Summary: Great Comeback Performance
Review: ...Well, actually the Moodies never went away... This 1992 performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater (outside Denver, CO) re-established the Moody Blues as a prime touchstone for ageing Boomers; so many of the artists that carried the 60's flame have burnt out, sold out, broken up or, in the most unfortunate cases, died. The Moodies, however, avoided most of the snags that undo older "legacy" rockers and gracefully moved with the times, while still maintaining the heart of their sound. Indeed, their latest studio album ("Strange Times") is their best since the Mellotron era. "A Night at Red Rocks" features most of the tunes that casual fans know as well as a few from their 80's period; played with love and appreciation for the huge and loyal fanbase that's kept them going into the 21st century...Not really needing the money, they keep the spark true. Note: this DVD features more tracks than the "Hall of Fame" (Albert Hall) disc, so it's perhaps a good place to start your Moodies video collection. However, the Albert Hall DVD has better sound and visual "look".

Review: Beautiful music, beautiful lyrics and beautiful surroundings. The concert was done with class and the fans were thoroughly enjoying the show. The Moody Blues carried the same peaceful charm and the message- always the same. What you will interpret is what is your truth! Happy Viewing!

Summary: The "Best" Live Moody Blues
Review: Clocking in with nearly 20 full length songs, this DVD contains the best live recording the Moody Blues have done to date - including the Royal Albert Hall concert. The vocals are much tighter (it was 10 years ago) and the orchestra is fantastic. Given that this is recorded in a natural amphitheater adds much more to the Moody Blues emphasis on spiritual/ethereal music. Unfortunately, this is only dolby sound, as surround sound came much later, but it sure beats anything of that time period. Highlights are "Knights In White Satin" and "Question". Lighting is perfect and the orchestral introduction and Graeme Edge's vocal readings are superb! No typical DVD extras.

Review: I am sorry but when I saw this was coming out on DVD I was ready to put my Laserdisc up for sale.....NOT QUITE....the DVD doesn't hold a candle to thte laserdisc for sound or picture sadly.....why? Ask the folks at Polygram/Universal. Others have speculated that this came from a VHS master..I wouldn't be surprised...the Moodies..were ON this night, the concert is wonderful , but this isn't a show to display your system to friends etc. ALSO...I obtained from the UK another DVD...."the Moody Blues, the other side of Red Rocks" ....85 minutes with interviews....other perfomances from this show and in general a fabulous companion.....NOW if the dolts at Universal had been thinking , they could have added this as BONUS FEATURE material and made the definitive product from this concert....oh yeah, and utilized the digital print used for the laserdisc...

Summary: Next best thing to being there!
Review: I had the privilege of seeing/hearing the Moody Blues in Concert this summer and the Red Rocks video helps me recapture a great experience! They have always struck a unique balance between the symphonic and rock and roll. Multi-talented and gracious to their audience, they continue to give a powerful performance year after year. Vocals are better and stronger than ever with each member showcased well.

Summary: Brilliant music; forget about the hair
Review: I have seen this DVD twice in a few months. it really is the definitive gig for the Moody's. Justin's voice lets him down on Tuesday Afternoon, but his guitar playing is nothing short of brilliant. The boys'hair was part of the fun. Ray Thomas had a Gary Glitter wig stuck on with glue, John Lodge was the archetypal explosion in a mattress factory and Justin Heyward had some cute quiffs. However, the setting was unbelievable. The music was the best of the best. Thoroughly enjoyable and a treat for Moody Fans!

Summary: Great Concert - Fair Sound Quality
Review: I looked at all the comments from the customer reviews and bought this DVD because of them (and in some respects, in spite of them). I agreee that the songs were great and the setting is fantastic. But the sound was disappointing. When I play the Eagles (Hell Freezes Over) DVD and listen to this on my system (Yamaha Reciever and Klipsch surround sound speakers) it is crisp and clean with great sound coming from all 5.1 speakers.
When I then listen to the Moody Blues DVD, the sound has to be turned up considerably and the quality is not even close.
With that said, I still like this DVD and we will listen to it from time to time, but I sure wish I could find another Moody Blues with good digital sound quality. Buy it and enjoy...just don't get your hopes up if you have a quality system and you expect quality sound!
