Summary: Excellent!
Review: Although REO's live show doesn't have the same 'magic' as the 80s, it was still exciting to watch them in action on this superb video. I can only assume that the heat made KC struggle a bit with the vocals but the band have fantastic energy together. Bruce tends to shout his way through BOTR but it rocked all the same. 157 was brill and my favourite, Time for Me to Fly was excellent. I would have liked to have seen songs from The Earth...and Building the Bridge albums but I guess they just stuck to the well known songs. Lighting seems to have gone a bit bland but the sound was great. Overall, a fantastic video, one I'll be watching over and over again.

Summary: The Rockin' Allies are still at it, together!
Review: Any fan of Styx and REO should know, these great bands have toured together for a couple of decades. They alternate being the opening act. My wife and I caught them a couple of years ago. REO opened at an outside fair grounds and Styx followed. Just a few minutes into Styx set, a storm blew in and the sound board was "toast". They tried to complete the show, but mother nature wasn't going to allow it. They tried to let the show go on by using the stage monitors and acoustic guitars. Luckily, we were in the front row and could hear them, but no one in the bleachers heard a sound and the band finally conceded that the concert was over.

This is a very good concert, but I felt like they should have made this program a two DVD set, so more of each bands material could have been added. My biggest regret is that Styx didn't get Crystal Ball included. Again, other than not covering more songs, this is a fun DVD to add to your collection.

Summary: INCREDIBLE!!!!!
Review: Arch Allies is Styx at their best! The band's energy is incredible from the first song to the last, and the collaboration between Styx and REO on a couple of both band's greatest songs is spectacular.

At 33 years old, I've been a Styx fan for over 20 years. And I can tell you for certain that Tommy, JY, Todd, Glen, and Lawrence make the best music this band has EVER made in their entire career.

Tommy's ability to connect with people makes the audience feel like they know him personally. JY's towering stage presence cannot be ignored. Todd's drumming is light years ahead of anyone else in the business. Glen provides the band with a fresh sound they haven't had in years. And Lawrence is simply an incredible entertainer with killer keyboard talent.

Summary: Wish I had been there!
Review: Both bands really shine in this concert video. Styx mixes it up with some classics and some newer tunes. The additions of Glen Burtnik and Lawrence Gowan to the band create a great new dynamic onstage. You can see how much these guys love playing together and their energy is infectious.

REO Speedwagon also put on an incredible show. The newly blond Kevin Cronin leads the band through a set of some of their best songs, capped of by my favorite of their set - 157 Riverside Avenue. Kevin really goes off in this one! He really knows how to work an audience. As for Dave, the guitarist - this man can jam! Great solos. All in all - the whole band sounds great.

Then there's a jam session with both REO and Styx. When I heard it on the CD, I imagined that it would have been great to see. The video/DVD definitely proves that. Just wish I had actually been there.

Summary: Great to see the bands, production quality is average
Review: Great energy from both bands. There are a few Styx tunes I really missed (like Crystal Ball), but overall it's a fun DVD.

Why only three stars? The production quality is very average. The sounds quality of the DVD is not great. Compared to the better music DVDs out there, it doesn't stand up. I just never got that "concert" feel.

Summary: AWESOME !!!
Review: Great performance of two of the best bands from the 70's still rocking the arena. It's a must item.
Recommended for both Styx & REO fans :-)
Hope to see a release of Styxworld 2001 tour on DVD soon!!!

Summary: Almost better than being there
Review: I attended the Styx/REO show in Denver this past summer. The show was totally rained out the scheduled night but the bands stayed in town and put the show on the following night. Styx was up first and did a great job, leading off with Everything Is Cool, which is a great opener. All four of us felt ripped off by the REO portion of the show, poor sound and bad seats. I also saw Styx in Vegas in September of '99 and that was by far the best live show I have ever seen.

Now for the DVD. I finally got to hear the REO show and it was outstanding. JY is a great guitar player but Dave Amato is awesome. The energy of both bands was well captured on the DVD. Many complain about Styx not being Styx without DDY, but like everything else, things change. I guess some could say the same about REO without Gary Rickrath.

Enjoy the show, it's time well spent.

Summary: Perfection
Review: I believe what makes for a quality concert DVD are that there are NO interruptions in the performance with clips or interviews, good camera/audio work, and finally a sincere effort from the band. This is a very simple formula. DVD concert producers could take a few lessons from these guys.

Styx & REO Speedwagon Arch Allies: Live at Riverport is about as close to perfect as you can get in every way. To top it all off, the bands were are still in great form and sounded fantastic. This DVD is worth every penny. Pick this one up, you will not be disappointed!

Summary: STYX AND R.E.O. STILL PACK A PUNCH.
Review: I was at Riverport when this concert was played and I tell you it was the best concert I have ever seen. Kevin Cronin may be getting old, but he can still hit the high notes, and Tommy Shaw is still rockin the house. The concert is superbly recorded and the lighting is flawless. Do yourself a favor and add this DVD to your collection.

Summary: Styx/Reo Speedwagon..Still the best.
Review: I was lucky enough to be at the Arch Allies show when it was taped. If you want to see two bands that truly enjoy what they do, then buy this dvd. Styx plays their hits and throws in some of their songs from the Brave New World cd, and even with the replacements, Gowen and Sucherman, they are still Styx. I didn't miss DDY at all. And with Glen Burtnik back with the band, it makes the show that much better. Another bonus is Chuck came to St. Louis to perform with the band. Reo Speedwagon keeps getting better every time I see them. Kevin Cronin still has the pipes to bring you back in time when Can't Fight This Feeling and other songs were on the radio. You can tell that Reo is humbled and proud to still be playing in front of thousands of old and new fans. The jam at the end with both bands is great. Being there and seeing it live was the coolest thing I ever saw. Get a piece of rock history and buy this dvd.
