Summary: I was there...
Review: October 22, 1978. I was just a dumb college freshman at UC Berkeley, and we decided to take BART over to the Cow Palace and see Neil Young. It turned out to be one of the most incredible concerts I ever saw. Little did I know it would be made into a movie, and now I have this little gem to constantly bring me back to that magical Sunday night 25 years ago. The sound at the show was incredible; I remember the guy next to me on the main floor breaking down and crying during Cortez the Killer, he loved it so much. Thank you for everything, Neil Young. You're the greatest.

Review: One of the most underated live bands in the history of Rock n Roll. I saw this tour live and it changed my life. Neil's guitar solos tell the story of his songs just like his lyrics do. LONG LIVE THE HORSE!!!

Review: Pretty good concert. If you're a fan, I recommend it. If you're not a die-hard fan though, you could probably skip it. For the record, however, the roadies are dressed as Jawas, not Tusken Raiders ...

Summary: Top Three All-time Concert Films
Review: Rust Never Sleeps ranks up there in the top three all-time concert films: Talking Heads "Stop Making Sense", "The Decline and Fall of Western Civilization", and "Rust Never Sleeps". The concert reinforces the reasons why "live music sounds better". The visual effects supplement the stunning lyrics and musicality of one of rocks greatest song writers. This is a must-see film for all rock fans.

Summary: Rock & Roll will never die
Review: Thanks to Neil Young and this great concert!Growing up I was never a big Neil Young fan. I was more into the "heavier" side of rock. BUT!...after viewing this concert and seeing Neil and Crazy Horse kickin' out the jams...I became a instant fan.This show has diversity!...It starts out "un-plugged"...then the giant Fender amps come out , along with Crazy Horse, and play some great music. It's billed as a "Concert Fantasy" and that is true. I also like the roadeyes (roadies) who run about durning the show. I've read that NY was the first to use wireless microphones...remember this was in 1978.I only wish the film quality was a little better. Sometimes it's a little grainy in spots like a old movie, but despite that it's a great rock and roll show.You can't go wrong with Rust Never Sleeps.Buy it!....buy it now!

Summary: My first concert ever
Review: The first concert I ever saw was this tour at the forum in LA. I was 14 and it changed my life forever. From that point on I knew what I was going to do. GO SEE MORE NEIL YOUNG CONCERTS! To have the first concert you ever seen made in to a movie is worth the 5 stars I am giving. Nevermind that the music is pure punk brillance with out the misguided angst that most punk rockers possess. You'll never hear guitars this grungy again. EVER! Neils guitar is like an atomic bomb. There is no sound bigger.

Summary: Don't Buy It
Review: The silly antics of the dancing Roadeyes, who are over this DVD, detract greatly from this concert's impact. Neil singing the first two songs from on top of the huge speaker also detracts. Frankly it's all "sophomoric" and not worthy of a great performer. The contrasty stage lighting and the almost complete lack of any crowd shots also detracts. For me, an excellent concert was ruined by all this stuff. I do not agree with the other reviews on this site (except for the two who also said the stage antics were silly). A lot of reviews say if you are a fan, you will love this. That is NOT the standard. If you are a fan, you'll love anything by a group. The standard is if you merely have an interest, you'll love it. There are many excellent concert DVDs (and VHS tapes) out there. Check out some of the "favorites lists" by other Amazon contributors (posted on amazon.com) for ideas and buy something else.

Summary: Great performances, poor concept
Review: The song performances are great. In Neil Young fashion, they include mistakes and all (ex- NY messes up the last part of the lyrics in acoustic My, My, Hey, Hey). My favorite parts were Powderfinger and Cinnamon Girl. Unfortunately, this video is the definition of pretentious. All the "Road-Eyes" and giant representation of stage gear is rediculous, and Young actually seems really serious about all of it. So, in conclusion, this is a great collection of songs and has great performances. Just make sure to keep your fast forward button handy. Or, alternately, you could buy the album Live Rust, which is the same concert on CD without all the crap.

Review: The video is fair with this old remaster of a classic concert, but the audio is great and that's all that really counts!
I first listened to this album in 1985. But haven't heardit it in years. I recently bought the DVD version and boy doe's it bring back memmories. This remastered DTS version is killer on my Klipsch surround. The remastered DTS 5.1 is refreshing.
Neil Young plays acoustic and electric which gives any listerner a wide range of Neil's music. From Sugar Mountain to Kortez this is a must for anyone who wants classic Neil Young at his BEST!!

Summary: Highly recommended, despite tampering
Review: There is little to add to the glowing reviews others have submitted. One VERY annoying bit though, the between-song footage has loud footsteps foley'd into the soundtrack, a minor but VERY annoying feature to an otherwise stellar release. I too have fond memories of the initial theatrical release, but IMHO, it has stood the test of time quite well.
