Summary: The concert other artists wish they could do
Review: So what if she left out the major hits- was this a farewell tour? Hardly. Who wants to see a 40 year old woman singing songs like "Lucky Star" and "Like a Virgin" anyway? And while, "Like a Prayer" is my all-time favorite single, Madonna seems past that point in her life. Her fascination with the icons of Catholicism have given way to a whole new inner spirituality- and only Madonna could give birth to the many dimensions of meditation on a rock stage.

Visually, this is the most striking thing to witness since Pink Floyd. Who else is doing such intriguing work with stage, lights, costumes and screens?- and this time it transcends the broadway and cabaret-styled shows like "Blond Ambition" and "The Girlie Show". This is the ultimate rock-concert experience. Hard hitting, fast paced, pure art. Don't try to make sense of it. Just experience it.

My only complaint: her voice sounds a little tired in the show which they filmed for this DVD. While Madonna may not be the greatest singer, I've heard her sound better. And she seems a little nervous and tentative perfoming in front of her hometown audience. But, the fact that a woman as powerful as Madonna can be nervous at all, is somewhat endearing.

Summary: Long Live Queen Madge.
Review: From "Drowned World", to "Music", Madonna displays a variety of characters including a japenese warrior, a victim of abuse, a latin diva, and super rock star. This DVD isn't disapointing.

Summary: Impressive
Review: I wasn't that hard core impressed with the first part of the show, with Madonna in a kilt but when the Japanese inspired parts came on, I was blown away. Also what I enjoyed wa sthe incorporation of anime into the stadium performance. I really, really like Janet Jackson but I think that Madonna, ten years older, therefore more seasoned, is really good at designing a show along with the many art directors and so that she must work with. Janet's Hawaii show is more hardcore dancing routines while Madonna's show seems to incorporate themes to be contemplated on. I imagine that in 10 years time, Janet will be doing much the same. Overall a great show and it's a kick that ROsie O'Donnell took the cover pic while at the concert.

Summary: MADDY JUST KEEPS GOING, AND GOING, AND GOING...
Review: This is a great concert video with a great performance by Madonna, which is no surprise. The big surprise this time around is her musical involvement. Given that she's been criticized for not being a real musician, and while her prevous four tours have been more choreographed dancing, it is a big surprise to see her playing along with the rest of her band - even for only a few songs - and she was positively rocking out on "Candy Perfume Girl" (The verdict on her guitar chops: pretty good, hopefully for her next album - due in April 2003 - she'll play on all of the songs). And playing in front of one's hometown (Detroit) crowd is always a plus. The only drawback of this show is that there's very few of her older songs, concentrating mostly on songs from RAY OF LIGHT and MUSIC, but we all know that Madonna's usually interested with staying current, so she can be forgiven for that. As for the songs, alot of the more subdued songs on disc seem to come alive onstage, as well as the big hit numbers from the last two albums. She also throws in a few surprises: "Beautiful Stranger" from AUSTIN POWERS: THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME soundtrack (complete with an intro clip from the movie and Madonna asking the crowd in her best Austin Powers voice, "Do I Make You Horny?"), a goofball, made-up country song ("The Funny Song"), two tracks from BEDTIME STORIES ("Secret" and "Human Nature"), an instrumental version of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", and a Spanish-sung version of "What It Feels Like For A Girl". She doesn't play alot of her classic 80's material in concert, so it was a treat to hear a beautiful version of "La Isla Bonita" (one of her most underrated songs) and a joyous "Holiday". All of this leading up to the grand finale, "Music", which defintely made the people come together!!! Along the way there's her usual costume changes (I personally like her punk-rock girl look - that's definitely her!!!), stage banter with the crowd (including a goofy, country girl accent for the "Cowgirl" part of the show), choreographed dancing, and of course, her unstoppable energy (she looks great for her 40's, but knowing her, that ain't no surprise!). And this time around there seems to be a more down-to-earth attitude with her, though she definitely hasn't forgotten how to push people's buttons. All in all, a great concert from an untouchable performer!!! LONG LIVE MADONNA!!!

Summary: Very energetic live performance
Review: Madonna never ceases to amaze me. After twenty years she's still got it, and does it better than most new artists out there. Her ability to reinvent herself is astonishing, and this DVD is a great example of that. She gives it her all when she's performing, and the dancers are equally as fun to watch. The stage is always very busy, and at times it's hard to see everything that is going on because there is so much movement. Most of the songs on this DVD are from the Ray of Light and Music albums, so if you enjoyed either of those, get this right now!

Summary: Madonna excels!
Review: Typical of Madonna's stage performances when she is on tour, this show is top notch. Madonna excels throughout this spectacular theatrical like performance that is typical of Madonna. The choreography is nothing less than fantastic and the costumes are well selected. This tour in my opinion is the most intricate and complex stage performance that Madonna has ever done. The most spectacular portion of the show is in the middle section during the geisha set where Madonna performs Frozen and Sky Fits Heaven among other songs. The part of the show where Madonna performs What it feels like for a girl in Spanish is very nice. The least exciting parts of the show is where Madonna sings playing an acoustic guitar to tracks like Secret and Gone. This is the first of Madonna's performances on a tour where she actually plays an instrument. Drowned World is very good and should not be missed.

Summary: Eh....
Review: ...If you are a major madonna fan and love anything and everything she does then this is just more of the same. You probably already own 10 copies of this. Stop reading.

For the casual fan...this show is just "eh". The set list is a bit obscure and the performances are ok, but nothing to rave about. I saw this show several times live during the tour and it definitely was much better live than on dvd/vid. To be honest, this dvd is pretty boring. Once you have watched it once or twice it will get relegated to the back of the closet only to see the light of day again when you put it out at your next yard sale. It doesn't stink, it's just kind of a cold, no improv, stick to what we rehearsed concert. Nothing to make you want to watch it over and over again and it definitely doesn't capture the "live" experience like some concert dvd's do. On the positive side, her singing is fine (if not great) and the choreography is typical top notch Madonna.

Summary: Worth the 8 Year Wait
Review: I saw Madonna live in New York and had the worst possible seat. I could barely see her and the stage, but it didn't matter. She was brilliant.

Being a fan since the start and never seeing her live, this was an unforgetable experience. I was a little sceptical since most of the songs were from RAY OF LIGHT and MUSIC and I didn't know how they would translate on stage but she made those songs better and you actually didn't miss her 80's stuff. For those 80's Madonna fans "Holiday"(pure fun) and "La Isla Bonita"(amazing version) are included.

When I purchased the DVD I was amazed by the sound quality and clear picture. I do however skip the Japanese cartoon which can be offensive to some. Extra feature are scarce. A nice inclusion would have been backstage access and "You'll See" which was performed in some venues including New York.

Madonna's voice has improved dramatically over the years. She still doesn't have a great voice, but it doesn't matter it works here. Madonna is a complete package and all who enjoy a good concert will appreciate it for what it is, dramatic theatre and fun. Enjoy!!!!
