Rating: Summary: Don't be too quick to judge .. there is life after Lindsey. Review: Before the 'Tango In The Night' video I saw the Mirage tour and The Dance, and to be honest I think Tango has just as much energy, if not more than 'The Dance', and the quality of the music beats the Mirage video any day. Although Lindsey Buckingham is extremely talented and impressive on stage, I think that people are too quick to judge Rick Vito and Billy Burnette, who filled his shoes extremely well. Stevie Nicks, is, as said, not entirely the same ... as if she's not really there, or is just trying to pass the time by singing a song here and there. I think this is because of her addiction to Klonopin at the time, which completely stole her mystique and atmosphere, and also her voice was having a pretty rough time, after her cocaine addiction came to an end. However, I think besides her outrageous hair and slightly zoned out appearance, she performed the best rendition of 'Stand Back' of her career, which was full of the energy that you feel from the original version. Christine Mcvie also gives an outstanding performance of 'Isn't It Midnight' and 'Little Lies'. Who cares about phoney close - ups? They're not that bad anyway! Don't miss this out ... it proves that there is life after Lindsey ...
Rating: Summary: This could have been so much better... Review: Everyone likes to talk about how Burnette and Vito aren't "as good" (I'm rolling my eyes here on that one) as Lindsey Buckingham. While I am a Buckingham fanatic, I also love Vito and Burnette's work. The work on this DVD can't be blamed on them, it's just way too over produced. The Stevie closeups are rediculous and what the audience should be seeing is the concert in classic form (like was done for Mirage and The Dance) and that's the biggest drawback from this release. Also, Vito and Burnette's talents were not displayed like they should have been. Still, if you're a real Fleetwood Mac fan, this is a must have.
Rating: Summary: Fairly average. Review: Filmed at the Cow Palace in San Francisco in 1987 when the Mac were touring in support of `Tango In The Night, this hour long concert suffers from over-production, thus losing the `live' feel unlike the Mirage tour 82' concert, Live In Boston and The Dance. Re-filmed close ups of Stevie Nicks will get on your nerves very quickly as has already been said in other reviews. But as poor as the visual side is , there is some real good music to be found. Rick Vito may lack Lindsey Buckingham's presence, he fills in Lindsey's guitar parts very well, in a very `business - like way, backed up by other newcomer Billy Burnette.
1. The Chain: no surprises, Vito holds up the guitar solo well.
2. Everywhere: Great additional guitar parts but too many backstage/rehearsal shots and not enough of the actual performance.
3. Dreams: THE worst recorded performance of this song I have ever heard. Everything sucks. Camera angles, guitar , Stevie's voice and more.
4. Seven Wonders: Better on the album, Stevie's voice is really flat here. Apart from that , it's not bad.
5. Isn't It Midnight - definitely the highly of the concert. Christine's voice is really good, Rick hammers out 2 brilliantly executed guitar solos, way better than the album version.
6. World Turning - tons better than Live In Boston, Rick and Billy shine here. Billy and Christine's vocal are spot on, and it features an interesting solo from Rick showcasing his slide guitar talent. Sadly, then it hits a brick wall with a long and pointless drum solo from Mick that drags on for ages and ruins the song. Advice: SKIP IT!
7. Little Lies : horrible . Album version is way better , the backing singers are so off-key! Rick Vito does his best to salvage the song at the end, but it still doesn't cut it.
8. Oh Well : A very good rendition from Billy Burnette . Lindsey's 1 guitar version is far outstripped.
9. Gold Dust Woman: No real surprises. By the late 80's Stevie had lost her `Gold Dust Woman' electricity.
10. Another Woman: Rick's only lead vocal song on the DVD. He performs it to the best of his ability, but it gets dull fairly quickly.
11. Stand Back: Great intro despite a shaky synthesiser. Another great slide solo from Rick. One of the best recorded performances of the song, which is why it was put on their 1992 Boxset.
12. Songbird: Everything you'd expect. You only see a few shots of Christine actually performing it, the rest is just slow motion backstage shots.
The concert is worth buying just for The Chain, Isn't It Midnight and Stand Back. It would be so much better but for the grossly re-used stage shots and Nicks's close-ups. Oh yeah and you get to hear a shortened version of Don't Stop during the credits. A good buy for big fans .
Rating: Summary: 4 stars only because Stevie Nicks is in it Review: First of all I would just like to say that this is not one of Fleetwood Mac's best performances. And let me just fill some of you confused people out there on something. It did not take two people to fill Lindsay's shoes!!! Have you ever heard of back up musicians?? Fleetwood Mac always has one or two extra guitarist who play in the back ground. Just look at the new "Live in Boston" DVD!!!
Stevie, who is usually always great looks like she was stoned through out the whole show and did not seem to have very much energy at all. You see a big changed in Stevie from this and her Live at Red Rocks dvd filmed just a year before this came out.
I did not mind the close ups of her. She is one of the best looking women on the planet even to this day. I thought it was funny how she changed clothes after almost every song.
Christen McVie was her usuall self. She just stands there at her keybord and sings avarage songs. She had the same outfit on through the whole thing by the way. The other bandmates were okay. Two new members did not impress me that much.
The Chain was okay. Stevie's voice really stood out in this.
Everywhere was way better in the Dance. Stevie again to the rescue, through in some of her own lyrics. With this song, they showed interesting sences from backstage.
This is the worst version of Dreams I have ever heard. What everyone else said about this song is true.
Seven Wonders was pretty good song. It was a little different live with extra music. I am glad it was on here, being one of the hits of the Tango In The Night Album.
Isn't It Midnight, Awesome! One of the best songs on the DVD I wish it sounded like this on cd. Christen shines on this one.
World Turning, Better on the Live in Boston DVD. I liked Stevie's little solo at the end.
Little Lies is a good song on cd, one of my favirots, but is a little boring hear.
Oh Well, This song was okay, not as good as Lindsay can do it.
Gold Dust Woman was great as alway different then on the Dance and Boston dvds. Disapointing how she did not wear her gold dust cape!! The only bad thing in this song vocally is the fact that she did not do her trade mark scream like she dose in Edge of Seventeen, I Can't Wait, or other version of this song
Another Woman, boring as hell never listen past the first minute!
The toned down version of Stand Back was great, I am glad they chose to do Stevies solo smash. The Live in Boston Version was way better though.
Songbird was nice, showing Christens soft side.
Don't Stop was played but was not seen, the credits were roling through it.
I think this DVD was worth it. I don't watch it as much as The Dance or the Live in Boston, both master peices. Fleetwood Mac soldered on with out Buckingham and now with McVie. It would be interesting to see what would happen with out Stevie Nicks, who has alway been the most popular member of this great band
Rating: Summary: An over-all great performance! Review: Fleetwood Mac is the greatest band of all time, with or without Lindsey Buckingham. Rick Vito and Billy Burnette make suitable substitutes.Their performances are classic rock, minus Buckingham's irritating staggering and moaning. Christine and Stevie are also excellent as usual. Highlights include The Chain, Stand Back, and Isn't It Midnight. The video could be longer, it goes by rather quick.
Rating: Summary: Stevie is Queen, Lindsay is missed! Review: Fleetwood Mac is the greatest band of all time. Although Stevie Nicks' voice sounded a bit strained, she was the highlight of the show. Lindsay Buckinghams' absence was a complete blow to the whole concert and Rick Vito and Billy Burnette should have stayed backstage. I found myself fast forwarding through everything they did. Thank god Lindsay has come to his senses and rejoined this timeless and ever-rocking band.
Rating: Summary: Not their best, but still going strong. Review: Fleetwood Mac still sound and look great in their first post-Buckingham tour, but this isn't their best performance. The tape doesn't feel "live" at all; it feels mostly canned thanks to the over-edited videography. Stevie Nick's constant close ups don't help either; they don't fit well with the rest of the footage and are used far too often. She has definitely sounded and looked better. Christine McVie, on the other hand, is at her best. Songbird is sentimental, Everywhere is exciting and Isn't It Midnight shows she can rock out with the best of them.
Rating: Summary: 'Was there in person 12/12/87 at Cow Palace'... Review: Great concert, was there on a saturday, got there before the lights went out. There was a band called 'Chalice',pretty good, only saw there performance for only 2 minutes. Stevie Nicks was great, she changed into a different wardrobe after every song. I do remember the t.v. cameras going up and down the isles, surprised to see this particular concert,at this particular date: Saturday,6:30 p.m.,12/12/87. I fell over my seat when I saw this video for sale. All the classics were sung by Stevie, great concert, you get your moneys worth at there concerts... Video tape list:(1)'The chain',(2)'Everywhere',(3)'Dreams',(4)'Seven wonders',(5)'Isn't it midnight',(6)'World turning',(7)'Little lies',(8)'Oh well',(9)'Gold dust woman',(10)'Another woman',(11)'Standback',(12)'Song bird',(13)'Dont stop'.
Rating: Summary: Fleetwood Mac sans Buckingham (Tango in the Night) Review: I agree with other's who reviewed this album (I have not viewed the DVD). In general, Fleetwood Mac is just another lackluster band w/o Lindsey Buckingham. Only time will tell if they survive the loss of Chiristine McVie. If they ever loose Stevie, I won't even bother to check out the releases of one of my favoites. Good luck, Mick, I'm pulling for you!
