Summary: In Concert Steve Augeri sounds almost like Steve Perry!
Review: As my title says, in concert Steve Augeri sounds almost
like Steve Perry! It is difficult to tell the difference
at times.

Steve Augeri and Dean Castronovo are incredibly talented
individuals that make Journey complete. I hope that the
current band members will continue to make great music
for many years to come.

Summary: Don't put it off any longer, buy this DVD NOW!
Review: Let's get this straight. I was of the mindset that nobody could EVER replace Steve Perry, frontman for one of the greatest rock bands of all time. In fact, even though I thought "Arrival" was a very solid album, it was this mindset that kept me from buying the Journey 2001 DVD. I mean who would want to watch somebody else sing "Perry's" songs?! Sacrilege!

Man was I WRONG. As this concert proves, these weren't Perry's songs, they were Journey's songs, and from start to finish, this is one of the most enjoyable concert DVD's I've watched to date. Terrific musicianship, terrific sound and visuals, thoroughly enjoyable.

Steve Augeri is flat-out fantastic vocally. You are really doing yourself a disservice by getting hung up on how much you think he does or does not sound like Steve Perry. The guy pulls off every song brilliantly and he cohesively blends in with the band, not as a frontman but as an equal. This DVD is all about the music, and let me tell you, the MUSIC IS GREAT.

Summary: Journey 2001 DVD
Review: As with a few American DVD's I've purchased over the internet from the states, I found that the centre speaker sound is all but missing and from this point of view it sounds as though they are singing down a tunnel. Could this be the engineers fault ???
I have others, Eagles, Meatloaf, these are perfect with an excellent centre speaker channel. What on earth is going on. The Journey 2001 DVD is excellent other than for the sound. Is anyone out there experiencing the same problem, please get in touch!!

Summary: Words cannot do this DVD justice
Review: I am a Journey fan of all eras. I bought "Arrival" when it came out last year, and it was definitely my favorite CD of the year. I also saw the band in concert last summer and found their performance nothing short of stunning. I knew that there was no chance that I wouldn't absolutely love this DVD before I bought it, and I was right. Nonetheless, in watching it I was still surprised how good it is.

The reason for my surprise is simple: I have never heard better sound quality on a DVD. I cranked this DVD through my stereo speakers and felt like I truly was at the concert. The production could not be more crisp and clear.

Now to the more obvious part of my review: the songs and performances were all top-notch. This does not look like a band that has been around for nearly 30 years. Steve Augeri for sure brings a youthful energy to the band. He of course sounds great on the new songs he sang on "Arrival", but he also absolutely does all the Steve Perry classics justice.

I hate to say it, but the best thing for Neil Schon was for Steve Perry to leave this band. As the true band leader once again, he plays with a flamboyance that is remarkable considering the number of years he had been doing this. It is so obvious to me that he and this band have a new lease on life. Watch this performance and I think you will agree.

For sure, many of the classics and all of the biggest hits are here. From the rockers like "Stone In Love" to the ballads like "Faithfully" (which was the beautiful, touching way the band closed this performance), the songs are all masterfully performed. Like other reviewers, I am impressed with the inclusion of the rare "La Raza Del Sol".

Bottom line: DO NOT listen to those that say this band is done because Steve Perry is no longer with them. Obviously, he was great and contributed much to their success, but he was not the only important component of the band. Watch this performance and see how great this band still is. The outrage should not be that Journey is going on without Steve Perry, but instead that this band in its new incarnation is not getting the recognition it so richly deserves. If you are a true fan of Journey in particular and classic rock in general, do not give up on this band! And for sure, this DVD comes strongly recommended.

Summary: Disappointing...
Review: I got this along with the Journey Greatest Hits DVD. Of the two, I think the other is better. This disc is lacking in alot of ways. First Dolby 5.1 stinks.. this should've been in DTS.. get with the times! Secondly, all this disc is are the dudes on stage singing. No video clips, no outtakes, no music videos. Just a stage, and a small one at that. After about five minutes you realize that Steve Augeri is no Perry. He can hit the notes, but he needs more training on how to breathe. He can't hold notes and generally seems out of breath. This I can't understand since he doesn't have a fraction of Perry's stage presence. Augeri pretty much just stands there and gives it a shot. Perry used to be all over the stage, and could still belt it out. This Augeri fellow just stands there and still can't breathe right.

After a while, I started feeling like this was a bunch of old classic rock has-beens who are trying desperately not to totally fade out. It's as if they went out, got the closest thing to Perry they could find, and told him to go sing while they salvage their careers.

Mostly I'd say this whole thing is contrived. I think after watching this I agree that Journey should hang it up and send Augeri back to Tyketto. What's a "tyketto" anyways?

Summary: Journey LIVES!!!!
Review: This DVD is what got me back into Journey, after years of having lost touch with my favorite band of all time. I have seen it literally hundreds of times, and it never ever gets old. If you have not seen JOURNEY with Steve Augeri as the lead vocalist, then you have not seen JOURNEY! The band goes on today, rocking better than ever. Thanks to Neal, Ross, Jon, Deen and Steve A. WE LOVE YOU GUYS! Melanie

Summary: Journey Journeys On With A New Lineup
Review: I was so pleased to see that Journey was touring again. In October, 1999, I saw them live and fell in love with the boys all over again. Steve Augieri opened his mouth and the place went wild (Upper Darby, PA). Deen rocked so hard, I thought he would break his drum kit! The DVD was just icing on the cake. I still listen to all of Steve Perry's music, however, Steve Augieri is different and brings a fresh light in to this wonderfully talented group. I still love listening to Steve Smith and his music as well as the original music with Greg Rollie. There's more to life than the same old thing. If you haven't seen or heard the new lineup, you've missed a great experience. This DVD is certainly one you shouldn't miss!!

Summary: ima skeptic too critical of great band
Review: that review was terrible, becuase its the same from so many biased perry fans, first off this is schon's band he formed it in 1973, perry came aboard in 1977, yes he is one of my all time favorite singers, but his ego ruined the band in 1985 firing original bassist ross valory, and the monstorous fusion drummer steve smith what was he thinking as if a band revolves all around the singer i'm here to stick up for the musicians plus cain and shon co wrote all most all of the major big 80's hits with perry, as good as perry was in the band in 1987, he put journey on a hiatus, that lasted until 1996, then his hip is injured, then he tries to play controller again, gets booted out of the band, and something better chemistry wise happens schon hires steve augeri, an excellent vocalist in his own right with a beautiful voice that is very like steve perry's schon knew about augeri since his days in bad english( a very good band also)and said he would hire him if perry did not want to get back with journey, then the other newer man neals good buddy dean castonovo, who played in bad english, and hardline with him on drums, an excellent drummer, who's hero was the man he replaced after smith said unless it was with perry he wouldn't be in the band, so chemistry is important and journey is truly back to the great times, so reminiscent of early journey, as well as 80's journey because they will be only doing 2-3 balleds per record now, on there ep red 13 there is only one balled its called walking away from the edge, its fantastic, much like open arms, and faithfully, the new journey is full of energy I have seen them three times in detroit recently, this dvd is great for fans new, and old, journeys new studio album will be out in early 2005 I belive, buy this dvd, be unbiased see the chemistry no band needs egotistical singers or musicians ruining the band, I'm glad the journey is back, and I am going to ride this one forever. i wish perrys voice would heal, and he would do some solo stuff but that probably is wishful thinking, I enjoy his music solo, but his ego and attitude hurt journey, and its better for the band without him, lousy radio wouldn't play journey with perry, american music is a sexual image, its focused on the young, and its politics are why its hurting caring more about looks, than talent, and great musicianship, keyboard programming, and drum programming is lousy, and will never replace live musicians, because the underground scene will always be a jackpot for the open minded, and musically diverse

Summary: A Classic Band, Underrated
Review: Journey is rock legend, and this DVD proves that the band never belonged to any one member. The music speaks for itself...in fact, it screams into the rock and roll history books whether you like it or not. The classic blues, the rich melodies, the incredible musicianship...all intact here. Mr. Augeri is a commanding force that takes this band boldly into a new era.
