Summary: Brings it home
Review: ...

Okay enough of that -- This tribute DVD let me see part of what was going on, and this DVD truly portrays how much we have come together. And not just America, as it was quite awesome to see Celine Dion sing God Bless America, to see Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz singing along on those secondary hard-to-remember verses of America The Beautiful with Willie Nelson and everyone else. U2 and Sting's performances from abroad. These parts let us know that the whole world was, and is, with us.

All the performances were great, ...... Wyclef Jean was possessed by Bob Marley for Redemption Song. Neil Young's Imagine was superb. Fred Durst and John Rzeznik took a serious note with Wish You Were Here and did a great job. Coming from the heart were Clint Eastwood, Robert DeNiro, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Dennis Franz, Jimmy Smits, Kelsey Grammer, Lucy Liu, George Clooney and Tom Hanks.

This DVD definitely is a keepsake.

Summary: A Moving Concert
Review: All of the performances are great, especially Neil Young's rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine", U2's "Walk On", Alicia Keys' cover of Donny Hathaway's "Someday We'll Be Free", and my favorite one, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers' "I Won't Back Down". Like I said, all of the performances were great, but Tom just tore it up when he sang the lines "You can stand me up at the gates of hell/But I won't back down." Just saying that line made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up; it almost sounded like saying "F--- You!" to the terrorists. I know it's kind of negative, but I rather resolve to do something about it.
Anyway, the performers and performances were appropriate and terrific. May the victims of Sept. 11 rest in peace in heaven.

Summary: Wow!
Review: All the artists on this DVD should be proud. They performed in front of noone and sounded as if they were singing only for the person watching it. I never get tired of this DVD and I am touched every time I view it. Highly recommended even if you are not a fan of every performer. Great performances by everyone involved.

Summary: A somber time capsule with great performances
Review: Although this DVD is almost two hours long, it seems to end too fast.

An all star cast of celebrities weave stories which capture the tragedy, courage & heroism of September 11, 2001 in between a number of great musical performances. Although it's presented in a telethon format, this is a very touching concert and tribute.

The brief stories, which are both tragic and inspirational will bring tears to your eyes while the musical performances are delivered with a somber intensity which vividly captures the essence of the mood of America during this very difficult time.

The musical performances are just awesome. Most of the artists reworked their songs just for this telethon and the result is a creatively touching musical tribute.

Summary: Extremely moving
Review: As a 34 year old man, there will never be (God willing) a more significant, historical event to ever take place in my lifetime, than the events of 9/11. A couple of weeks after that tragic day took place, the telethon broadcast took place. It was carried on many, many channels and surely, the vast majority of Americans watched the program, and contributed to the fund. I cried and cried, as did my wife. While all segments were moving, the images I will always remember were those of Neil Young playing "Imagine" (which sparked a true, sincere spirit of an eagerness for peace everywhere), Tom Petty singing "I Won't Back Down" (which the title alone speaks volumes about this moment), and Julia Roberts honest, warm message prior to introducing an act. Thank you George Clooney for organizing such an amazing, historical event.

Review: As an Australian I also felt the impact of September 11 and was very impressed (and moved) by this benefit. It is a shame that this DVD is not available to the rest of the world.

Summary: Great
Review: At the time of this broadcast, I wasn't sure whether or not it was right for celebs to go directly onto tv to raise money, cause ordinary citizens like you and me were already doing that without people asking us to. I look back on this DVD and CD set and realize that it was probably the best thing to do, even only 10 days after the tragedy. If anything is going t help bring some solace to your heart, and even your mind, this set has the most extensive catalog of healing songs you are ever going to get.

Summary: Tear-jerking and Breathtaking
Review: I believe if there is any item that can truly express the way each and every American felt on the day of September 11th, this collection does just that. President Bush should be proud that we have such phenomenal Americans as these, with such amazing ability and emotion and the ability to deliver in one of the greatest moments of need. All of the performances were flawless and impeccable except for Enrique Iglesias' mediocre performance. Highlights included Celine Dion, Bon Jovi, Alicia Keys, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Dixie Chicks, U2, Bruce Springsteen, and Neil Young. However, Faith Hill's superb and moving performance of the awesome ballad "There Will Come A Day" really brought the house down. All in all, this is a collection that truly proves that we can survive, and that our rebuilding process has already begun. God bless the victims and their families, and God bless America!!!

Summary: Hands down the best telethon concert ever
Review: I bought "A Tribute to Heroes" on DVD and CD. I didn't have to stand in line for two hours, but I would have just to have this great concert.
I just rewatched it again, still the best concert I ever saw on TV. My only complaint is Enrique Iglesias, the first 30 seconds of his song was too mushy and out of character for the rest of the show -- loser. Regardless, I am still amazed at the high quality and diversity of the rest of the show, everything else was 110% talent. When the "worst" performance (other than Iglesias) is Paul Simon doing "Bridge Over Troubled Water" you know you have winner collection. Actually, Simon missed out on my ranking only because he was slightly off key - but who really cares? the emotion still came through - a winner.

Best songs, Springsteen "My City of Ruin" (fantastic!), Neil Young "Imagine" (best choice for a song), Faith Hill "There Will Come a Day" (check out the lyrics you Christians!), Goo Goo Dolls with others "Wish You Were Here" (a killer acoustic version of Pink Floyd with violin?!), Celine Dion (of course) and many more.

Most improved song on the second listen is Tom Petty "I Won't Back Down" -- I was disappointed the first time around because of a certain lack of "punch". I better appreciated the toned down approach on the second listen, although Petty also still gets my vote for "weirdest performance" with Sheryl Crow a close second place in that category. And of course you have great performances by Billy Joel, Dixie Chicks, Eddie Vedder, Dave Matthews, Sting and Wyclef Jean (who wins the Bob Marley sound-alike contest).

Well, what else can I say, I really liked this show. I'll just say it seemed honest, whatever that means. I liked the fact that I didn't know many of these artists and each performance was heartfelt. They say this year is one of the absolute worst ever for movies. Just when it seems like Hollywood "product" has once again triumphed over "quality" you get a concert like this one. Almost restores your faith in the lost art of "artistry" for the sake of art. At the very least it most certainly restored my faith in Americans.
