Summary: Better than others (and pretty darn good)
Review: I've been critical of Maddie's media lately mostly because I felt that she really skimped on material with CDs and such, but I have to say that this concert is not only has extras in it, it also has to be her best concert -- hands down.

The good: okay, the concert has themes to it. She performs her music in "chunks" of Cowboy, Geisha, Techno and Punk. Aside from the electronics, the lights and the on-screen movies to accompany her performances, one of the more interesting parts of Madonna's performance would be her guitar playing. No kidding. She really can play. She switches between acoustic and electric with obvious practice -- she even performs a lead guitar solo at one point. If she wants to be taken seriously as a musician, she definitely comes across that way. I would not be surprised if more rip-off pop stars start to perform with instruments. The concert itself is by far her best. She sings better, she looks much more like she's enjoying herself and she seems relaxed. Also included in the DVD are options for displaying lyrics, sound quality and a number of photos in a gallery (I'm assuming are her favorites over the years because they're not from the concert -- more from her other videos of past and some publicity photos.) There is a link to connect to as well, mostly connecting to her other websites.

The bad: well, if you saw the HBO performance, you pretty much saw the DVD. There are a few adjustments, such as different camera angles and obviously better sound, but it is the same concert, just higher quality. Why? I'm not sure, but either she was very pleased with the outcome of that performance or she was saving a couple of bucks as well.

All in all, definitely an incredible concert. Top notch.

Summary: "A theatrical representation of my Music" ~Madonna C.~
Review: Inspired on the Kabbalah's Tree of Life and the futuristic novel "The Drowned World" by J.G. Ballard, Madonna's own Drowned World is filled by Punks from London's King's road, consummated Geishas from Kioto, Electronic-carnivorous Cowgirls from somewhere in the west coast,
Apocaliptic Flamenco dancers and Ghettolicious party pimps.
This show is a celebration where the leading charactor finds the truth at the end of each act.
Where each world can't exist within the other.
This is actually one of the most amazing stage performances of this new century, a lot of people that could not understand the complexity of this show filled with not so beautiful but shocking metaphores of life, say that this is not as good as previous tours just because she ain't singing old hits... but why to repeat something that has already been done, when you have amazing new material to perform live for the 1st time!!!... the only boring part of the concert is when she sings her 80's hit Holiday...but even that song sounds fresh and new!! but i can also understand some celebrities who trashed the show as boring like Eminem and Robbie Williams who are way too stupid to undrestand this cathartic show and adding that they had to pay for their tickets..so please don't belive everything you read on newspapers... feel it for yourself and drown in to Madonna's world!!
this is by far...the best show of the 21th Century!!!

Summary: A brilliant, ingenious concert and stage show
Review: Madonna is, without a question, the Mother of Invention as well as Innovation. Her "Drowned World Tour" shows us nothing short of that, intriguingly blending stage spectacles with unique and emotion-driven musical talent. Filmed from her concert in her hometown Detroit (originally aired on HBO), this clearly shows Madonna's ability to grip an audience -- even though the majority of the concert focuses not on her past hits, but on her more current achievements; mainly from her "Ray of Light" and "Music" albums.

Opening with "Drowned World/Substitute For Love" (from her incredible "Ray of Light" album), she appears almost luminously onto the stage with smoke surrounding her. From that point on, we are captivated. Driving full force into "Impressive Instant", a catchy and infectious techno song, Madonna's stage is set with punk-looking dancers with attached lights on their head... Giving a surrealistic outlook that is truly incredible. (And adding to this spice by playing her own guitar during "Candy Perfume Girl".)

Madonna's "Drowned World Tour" then does the set change: after several introductory songs in her "punk set", we are quickly sent to a world of Geishas as Madonna appears adorned in her own interpretation of a geisha that has forty-feet long sleeves waving ominously in the air. Through "Nobody's Perfect" and bolted into her amazing song "Sky Fits Heaven", Madonna suddenly lurches through the air (supported by wire, of course) in an amazingly well choreographed fighting sequence, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"-style.

Following this, her cowboy get-up ignites the stage full-force. With an awesome dance choreography that mixes counytry-style with modern dance, making her "Don't Tell Me" single come to great life. Quickly following, her dancers (as well herself) begin to remove some of their clothes, heading into her slap-in-the-face single "Human Nature", where she gallantly rides a mechanical bull.

All in all, (and there is still plenty more left) "Drowned World Tour" is the definition of a concert that breaks boundaries both technically and artisically. It pushes the line so far back that many artists will have to sit back and think: How can I possibly top that? While it will be hard, it could also be impossible. Incredible in its vision and entertaining with its music, "Drowned World Tour" is a must-have and a must-see.

Summary: A Good Effort
Review: Unlike most of the other reviwers, I'm not a Madonna fan, although at times I do find her music and performances pleasing. I had the opportunity to see the live version, the HBO version, and the DVD version of the tour. One aspect of this tour that pops into my mind is how good Madonna sounds, especially for a singer that has a weak voice, which becomes even weaker live. The performance and set designs were very imaginitive and should be given credit to for trying to stay away from today's "Teen-pop" dance moves and style. At times I questioned Madonna's choices of the songs she performed but it seems like she wanted to focus more on her later music rather than her early hits. Although, this tour is not as good as some of her previous ones (like the Blond Ambition Tour) it was an entertaining show and worth purchasing the DVD/VHS.

Summary: MADONNA's Drowned World Tour most Successful Tour of 2001
Review: I saw the MADONNA Drowned World Tour 2001 on HBO in late August, and I was also lucky enough to see her show Live in Las Vegas on September 1st. I just have to say this is the most amazing show MADONNA has ever done. MADONNA does songs mostly from her last two albums. MADONNA does everything from play guitar to doing a Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon performance of her song Sky Fits Heaven. MADONNA plays electric guitar on Candy Perfume Girl, and plays acoustic guitar on songs like Secret, I Deserve It, and the classic La Isla Bonita. She also brings back one song she has performed on every tour the classic HOLIDAY. Her Dancers are amazing, and never before has MADONNA looked or acted like a True Rock star. Here is a list of the songs MADONNA performs on this DVD. Drowned World/Substitute For Love, Impressive Instant, Candy Perfume Girl, Beautiful Stranger, Ray Of Light, Frozen, Nobodys Perfect, Sky Fits Heaven, Mer Girl, I Deserve It, Don't Tell Me, Human Nature, The Funny Song, Secret, Gone, Human Nature, What It Feels Like For A Girl (in Spanish), La Isla Bonita, Holiday, Music. MADONNA once again pushes the limits of what a performer and a good show should be like, and once again she gives what could be just another concert a new life with a broadway show feel to it. Once you see this DVD you will see MADONNA is still on top of her game and way ahead of her time. If your looking for the MADONNA that was wild and about throwing sex in your face this is might not be for you. MADONNA continues to grow as an artist and a performer. MADONNA has a family now and this is the next chapter in MADONNA's life. Buy This DVD you will not regret it. MADONNA rocked my world and she sure wil rock yours! This DVD has pictures taken by her pal Rosie.
