Summary: It deserves 100 stars! - Rock's nice guys!
Review: If I could give this Journey DVD 100 stars, I would! This may very well be the best DVD I have ever purchased. I collect mostly music-related DVDs instead of movie DVDs: concerts, rockumentaries, musicals, etc. Of the many I own, this one knocked me out! It's not just the sound quality which is superb, it is the feeling that you are right there at the concert with these masterful musicians. I had the oppourtunity to see the "new" Journey recently. I was apprehensive because I've been a fan of Journey since "Infinity." Well, I now own their "Arrival" CD. For those who think there can not be a Journey without Steve Perry, you need to watch this DVD. Steve Augeri is awesome! Yes, we will always love Steve Perry, but let's give the new guy a break - and a listen! He is helping keep the Journey legacy alive! And, he does it with style and great vocal talent. I was in the second row to see Journey. Watching this DVD, I felt like I was in the second row again. What struck me about Journey when I saw them live was how they played to the audience. They connected with the audience. Another thing that impressed me was how nice they are. Yes, nice! (Of course, I am one of those who thinks the rock & rollers of my era - I'm 41 - are the true nice people, the good guys, the honest and down to earth men of the world - instead of the hypocritical evangelists and politicians. Musicians are among the best people who walk the face of the earth!) At the concert I attended, sitting in the front were two young girls, probably around 13 years old, with their mothers - new Journey fans were these youngsters! Steve Augeri and Ross Valory made it a point to smile and wave at them periodically as well as relate to other audience members. Valory is also quite the comedian on stage! Being in the second row, I could witness all of these things. When it came time to give the drumstick to a lucky audience member - Steve made sure he walked over to the side of the stage where the children were, lean over painstakingly and give the screaming new, young Journey fans the beloved prize. I thought, "Wow! What a nice guy!" Later, he stood on the side of the stage signing autographs and shaking hands in the middle of the concert during Journey's instrumental "Kohoutek." I'd never seen this before and was quite impressed! Nice guys - absoutely! And, this also comes across on the Journey 2001 DVD as well as how well they get along as a group and how much fun they have playing together. The "new" Steve, originally from the band "Tall Stories" is obviously humbled and thrilled (and, for the most part, says so) to be with the incredible Ross Valory, Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon. Let's face it! Neal Schon is a very underrated guitarist. Schon rocks! He ranks up there with the greats like Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Peter Frampton. The man sets that guitar on fire! And Cain - well, he is up there with keyboard players like Elton John and Billy Joel. He is absolute perfection on keyboards. You should also check out their solo, instrumental recordings. Such talent assembled on one stage and it is all captured on this DVD. If you love Journey - don't think twice. Just buy this DVD, crank it up and have a concert in your living room. During the concert I saw, Journey did a salute to America. Yes, it was after the horrible events of Sept. 11th. It was probably the most moving tribute I'd seen. Chills went through me. I had those same chills watching this video. I feel music very deeply. I feel the music of Journey way down deep in the inner core of my being. If you are not moved when you hear (and see) their live rendition of "Don't Stop Believing" then I don't know what is wrong with you. I own many concert videos and DVDs. This is my favorite! Incidentally, I saw Journey in a small arena in a small town - Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The rock ensemble didn't seem to mind that they were playing for a smaller audience than usual. Not at all! They played for us as if we were an audience of 50,000 instead of 5,000. Great showmen! Great music! Great DVD!

Summary: Ah the memories ... old and new
Review: Journey videos are quite scarce these days so anything captured on DVD is a major plus for us Journey fans. The performance on this video is flawless. Steve Augeri doesn't miss a note or a beat. The rest of the band is as good as ever. And in case you didn't know, they brought Ross Valory (the comic relief of the band) back. The new face behind the drums is Deen Castranovo of Ozzy Osbourne fame among others. His performance is stellar as well. The overall energy of the concert is outstanding and it is captured well on this DVD. I could have done without the lengthy guitar solo but Neal played as well as ever with all the emotion he is known for. As for the visual side, Steve Augeri is wearing his famous red leather pants and white shirt for this show and that is visual entertainment enough really! But Steve also runs around the stage as if he's 20, revving up the crowd and himself, and it is just a pleasure to watch. Augeri has a great stage presence and charisma as you will see in this DVD. The songs covered are those you would expect and would want to hear. New songs from Arrival are present but the set list is laden with classic Journey tunes. If you haven't seen Journey live recently, buy the DVD to re-acquaint yourself with this timeless music. If you have seen Journey live recently, buy the DVD to relive the memories.

Summary: Journey still Rockin'......
Review: This is a spectacular set worthy of the Journey name. All of the hits and the new songs from Arrival all done louder and in some cases better than ever. Steve Augeri knows his voice and how it fits in a song regardless if its old or new and he shows it staying strong through out not pushing and sounding great even better IMHO than the "Greatest Hits Live" CD released with Perry on vocals. Buy this DVD if you are even a casual Journey fan its money well spent to hear a band doing it this good after many years.

Summary: FANTASTIC SHOW/ ALL JOURNEY FANS MUST OWN
Review: Journey and me go waaaay back. I have loved them from the beginning and followed their career. I regret I haven't seen them live so this was a dream come true for me. I must admit from the get go that I am partial to Steve Perry (I think most of us are, right?) and I do so wish he were singing. However, his replacement, Steve Augeri, does a good job especially on the faster songs. This is a must own for all Journey fans because Neal Schon, Ross Vallory and Johnathan Cain show that time under a true artists belt, only makes them BETTER. Great sound, wonderful enthusiasm, fantastic entertaining show to watch and enjoy many times.

Soar,
Soaring Heart

Summary: Close Enough
Review: If you're a diehard Journey fan, you will certainly enjoy this effort. The quality of the live production far outshines Journey's previous efforts. Sure, Steve Augeri sounds impressively adequate and probably better than Steve Perry would at this point. However, these songs are performed at least a full key lower than the originals and I found myself appreciating Steve Perry's old performances more after hearing Augeri struggle with some parts. Also, Augeri has the stage presence and dance moves of a drunken truckstop stripper. Nobody works a stage like S.Perry did.

Deen Castronovo is a student of the master, Steve Smith. Deen is more than adequate......he kicks a** !! He brings some much needed personality to some of S.Smith's "safe" drum parts. Jonathan Caine's stage presence is as cheesy as ever, Ross is flawless, and, of course, Neal is breathtakingly perfect and raw. He does need to lower his carb and fat intake, though.

Summary: 2nd Rate Perry Clone Takes Away the Power of This Band
Review: I have been following Journey since their inception as a prog-rock/Jazz fusion band in the early 70s, through their rise to superstardom in the 80s. I was very excited, then ultimately let down by their recent "comeback". The new singer Steve Augeri is a 2nd rate Steve Perry clone. In an effort to cash in on past glories, Journey has taken the easy path by recruiting an almost exact replica to replace Perry. Had they found a new singer with a distinctive voice to expore new territory, this might have been a more interesting reincarnation of a once great band. Augeri's limitations become startlingly clear with the blatant use of prerecorded vocals used to augment his limited ability to mimic Perry's sound. The musical performances are lackluster and the true genius of this band, Neal Schon, is never given an opportunity to shine that he deserves. Very dissapointing to this fan of 25+ years.

Review: If you love Journey, you will love this video. The 'new' Steve does a great job. A great show from one of rock's all time best bands.

Summary: Hey I didn't actually watch it.....
Review: Well, I figured since people who have never seen the DVD can review it and give it one star, I thought I throw in a few extra stars to offset their reviews! Come on people, if you haven't seen the DVD and just want to put your two cents in about how you hate the band's current lineup, do us a favor and leave the stars blank!!
