased with the production. Many Yes fans will already have this material. But for the price and the extras, you definitely get your money worth.

Summary: WARNING: This is the same as "Best of Musikladen" DVD!
Review: The tracks on this DVD are the exact same as on the "Best of Musikladen" DVD, so you don't need both. I would choose this one instead because of the additional Rick Wakeman track from the "Journey to the Center of the Earth" DVD.
