Summary: EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!!!
Review: Actually, 3 of the 15 vids i didn't care for. BUT, the other 13 are PHENOMINAL. Due to your varying taste for talent and good music, I won't mention which 3 I prefer to pass when I play it.....you'd probably be surprised. To those of you Mtv fans too young to have heard of some of these gems, give em' a chance and get this great DVD. You might find it interesting to map what kind of Artist's started and continued Mtv's journey of popularity. Although i've seen it mentioned that Aqua - Barbie Girl is 90's, I saw it for the first time on this DVD and loved it!

Some years ago, i drifted from Mtv to VH1, and eventually drifted from VH1 to no longer desire cable....too much reality stuff and lack of talent it seems to me, but that's just my opinion. Are we being force-fed so-called talent these days? Who knows!

What I do know is whoever put together this great collection of videos is o.k. in my book. There are still 100's, may even thousands of videos from the 80's I still desire (maybe even some 90's) ... keep making them, the DVD's that is! I'd love to see on DVD with Mariah Carey and Fabolous "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" from the VH1 Vogue fashion award show. Mariah looks really HOT in that performance.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could just call the Mtv VIDEO VAULT at 800 number, or go to website, and compile own selection of vids to put on DVD and order it? If there were a thousand videos, i'd prolly want at least 500 of them. If 10 vids per DVD were the limit, I'd definitey purchase at least 50 DVD's. To name just a few, I'm still looking to purchase DVD's with Billy Idol, Info Society, Corey Hart, Steve Perry, Aretha Franklin, Bananarama, Culture Club, Dead Or Alive, Bronski Beat, etc....the list seems endless!!! But for now I guess I'm stuck purchasing sole-artist compilations (Duran Duran Greatest a great selection i might add).

Summary: A nice, if uneven, collection of videos.
Review: Don't let my three star review fool you: I do like this DVD, it's just an odd collection. It has some classic 80's clips on it, which is the main reason why I bought it. But then, it goes from 1985 to one song from 1990, then a bunch from 1997! Very weird. I wish they would have done one for the 80's and another for the 90's. And the K-Ci & JoJo clip, while a nice song, seems very out of place on this package. My guess is that they tried to license some better stuff, but this is all they could get. The mastering is nice, as are the menus. Some good bio info on each band, although I did notice a few mistakes, which always drives me crazy! It's not hard to properly research this stuff, people! However, I'm still glad I bought it.

Summary: Nice but Odd Collection
Review: It's always great to have music videos on DVD if you are a music video fan since the sound and picture quality are so outstanding. This CD does not disappoint in either area, but MTV's choices for which videos to put on the disc is a bit disappointing. There were many ground-breaking pop videos over the past 20 years that had huge visual appeal and brought something new to the genre like Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf", any of a dozen Michael Jackson or Janet Jackson videos, etc. Instead, we have selections like Smashmouth and Lisa Stansfield, neither of which offers anything that hadn't been ton a hundred times before. Anyway, pick up the DVD if you like most of the artists on it, but it sure isn't what I expected from a "best of 20 years" type of collection.

Summary: pleasant mix for pop lovers
Review: Reasonable mix of hits from the past... sometimes a few songs are added to the confuse people.... i personally like 8 of the songs on this dvd...a few others are rated passable....
The sound quality is good on various tracks specially the British band Chumbawamba... Tubthumping...The great song with lyrics "whisky drink" brings back old memmories of pubs in England blasting this great oldie out... on a saturday night...
This dvd is ok if you like listen to a general mix of different sounds...

Review: Well, everyone has his/her own taste in music. Personally I like the 80's videos here (well, most of them; I always HATED "In A Big Country") but could do without all of the 90's stuff. I agree with the previous reviewers that MTV/Image should have put out one 80's volume and one for the 90's.
The real reason I give this collection only 3 stars, however, is the mediocre production value. The "extras" are very minimal. More importantly, though this disc boasts DD 5.1 sound, it's pretty difficult to tell that anything is coming from the surrounds OR center channel. It sounds like just a little reverb was put in those channels. I purchased this collection expecting to get remixes of some of the big hits of the 80's and instead I got something which sounds pretty much like the cd copies I already have. Perhaps I'm unlike many people, but I can't really WATCH the same video over and over, so the visuals are of secondary importance to me.
I know it is possible to create true 5.1 remixes at this price point: Sony did it for Sade and Cyndi Lauper dvd's, and Silverline is doing dvd-audio remixes of the Capitol/EMI catalog. Why the producers of this package chose to use 5.1 channels but utilized the surrounds and center so poorly is a mystery to me.

Summary: MTV could have done better
Review: Where are all of the great songs from Madonna, Prince, Micheal Jackson, and all of the other artists that dominated pop music in the 80s? Instead of them, we got videos from bands like A Flock of Seagulls and the Thompson Twins. I admit that most of the 80s videos on this DVD were enjoyable to watch, but I would like to see some of the superstars from the 80s on it!

The videos from the 90s were not very good. Why did they choose to put Chumbawumba on this DVD? The videos from the 90s were limited because they were from the late 90s.
