Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: Anybody who cries because the DVD not being in 5.1 needs to loosen up a little because they're ARE MISSING OUT. This DVD is un-$%@#-believable! A must for any DT fan, the performance is PERFECT, the commentary is insightful and hilarious and the bonus footage is very cool.his DVD was worth every cent it cost, and I would of paid 4 times as much as I did for it.

Summary: Best Concert I have ever seen!
Review: Totally awesome. I just got it and have already watched it twice. This weekend I will have to check out all the bonus footage. These guys show that they are the most talented band out there. For you guys that gave this low scores because it dosen't have Dolby Digital 5.0 surround sound shut up. I can't believe you are complaining about this even though you admit that the concert is awesome.

Summary: Gave me a reason to get a DVD player
Review: I thought the DVD was absolutely amazing. The bonus material was more than I could ever have asked for, and the audio commentary by the band showed me a whole new side of my favorite musicians that I never knew existed. Being an avid Dream Theater fan, this DVD adds more to my collection than anything else from them that I own.

Summary: Fantastic Performance, excellent DVD
Review: There is little that needs to be written about Dream Theater's musical abilities; suffice it to say that this is probably their best live performance ever. The camera work is fantastic - thank God Mike Portnoy directed, because he knows exactly who to show at what time. When Jordan is doing some incredible keyboard work the camera is on him; when Petrucci is doing his usual insane soloing, he gets the spotlight...and there's some awesome usage of split screen views for when everyone is in the midst of a wild instrumental.

Everyone has a fantastic show, and you can see how much they put into their playing...by the end of the second set, Portnoy is hitting himself on the head between riffs just to not pass out. These guys are the finest musicians in rock/metal, hands down, and this DVD shows that they have a perfect balance of virtuosity and performing with emotion. Particularly noteworthy is their performance of The Spirit Carries On, with full gospel choir and duet singing between Jamies LaBrie and Theresa Thompson. Indescribably powerful and moving...during the audio commentary (which is also excellent - entertaining and interesting enough to re-watch the whole concert with it turned on) the band members agree that it was the pinnacle of their musical careers.

Some people have complained about the audio quality because it's not in 5.1 surround. I enjoy surround sound as much as any audiophile, but I have no problem with a 2.0 stereo soundtrack if the audio is crisp. The DVD sounds great on my system, and the mix is very good, so there's no reason to cut any stars because of it.

The video quality is worthy of DVD. I'm personally glad it's in 4:3 pan and scan. Guess what, 99% of the viewing public doesn't have a wide screen TV and won't for the next few years. I'd much rather have a full screen display, and I think most people with normal sized televisions will appreciate it too.

I also happened to like the video clips depicting the story behind the concept album. For the most part were only played full screen during transitions between songs, rarely did they cover up any important musical sections so they weren't intrusive. The video work on these scenes isn't Hollywood professional, but actually has a gritty feel that fit really well in my opinion.

There's also a Ton of bonus footage on this DVD. I'm not giving anything away, but there are many secrets to be found, and well over three and a half hours of footage are captured.

Thanks to Mike and the rest of Dream Theater for this fantastic DVD. A band with their talent deserves to be captured for all to see.

Summary: Greatest DVD ever?
Review: I am truly flabbergasted by the plethora of ignorant, asinine reviews listed below. Frankly, those critics can E M A & B. That said, this DVD is one of the best I have ever seen. Mike did an amazing job on this package and it really shows. The sound quality kicks major hiney, and the performance brings tears to my eyes. Few words can describe the feeling I get when I immerse myself in "The Spirit Carries On," but let me just tell you that it gives me the chills. The bonus material is phenomenal; kudos to the band, Teresa Thomson, and especially to Mike, whose dedication to his music and fans made this DVD what it really is -- a masterpiece.

Summary: Buy this DVD!!!
Review: For lovers of Dream Theater and Progressive Music in general this is a must. It is flawless and is a great value with 3 hours of material contained on the disc.

Summary: Great Performance
Review: When you think of Dream Theater, the first thing you imagine is four masters of their instruments and a "patented" voice box. Dream Theater does hold up to all that I'd imagined from them on this DVD. Right from the opening scene through to "Finally Free" it's a well orchestrated performance with all round brilliance from the guys. John Petrucci is awesome as usual, but to be a bit critical, he does lose it for a while in the "Fatal Tragedy" solo. But to be fair, it just proves everyone's human. Jordan and Mike are mind blowing and so too John Myung and James.I loved this performance. More than "scenes...", it is the bonus live material that makes this DVD a great buy. I'd recommend it to all rock, metal and prog-rock/jazz fans.

On to the presentation. I think they could have done with a little less of the video presentations. While watching the DVD it takes your mind off the music, and thats what I bought the DVD for...the musicianship. This is the reason for my 4 star rating instead of 5, apart from certain technical stuff on the DVD thats real sloppy as pointed out by quite a few people already. All credit to DT for their amazing musicianship and for keeping the flag of rock/metal flying high. Keep rocking!!!

Summary: Undeniably Awesome
Review: I started listing to Dream Theater in 1992. I have yet to find a band that can compare in the caliber of genius that DT demonstrates. This DVD was beautifully done in every aspect. I was excited to see a live version of Change of Seasons in its entirety. The progression of DT and their music is one of the best attributes of the band. I can't wait until their next album. Until then see you Ytsejammers......

Summary: DVD concert without 5.0 Digital surround, poorly made DVD
Review: This DVD is very poorly made. I popped the thing in and was 100% dissapointed. As a huge fan of Dream Theater and knowing that they work so hard for their music, they got extremely lazy on this release. Come on a concert DVD without the Dolby Digital 5.0 surround sound. This is a waste of a DVD and is not worth it. Don't buy this DVD if you dont want to be dissapointed. It made me sad to see Dream Theater slacking of.. I want my money back.

Summary: Dreaming of a DVD
Review: This is a killer DVD. There were a couple of specific items that I did not like. For example, I am into all of that sound system stuff- this DVD is in 2.0 instead of the 5.1 Dolby Digital on normal DVDs (it is just like puting the DVD into your stereo- no independent channel for your sub). Secondly, If you have purchased the SFAM album, you know that there is a storyline. They put the clips of the storyline on the entire tv screen instead of showing JP shredding. The clips were about 5-10 sec in length- they got to be annoying after awhile. (The clips were on the monitors at the concerts). On to the good stuff... The New York show had no opening acts and lots of extras including Teresa Thomason and the Choir, and the Hypnotheripist. DT's playing is phenominal. They play the SFAM record all the way though. In the Bonus material (sorry VHS owners), DT plays Change of seasons all the way through- I have never seen them do this ever (live)! (Only on the Change of Seasons EP) I wish I could give this DVD a 6. I am very satisfied that I can play this over and over without the deterioration of the VHS tape. This is a must for any DT fan.
