Summary: neil young-as good as ever!
Review: After seeing Neil Young's acoustic tour last year in Boston, I have raved about the show to all fans who weren't there. I was pleased to find a DVD version of this concert for everyone to enjoy. The only negative is that it didn't include all the great old songs he performed that night but about 60 minutes worth of new and a few old. A great "Philadelphia" and "Harvest Moon" alone would be worth buying. The DVD sound is perfect and makes you feel that you part of the intimate audience.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: Excellent sound quality but Neil's performance seems a shadow of his former self.

This is flaccid stuff. Heavy on guitars, light on artistic content. If he was a baseball pitcher he would have hung up his glove, or whatever accoutrements apply, long ago.

Perhaps this is what Bob Dylan means when he talks about technology having outpaced art. Great sound, negligible content.

This is not the spirt of rock, but of rococo.

Summary: Neil shines in this up close and personal concert
Review: For any Neil Young fan, this DVD is THE reason to buy a DVD player. The songs are masterful, yet simple in their arrangement and presentation. Neil is the most influential artist of his time (yes, even considering the Beatles) and this concert shows why.

The visual and audio quality is stunning. You hear every note and breath like you pulled up a chair on stage. The recording provides depth and texture for what Neil is about. I now know that Neil digs his songs as much as I do because I can see it in his face, hear it in his voice, and feel it from his guitar.

One shortcoming of the DVD (not Neil) is that there are few extras on the disk

Summary: This Is What Unplugged Is All About
Review: Have you ever seen Neil unplugged, or wondered what kinda solo show he puts on? Here's your front row ticket then! This will make you want to go to the real thing next time!

Summary: So-so. This is a renter, not a buyer...
Review: I bought this CD and, lo and behold, after a couple of listens it ended up at my used music store. Neil's got a bunch of guitars up on stage and it seems he spends half his time picking up one guitar, doing a song, then digging around through the guitars for the one he wants, and then singing another, then looking around for a while before deciding to go play on a piano, then off again to look for a guitar. Hey, Neil, hire a guitar tech to bring you what you want! Half of this CD is spent waiting on Neil to pick his instrument of choice. The other half is quite enjoyable, but waiting, waiting, waiting...yawn. Someone please wake me when he plays Buffalo Springfield Again...

Summary: Better Than Silver and Gold
Review: I had the pleasure of seeing Neil Young in a small hall setting in Ohio just about two months before the same show was filmed in Austin, Texas. While nothing can replace "being there", this comes as close as one can expect. The DVD picture and sound quality are exceptional; easily the equal of the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over". The singular disappointment here is the running time of just over an hour. I am certain there was an additional 30-40 minutes of performance tape that could have been included. Who makes these decisions; I doubt the artist! Given the cost of DVD's it is almost criminal to truncate a performance like this. However, do not let this keep you from making this purchase. If you want to see a mature artist who qualifies as a genius, this is your opportunity. It does not get much better than this.

Summary: A must see for any Neil Young fan
Review: I have seen Neil Young in concert at least 10 times and this video beautifully captures the experience of his acoustic concerts. Live he is even better than on his recordings. It was nice to hear the song Looking Forward included here. It is a very sentimental song, and feels like it belongs with the others. It was used in the CSNY CD, but not on the Silver & Gold CD. The last song, Silver & Gold was taped and filmed in his studio in 1982 and has a very intimate feel to it. It feels just like you're sitting in while he plays in his own home. I went to two of his acoustic concerts last year, and have been to several others in the past. This video is as close to being there as possible.

Summary: Silver and Gold-Neil Young
Review: I just received a 62 minute Neil Young treasure on DVD. The music(accoustic guitar, harmonica, and piano/organ) is breathtakng with DD5.1 and linear PCM. The picture quality from video tape source is like looking into a clear glass-You're there! Clearly a must-have. His best accoustic work since Harvest-ENJOY.

Summary: Neil Young bares it all
Review: I never quite understood Neil's music until I watched this dvd. It is clear that what this dvd lacks in length is made up in content. The way you get to watch neil oyoung play those songs makes his voice sound more beautiful than it ever was. He defientively has presence, and you get to experience that and all the great songs. The only thing that I regret about this dvd is that I didn't buy it before. New or old tou Young's music this will prove to be touching to anyone who appreciates great music. A must have for all collectors.
