Summary: DETROIT SHOW ROCKED!!!
Review: OMG! OMG! This is a amazing tour! I have listened to Madonna ever since I was born and I never really took thaught ino her till My dad bought her Ray of light CD. I was only 9 then so I really really enjoied listening to it. I kept asking If i could go to this concert buy the answer was "NO" so when I seen it commin on TV I freaked. Bening a Madonna loved I had to tape it. Since I have never seen a Madonna concert/ tour ( only I have seen her on the the MTv adwars, grammy, and on TV like videos) My mouth was like dropped to the floor. She put alot of work into this tour and it conpelty sold out. Tickets went to $250 AMERICAN so this is a great buy... for this cheap. It was very good espally when she is doing all the matrial arts. My favorite part is praobly Beautiful stranger and ray of light. I have watched it over and over and sounds really good blasting from my surround sound. Even thought I havent grew up with Madonna in the 80's I will always look up to her and she will alwasy be part of my life. No matter what she has done in the past or what she says or whatever I still Love her. ROCK ON! Today I bought the Girlie show live down under" I picked out it because I looked at the reviews and it looks really good. Even thought I am only 13 and its rated R... well I kno what to expect from Madonna.... Shes and amazing woman I reconmd this to everyone

Summary: Not so much...
Review: There have been tremendous hype over Madonna's Drowned World Tour. And as much as I've enjoyed watching this DVD (and being a huge Madonna fan since 1989), I must say that I have seen her perform a much better live show in previous years (ie. the Blonde Ambition tour). I feel that some of her props this time around seems like a waste (really don't see the point of bringing along the metal bull just for her to ride on 30-seconds), and well.. the dancers seems a bit more boring this time around (although they do sport some interesting hairdos). And the thing with the guitar? It's nice to see her being able to play it, but after playing 5 or 6 songs on the guitar, it's just like.. "Okay, you can play the guitar. We get it. Enough already!". I mean, kudos to her for being able to play the guitar.. but just sing, dammit! And finally, her choices of songs this time around focuses mainly on her last two albums. Although "Ray Of Light" and "Music" contain great tunes, she should not have left out her older songs. She did, however, include her signature song "Holiday" at the end of the show. I'm sure when the music started playing for this, several people will say "Thank God, now, THIS is Madonna!" and start boogeying. But one thing that must be mentioned is how much better Madonna's vocal performance was. You can distinctly hear her voice improvements as compared to her other past shows. All in all, great performance, but she's definitely done better. Thank goodness she's not planning to quit performing concerts just yet.

Summary: Old Hits Drowned Out
Review: Okay, a Madonna event is a significant occurence in pop's calendar & even moreso when the world's biggest musical icon hasn't performed a live! showcase since 1993's wonderful Girlie Show, & has had 2 of her biggest career albums ever in the past 3 years (Ray Of Light & Music). But was the hype & anticipation too much? Over £80 for a semi-decent seat & a rare smattering of shows compared to the fullscale Blonde Ambition Tour, audiences were expecting lots from Madonna. Did she deliver? It's hard to say. It depends on what you want from the show & Madonna has never been one to play by the rules. Forgone are all the oldies, save a reworked version of La Isla Bonita which has no dancability whatsoever & an excellent vamped up show finale for Holiday. 17 years later & it still sounds fresh. The rest of the show lifts off cuts from the last 3 years of Madonna's life, some of which fare very well (Don't Tell Me, Beautiful Stranger, Nothing Really Matters, Impressive Instant, Ray Of Light, Sky Fits Heaven). Others do not (Mer Girl, Don't Cry For Me, What It Feels Like in Espanol & The Funny Song, which is anything but).
Thematically & visually the Drowned World Tour is awkward, sashaying from punk to martial arts & then onto country. The costumes look trashy & the stage setting lacks the elaborateness of previous tours. But maybe it's wrong to compare Madonna to La Ciccone of old. Older, wiser but still at the cutting edge, The Drowned World Tour delivers in that it brings you from a pop music icon a totally alternate show than what was perhaps anticipated, but should have been expected. While recording Ray of Light, Madonna told Kurt Loder that she would like to do a tour comprised entirely of new material. For the most part she has done this. If she wanted to do a greatest hits tour, she would have called it that. Even with that, given the amount of material under Madonna's Gucci belt, it would have been hard to tailor a show that would please all audience attendees. What the tour does demonstrate is that Madonna's latest material has been successful & therefore merits performance, she is still a cultural Maverick & most important of all her voice is better than ever. Inevitable comparisons have been made with Janet Jackson's All For You Tour, which I personally preferred more, as it struck a balance between old & new songs & was a visual carnival. Madonna's Tour is slightly darker, more daring, & in that sense more satisfying. Whatever option the viewer takes when purchasing this DVD is entirely dependent on taste & attitude towards Madonna, but what is clear as day, is that the lady has talent, vision & a heck of a lot of songs

Summary: Madonna Live 2001
Review: The DROWNED WORLD TOUR is Madonna's first tour, since 1993's GIRLIE SHOW. 8 Years is a long span between tours, and Madonna has gone through various career changes in that length of time. The DROWNED WORLD TOUR pays much attention to Madonna's last two albums, MUSIC and RAY OF LIGHT, which are in her electronica phase of her career, but also dabbles in hits from the 80's and early 90's.

The DROWNED WORLD TOUR is a theatrical treat, for the eyes and the ears. The various costumes she goes through, her dancers who also act out scenes during certain songs, Madonna playing guitar on various songs like Secret, La Isla Bonita, etc., are all just few of many highlights of this show.

Vocally Madonna sounds very good, she prepared quite a bit for this show and it shows. Its refreshing to hear an artist at a concert actually SING, as opposed to a show where the artist dances and has pre-recorded vocals or lip synchs the majority of the concert, that's not Madonna, she gives her fans and concert attendees their money's worth.

Overall the DROWNED WORLD TOUR is essential for fans, and anyone interested. Its a very entertaining show, Madonna has created a show that is interesting for the eye, and for the mind as she is indirectly making points and commentary about life in her way, on many songs. This is one of the best concerts I've ever seen, she topped herself on tours like BLONDE AMBITION and THE GIRLIE SHOW. Give it a try, you'll love it!!

Summary: Karen's review of Drowned Word Tour
Review: This is her HBO special, so if you saw that, you'll know exactly what you're getting. Even if you recorded it from TV, I would still recommend buying it for the better sound and picture quality. If you didn't see the HBO special, I think you will be impressed with her performance if you buy it. Even at age 43, she's still the best Diva out there. And so what if most of the songs are from the two most recent albums and she doesn't perform a bunch of oldies. All the oldies were performed at her previous concerts which all on home video as well. It's better she performed a lot of the new songs, because it's something we've never seen before.

Summary: Almost as good as seeing it live
Review: I had the spectacular fortune of seeing Madonna live in Chicago earlier this year. It was the most amazing concert experience of my life. I am happy to say this DVD brings it all home. What we have here is an excellent concert film that captures the excitement of what is surely the highlight of 2001's concert year. It is far superior to the HBO broadcast. The picture quality is pristine, the sound incredible...this is, in short, a DVD I will watch again and again for years to come.

Some highlights: the entire opening scenario: "Drowned World", "Impressive Instant", "Candy Perfume Girl", "Beautiful Stranger", and "Ray of Light"; "Frozen", "Don't Tell Me", "Secret", "Lo Que Siente La Mujer", "Holiday", and, of course, "Music".

Not to be missed and certainly not to be forgotten.

Summary: The next best thing
Review: I am a huge Madonna fan, so it is hard for me to be impartial. But, The drowned world concert is above all the best show Madonna has ever preformed. The DVD is a great experience in sight and sound. I was fortunate enough to see the show live in Philadelphia, but my seats were pretty bad. Watching the DVD I get to see what I could not see from my seats in Heaven. If you missed the show the DVD is the next best thing.

Summary: The PAL Region 2 DVD is a MUST
Review: This is a review of the European PAL DVD of DWT. According to Amazon, the "NTSC All regions" version features only a Dolby 2.0 and a stereo PCM tracks. I am not sure if the NTSC disc is really limited to DD2.0 and stereo PCM, but what I found is that the PAL Reg.2 DVD features two astonishing 5.1 multichannel tracks encoded in DTS and Dolby Digital. The DTS track is absolutely fantastic, one of the finest music DVD I have ever listened to. The recording is so detailed that you can't figure out it's a live recording, and the multichannel mix is perfectly balanced, spacious and effective in delivering a consistent 3D sound field, including some "special" audio effect (like front-to-back panning etc). The Dolby 5.1 track (448 kbit/s) is very very good as well, even if a bit less defined and less rich mainly in the mid-high fequencies.
There is also a Dolby 2.0 track encoded at an unusual 256 kbit/s bitrate, which is pretty fine and detailed, but far less spectacular compared to the multichannel tracks.
Video is rich and detailed in colour, but somehow inconsistent because of the conversion from 60 Hz to 50 Hz, which reduces smootheness of movements: this shouldn't be an issue of the NTSC disc. Of course Madonna's fans must have this disc just because of the perfect performances of the versatile artist, but it must be considered that this DVD is also a perfect a sampler for an home-theater system.

Summary: Well worth it!
Review: I just got my copy the other day and watched it. I don't have HBO like alot of people and haven't been able to afford to go to the concert so this was the next best thing. It was really good and even though I am not her biggest fan, she still puts on a good show. I especially love it when the guys are lowered down by their feet and they are all oiled up..WOOHOO..anyways..I couldn't find any flaw with it. Some people say that because there were no special features it took away from it but I mean in my opinion you get what you pay for.

Summary: DROWNED THE WORLD INDEED!!!
Review: Madonna has outdone even herself - a spectacle and great theatre. The whole concert is in one word - fabulous!!

The song list is somewhat newish to most, however, she can't possibly be singing "Like a Virgin" all the time. Here, listen and watch how she blended the songs. It is really impressive.

Her age is showing, but top marks go to her as a mother of two and still looking stunning, singing and dancing. She has never had a strong voice, her song writing skills come forth here in this concert as she sings strongly. Often with pared down arrangements and we can hear her sing clearly.

The sound, the sets, the choreograhpy and the arrangements are great. Impressive, to say the least. I must say, I am not a great Madonna fan, but credit must be given and I do so here.

Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys too held a guitar and went "unplugged". And the effect is great, sung with certain sincerity, Madonna has certainly come of age. Her delivery is solid enough, not easy for a live performance.

What will she come up with next? A recital with just a quartet or a piano??!! why not??!!

The visuals and dancing are stunning. I don't really know what else to say except that it is really good. A bonus is the Photo Gallery which shows Madonna in different guises.
